So what's this fuel economy test you speak of? I have 2000 Powerstroke...the best I get is about 18.4 at 70 mph. I'm looking for more.
Ford VCM/VMM scan tools hooked to a laptop.
What gear ratio do you have and is it a 4x4?
Local driving I just checked today and with a pretty heavy foot got 16.97mpg on last tank. If I drive it "nice" in local driving will get close to 20mpg.
Highway speeds 80-85mph get right @ 18mpg
As soon as I slow it down under 70mph the mileage really goes up.
70mph will get me 21~22mpg
If I slow it down to 60mph I will get 24+ My best tank ever was between 50 and up to 60mph without going over 60 for entire tank That was 24.78MPG of course the only time I ever tried.
Using the laptop with Ford's MPG meter I was seeing 27+ @ 50mph That was actually hard to believe as have never driven a tank driving that slow but some day would like to try it. I do know if I keep the rpm under 2000 at any time during tank it will help a lot. I just do not have the patience for normal driving to do it for an entire tank.
The 24.78mpg was before mods but with tuner. Now I find if I drive it super nice I get quite a bit better mileage than stock but with a little heavier foot get worse than stock.
I would like to add a gear vendors OD and am sure that would really help especially with speeds over 70mph.
