Our houses are close enough to the same age. I wholeheartedly get what you are say about old homes and insulation. The house is 110 years old and has many insulation flaws including the foundation to main floor interface. The floor framing was built on top of the foundation and then they continued to fill the floor joists level to the subfloor with rocks and mortar. Unfortunately, much of that will be inaccesible or just impossible to improve.
There are some definite "heat blooms" around the foundation which can be easily identified with locations where the steam pipes are practically in contact with the foundation. I'll be able to fix some of these. Others, not so much where the access is pretty tight. It's just going to be good to be able to see where the biggest heat losses are, and to see the differences I'm able to make.
Obviously I won't be able to get the insulation anywhere close to modern standards. But any improvement will make a difference and this device will help identify where I can make the biggest difference!
Thanks. I was just about to ask him why all the deletes.I hope something or someone didn't drive slimpickins away from GJ??? It looks like he deleted a bunch of his posts.
