THANKS! The '66 Ford trucks are my favorite older year but could just be dad bought one new. My '65 is really growing on me too.
I remember my Dad bringing home a slightly used 65' Ford wagon for my Mom in about 1968 -dark green, brown interior and the best part ... it was a "woodie". I'd love to have that car now!

I have to admit that there is very little in this world I hate more than a ford but I will say this is a cool project. I love the idea of shoving new technology in an old package. Keep up the good work ! :thumbup:

A few up and downs like any project but is quite enjoyable so far.
I found a little trick for locating them @ copart. As someone mentioned anyone can bid you just have to give them 10% of your bid amt to hold.

This link may or may not work. Just go to copart and type in F150 3.5L and it will bring up all in the good old US of A. Same with if you want a 5.0 just type
f150 5.0L. There are currently 14 EcoBoost trucks showing. You are basically bidding against other salvage yards. This particular truck was owned by Enterprise Rental/Lease Once a junk yard gets them the price skyrockets. It was the only way I could begin to afford this project is buy pretty much direct. As you will see its not easy to find a eco without major front or engine dmg. Especially @ a good price.

Was not happy with FoMoCO's paint job so re-painted them both.

Pics of new frame as picked up from dealer. I was very disappointed in how a new frame looks.

WOW, talk about a **** frame.


Hoping to start assembly of chassis this week.

1) Front Suspension Install

2) Engine and Trans Install

3) Assemble and Install the rear axle assy. (waiting on a pinion brg)

I need the chassis more as a roller to get cab in proper location. Once the cab is mounted to chassis things should start to fall into place. Trying to get all the electronics that are needed for proper veh operation into the confined space will be toughest part of project.

8500.00 For a stand alone harness is way out of my league not to mention another couple grand to get it all to work. I have no choice if I want this to get done in 2012 but to use all the '11 F150 electronics that are needed for proper operation.

It will all add a lot more weight than planned but if that is what gotta' be done. . . I started with a 300.00 Truck that was destined for the bone yard.

Also this week I need to teardown the '11 dash to see what it is going to take to get the electronics into the small area of '66 Cab.

Lets see a pic of the new ecoboost and the '69! Friend has a nice low mile 1970 Ranger with a Factory 390.

I had some left over PPG Concept so just went with that. The axle housing looks pretty decent too. Just got it down to bare metal then wiped it down with PPG Metal Conditioner and shot it. Very happy with results.

I was in process of setting up the 9 3/4" Rear axle when I realized I needed a special tool to set the pinion height. The tools for rear setup cost over 1000.00 less the pullers which I have. So for the first time in my life I enlisted a Dealer (Ford) to set up the pinion depth and backlash for me. Hopefully that will be done tomorrow (dropped it off late this afternoon)

Finally picked up the final parts to get rear axle installed into frame. Time to start swapping the entire driveline from original frame to the new one, finalize cab fitment and it will be all downhill from there . . . LOL! I always liked roller coaster rides and this one has been fun so far.

Hoping to make both with this truck next year. If all works out I would like to tow my 427 powered F100 with the Eco-Boost to both shows. Unless of course I could get a volunteer driver for one of them . . .

I had a 66 F-250 4X4 that I drove to highschool. My dad and brother lifted it with custom spring perches and custom made springs all around. I helped my dad rebuild the 352. It cleared 44" super swampers and I drove it everday, all day. Took it offroading several times. It had the 4 speed on the floor with the granny gear for first, made rush hour traffic a piece of cake. Custom power steering unit also so I could turn the steering wheel. I was 135lbs back then. That was in the mid 80's, people still remember that blue truck!
I remember that it could smoke those 44's like it was a 2wd truck. Nothing cooler than giant 4x4 tire burnout marks in the school parking lot.

Sorry, but I had to spend a few days in the "PoorHouse" after that last parts order!

I am also taking all part numbers, pricing etc so I have a record if anything else is needed. That way when truck is complete I will have it all cataloged exactly part# and $$ of every component and what it fits.

My Binder is now many HUNDRED pages. The plastic sleeves really help if my hands are a bit dirty I do not smudge the pages. I have done that on my last dozen vehicles or so and find it very helpful.

What yr, make, model Rear axle are you rebuilding?

Getting ready to upload a few pics so will post them in a bit.
Just about done with axle assy. Still need to add brake lines, rt rotor and caliper, vent hose. Sure glad I added the Traction Lok as will most likely need it especially when I add some boost to the turbo's.

These new ones are pretty involved and not so simple like the ford 9".

A few pics as promised, was just too tired last night to post them.

New housing getting it ready to assemble, pressing the bearings onto the new Traction Lok, A sneak peak at the new frame next to the old, torquing up the "PIN" after installing the axles.

To save weight over this M O N S T E R rear axle I could have used a 9" but then would have issue with ABS brakes, trailer sway control, stability control etc. At least I should not have to worry about breaking it.

A few shots of the binder I am putting together, Not to forget some Friction Modifier for the Traction Lok, Installing Backing plates, rear cover.

It was not too many years ago when vehicles had 9" shoes for braking and even much smaller, looks about the size on a Nissan or Toyota LOL. Now Ford is using it for Park Brakes on a F150! Probably easier not to forget to release the park brake because it holds so well the truck will not move .. . Self adjusting park brakes too! How cool is that.

Yup, I even took the ID tag from old axle and put it on the new. It gives a lot of important info with a bar code for scanning along with unit serial number, date codes, assembly plant and more. Call me a NUT Job for the detail work, just want the final product to look nice. Cannot believe (actually I can) it took an entire WEEK just on rear axle assy. At this rate it will be the summer of 2029 when I finish this thing.

How many can ID this part and know what it does? (mounted to upper bolt on the caliper)

Just put those thinking caps on, even make it a funny one what this thing does.
Sure looks silly sitting there. HINT: it has a little rubber cap with a torx inside & is made in Sweden.

So is this an OK number of pictures? Too many, not enough, just right? Too much detail? Figured as long as it was over a week since I posted pics should probably show what was accomplished although it does not seem like much.
