So I've been a fan of the Ford 427 ever since buying a 61 Unibody with one in it for a power plant..
Have kicked myself many times over for selling that one, and for many years have been living vicariously through Randy as he worked on his 427 shortbed 66 Ranger. I must admit that when he pulled his 427 engine out for the last time, I shed a tear. But I understand, getting single digit MPG's takes the fun out of anything real quick.. Fast forward to this past weekend and here I was in the Phoenix area. Had to stop and finally meet Randy in person, get the shop tour, and check out all his builds... We were checking out the shortbed (Raptor) build and he suggested we go for a ride. Even as much as I like the 427 and wish it was still under the hood, his present drivetrain has made a believer out of me. It is just plain NASTY compared to the 427. Add to that mid 20 MPG's and you have the best of both worlds..
Randy, thanks for your hospitality, awesome to final meet in person. Well done on the Ranger, basically a brand new truck, a wolf in sheep's clothing.. The details are amazing..
