Anyone have a place to buy online? Seems most want to sell rolls. I need maybe 50-60ft. Haven't measured yet.

the price of buying by the foot will cost as much or more than a 100ft roll. the big box stores sell 25ft, 50ft, 100ft, and 250ft rolls.

Let's clarify. Do you really mean 2/3, or do you need 12/3 ???

12/3, just buy a roll. Less than 100' the per foot cost is outrageous.
If you do mean 2/3, try a real electrical supply house.

I really do mean #2/3. It's for a 100A feed to a garage sub panel from a 200A main house panel. Supply houses want to sell a full roll which is usually around 125ft. I don't want to spend $800 on a roll that I probably need less than half of.

A supply house that will only sell full rolls of 2/3?? Wow. I can imagine how accommodating they are on everything else. They'd be out of business in a heartbeat around here.

Personally, I'd use AL #2SER and a 100A breaker (or 90A).

Actually, 2/3 NM is carried at HD. my guess is that is or close to the max size of non-metallic sheathed cable though.

I was thinking 2 conductor, it comes up to #6. I see 3 conductor does go up to #2. Never used it so was not really aware NM came that large.

That's pretty cool, Learn something new every day.

Way OT but I'm still blown away by the 0000/4 (yes that's four strands of 4/0) flexible "cord" we have at work. They use it for feeders for big portable A/C units and power distribution panels.

That sounds like the plan. My buddy that's an electrician suggested the same thing.

For your use #2 Al SER as a branch feed is to be overcurrent protected at no more than 90 amps @ 75C. I saw that Speedy said 100A breaker but that is only when the feeder is use as a service feed supplying the total load to a dwelling. Also if the #2 Al SER is run within insulation for a certain distance the amps drop to 75A @ 60C.

I know you keep saying 100A, but if you are willing to limit your current to 60A you could use 2-2-2-4 MHF cable and save a lot of money !

You can still use a 100A sub-panel, you just have to feed it with a 60A breaker from your main.

I don't want to save money....I want to make sure I have enough juice to run my equipment. I have a Powermax 85 CNC table and a Syncrowave 250 I need to run, on top of a 15hp RPC for my 3 phase stuff, not to mention the compressor and all the other small **** I have. Plus, I want to make sure I have space to add a CNC mill.

Why do you keep saying #2 Al has to be breakered @ 60A? #2 Al is 75A @ 60C or 90A @ 75C.
