Slim, here's another thread that I've visited several times and yet I've never made a post here. I am truly slipping severely here on the GJ. Good thing Microsoft doesn't make cars! If they did, when something went wrong you'd just have to stop on the side of the road, roll up all your windows, shut the engine off, wait thirty seconds and then you'd be good to go!

It's coming to that Slim. The reboot is all done from an offsite location. We plug 'em in and the "big boys" take it from there.

Not that it matters, but an ironic thing ( I meant idiotic thing) I like to share. Back in the eighties, I went on to major in computer science and after a few semesters decided that computers weren't going anywhere. Dropped out and never looked back. Somedays I wonder if I may have been hasty in my choice.

SLIM: nice work on the door awning, but BEE CAREFUL since it's not attached. i had a widow tell me she lost her husband cause he was replacing a post on his porch not much bigger than that and it fell on him and killed him. even a cheap tarp stapled to it might work until you can make something a little more permanent in the spring/summer.

wow your own server at your home. pretty common in my neck of the woods as you might figure with Microsoft, Google, Amazon and few other big companies based here. still I don't own one and some of the stuff you mentioned i thought you were speaking Chinese. i'm more like Andy cause when in doubt i re boot too.

i love shelving (more flat surfaces) and that stuff looks pretty stout. once it's up and in place it lasts for years.

it's a bit cool here today and temps in the teens right now and not Celsius teens. speaking of axing your ice to get your door open i had my gate frozen shut at my shop so if it hadn't got just a tad warmer yesterday afternoon i would have had to find my Mapp gas and fired it up to put a little heat on the ice.

keep up the great progress and post when you can cause i always like reading your comments here on your thread and of course on the other threads to give those a little more SP flavor.

Don't sell OSB short. I put this on in 1985 to cover the chicken wire while I stored my stuff there for a few months. No coating of any kind. Faces south. Looks pretty good for 31 years.

Slim, you are truly funny. But there seems to be a little truth in what you are saying. We are in our tee shirts when it hits 40*F here in the winter while friends, visiting from a few states down, are accusing us of pulling their legs that we think it's nice out.

With the ice storm threatening we had a news man out shooting everything with a remote temperature gun. He shot the ground, 34F then his wind shield 31F. Made the comment "wind shield is colder than the ground or air" and the way he said it, it sounded like "wind chill". We had fun with that.

hope you are keeping a bit warm and learned another thing i might or hopefully won't ever need to use it nitrogen in my tires. i also saw Denwood's plug in on the front of his Honda Crv to heat up the engine block cause it's so damn cold where you are.

i guess you get used to it like we get used to the rain here or do you?

i stop in and welcome new members as often as i can and i just found one from your part of the world that looks like a pretty handy carpenter. he also has a youtube channel and he made a video of his 20x30 garage and how he set it up and why. i'm more of a fan of vintage stuff, but really liked how he had a reason for almost everything and a few tricks i hadn't seen before. he might be a neighbor and he might live 1,000 miles from you, but here's the link to his garage gallery thread and he's got the youtube video in his first post.

Slim: i'm having some issues today too with GJ and mostly about connection and not being timed out. just wanted to try and help before you write up another long post and get TIMED OUT. Andy had the same issue a month or so ago and i did years ago and I think you can solve this by checking the box next to where you log in.

do you log in every time or just have it set up easy like i do so all i have to do is click on my Garage Journal in my favorite links bar? when i click on GJ it takes me right to the forum so i can click into any section. i also have the most recent posts in all the sections threads show up on top and when i click on a thread i get the latest posts first so i can just read back a few post or a few pages like 1/2's and Andy's threads even if i've only missed 1/2 a day.

cheers and maybe that new member is a neighbor and from the video he seemed like he knows his way around a shop and seemed like a good guy too.
