I'm going to have to come back and study your thread much closer, in regards to the woodworking projects........ I like what I've seen so far.

But I have to fess up..... On somebodies thread you posted your to-do list. And I thought it was so good I wrote it up onto my whiteboard, and posted that onto my thread, which went berserk..... (Well to 5 or 6 people anyway).

Wherever possible I always attributed it to you.

So thanks for posting that, and keep updating us on the woodwork projects. You are inspiring me, as it's an area I'm learning about as quick as I can.

1/2 cup, thanks for stopping by! My last op went very well so I'm hoping for the best on this one too!

I've been working my way through your Shed Downunder thread with great interest. Whew, its one of the longer threads here and it's going to take a few days to go through. I hope I'll have time during my recovery to finish reading it.

I am humbled, I trust you are enjoying the journey...

SP: if you have the time and have lots of pictures of your wall/gate build i for one would LOVE to see them. sorry i haven't been on your thread before, but it looks like you haven't been on it much either.

thanks for the post and the KUDOS and RAZZING on the ORGANIZING 201 thread that i hope will have a lot of ideas to help cure us of FSD (FLAT SPACE DISEASE) and RTI (ROUND TO IT THOUGHTS).

which part of CANADA do you have that great looking place you call home?

cheers and it's usually my frozen glass mug of green ice tea

SP: you'll get RIT soon as you can and that's soon enough. might i suggest you just put your wall/gate build in this thread to make it more interesting for others to read. you certainly can start your own thread, but i've started enough threads to know that about the time you've got all the information in the thread maybe members will start posting then. until that time is feels like you are talking to yourself most of the time.

as you know i'm on a lot of threads so if you post up your wall build and i miss it and don't post please post on one of my threads or PM me to let me know because i really do like the build it right the first time attitude and style you built yours.

also my (our) weight loss thread is more like a GET HEALTHY thread so if you are not feeling 100% or want to lose a few pounds or just find out what others are doing to stay or get fit please stop in there and infuse it with your wisdom and sense of humor.

i reposted your TO DO list and a few other members actually put it up on their white boards. it was hilarious, but maybe the cause of part of your RIT.

cheers

It's your thread - go with it where you will (someone told me that when I started my thread). We are all along for the ride.

You must have known you were alive after doing that wall...... :eyecrazy: I know it was a while ago, but you must be very proud every single time you drive through there.

SP, type away. We are all here waiting.
BTW, do your physio!, My little brother was a mechanic and a gearbox fell on his shoulder. The insurance company left it for 9 months arguing that he did not need the surgery. Needless to say he had to change vocations. But since getting some small physio instructions he is in a lot less pain and has got about 25% use now.
SO, get on with it.

SP: i love all the gate pictures and if you have more please post them. i also was wondering if you cut slivers of the blocks so the curves would match better at the joints or did you just move them a little?

i'm sure i've got lots more questions because i really LOVE your gate and would like to find a property some day where i can build one similar. WELL DONE!!

also your vise and other pictures in the last few posts didn't show up so maybe you can try to edit those posts if you have time.

just reading a bit, but mostly skimming sounds like you just had surgery. was that for rotator cuff on one or both shoulders you hurt doing the wall.

just an FYI i had rotator cuff surgery in November 2003 by the Seattle Mariner's Dr. a friend of mine referred me to because his son was one of the best pitchers in the area and needed Tommy John surgery. anyway i didn't do a thing for 6 weeks and then went to the Mariners trainer for the players that were recovering from injuries and he had me starting to work with 1 and 2 pound weights to get my shoulder good enough to go back on the golf long drive tour for 2004. i was hitting golf balls one handed almost all the time after surgery and on Feb. 21st of 2004 i was given the ok by the Dr. to swing with both hands. April 3rd, 2004 i hit a drive 386 yards in Dallas to lose the yearly qualifying school by a yard, but still got me exempt for the tour in 2004 and the world long drive event that year. what i'm trying to say is without sounding like i'm bragging is don't rush the recovery because to this day my left shoulder doesn't hurt and it hurt for 25 to 30 years a lot before i had the surgery.

good luck and PM me or just ask questions on your own thread here if you'd like to.

cheers and again nice looking gate and block fence.

Slim: i still don't see any pictures of your vise (vice) that you mentioned or some of the pictures that you mention in your last few posts.

i remember working out harder with rubber bands and dumbbells 1-10 pounds than i ever worked out with my dumbbell set that went up to 150 pounds while i was trying to get in shape after my rotator cuff surgery. best of luck with that and hope you get it (them) stronger than before you hurt them. good luck

how deep did you say you put in the foundation for the brick wall for your cement blocks and the posts for your gate? i think i read 10 feet and guessing you might have meant 10 inches or i read it wrong. i've put in several of those sort of block walls around my house and most of them i put a 6 inch thick 12 inch wide cement poured footing under them and they've stayed where i put them and are still level after about 20 years now. i didn't go as high as you did and most of mine are 3 to 5 foot tall, but i love those 80 pound blocks and mine were a different brand called Keystone if i recall correctly and they had pins that i set in their tops to place the next rows on that really kept them in place.

cheers and hope you are having a great weekend.

BTW you were up some long hours yesterday so are you normally up at 3am?

SP: pictures look AWESOME. i love those old vises as you might know and not sure how RAE started, but they are as stout as any. nice work on the 45 degree angle so you didn't have to cut up your bench.

i'll take a closer look at your pictures later, but have to run now.

WELL DONE and really nice that you built the fence and gate the RIGHT WAY the first time and yes it shows and probably makes you smile every time you drive through it or see it. sorry to hear the shoulder isn't feeling so hot, but it WILL get better and just take it slow and steady and you'll be as good as you can be soon.

cheers
