This is just too awesome! Like many others, I've dreamed of doing something like this. Congrats on a great find. I'll be following along as well!!!

Cool project, good luck with it, be sure to share pics of the restoration.

There is one similar to your project near me.. consider this inspiration !

This happens to be on Rt 66.

I know nothing more about it, as to who restored it, owns it, or what is purpose is, if it has any, other than static display, just thought Id share.

Thanks for the update, hope the house sells soon so you can dive in on this. Just realize, whatever time and costs you estimate, multiply by 2 and you may come close. Ask me how I know....or actually don't, it hurts too much to discuss.

Look forward to seeing the sign. "SHELL" I presume. ;-)

Keep up the good work and keep us posted , my brother worked [gas jockey]for a shell station in the early 60's....A & J Shell ............like most gas stations had an old wrecker, 1954 Ford with name on door and the owners "jalopy" stock car with his AJ Shell adverising on it, these would look way cool standing out there! Most stations [almost all as I remember] back then did tires, repair work ,Lubes etc........back when there was a whole middleclass of business owners....dry cleaners ,drug store, hardware store, diners, restaurants, jewelry, butcher, baker, fish store etc that what supported the towns and local Little leagues etc........most are all gone as the multinational chains are running the show sucking all that posterity out of the area.... Awesome save oilcaddy. In NE Indiana here. Just saw one on U.S. 6 get bulldozed in a little worse shape than this. Windows were gone and the cinder block had let loose over the windows. Every time I drove buy it I wanted to see it saved and made right like you are doing.

+1 on ya!!

You don't have to scrap the old windows, there's much atmosphere in old windows. For security, put bars in front of them if they are not sturdy enough as they are, or perhaps new matt window panes if you want to avoid people from looking in when you're away. For insulation, (I don't have a clue about the climate in Kentucky) put an extra window frame on the inside.

Just finished reading through. This is going to be fun to watch. I would love to have the opportunity to have an old service station also. There are a couple in my area, one a redemption center that still has the lift in place. the other is a dry cleaners and just closed a year or so ago. As stated earlier the taxes would be to much. Keep us updated. Wishing you luck on selling the rental.

Ryan.

Oilcaddy,

Just read through this thread...

Early in the thread Very Small Garage In Russia , Vieux (the OP) quoted a Russian saying: Eyes fear - Hands make

I thought that proverb applied to your project.

Good luck!

Busted_Knuckles,

I don't want to hijack the thread but...

Here's more info on that Texaco Station.

...and here.

Best regards,

Scott

Cool to seeing it being saved...my uncle owned the local Phillips 66 station when I was young, Brings back some fond memories, now they are all gone in my town, had to make way for all the convenience stores. I'm subscribed :)

While out looking at properties down near Magnolia and Buffalo today, my wife and I drove right past the building! Doesn't look like anything is going on there at the moment.
