Ruski: looks like you've got a cool avatar. you also made your first post on SLIM'S thread so you picked a good thread, but i'd wager that you meant to say a bit more or are you just a man of few or no words?

welcome to the forum.

Slim: it's about time you raised your head after giving me a little hard time for staying off GJ for a month or two last summer.

even if you can only post a picture of your cats, a pretty sunset or the first snow we'd all like to see you post something and for sure we'd like to see you post on other threads too.

speaking of that your poem you posted on Andy's thread will hopefully help him through this very hard time.

see you soon again and stay warm!!!

Slim: thanks for the smoke signal, but I think maybe you were trying to post up a picture and it didn't load up. try again or just post up a few good words and even cat pics are ok.

hope all this Corona stuff hasn't hit your part of the world and maybe the cold weather is a blessing to keep tourists or travelers from stopping by.

take care.

NOPE I still can't see a pic on either of your newer posts? maybe cause i'm using Google Chrome? I usually don't have any issues so are you downloading the pic from your cell or laptop or maybe you forgot to hit the download button since it's been a while since you posted?

cheers

Slim: I still don't see any pics, but maybe you are still working on it. I download pics from my laptop using the paperclip sort of like we used to attach pics to emails and it seems to work ok for me.

of course my method might bore some of you techies to death cause I don't like paying for CLOUD (i'm sort of cheap) so I download pics off my cell to my laptop and then delete them from my cell.

good luck!!

Slim: as far as i can tell all your pictures are missing until you get back to the beginning of the thread and post #25 has a few pictures. SO you might want to PM HotFr8 or another mod if you can't figure it out.

i'm sorry I can't help you cause I don't post pictures like you do and i've never started a GJ album of pictures.

good luck and great sort of chatting with you. I bought some Corona (beer) in case you need some to get your immune systems charged up come on down.

Cheers

Slim: I went back thru about 100 posts again and ZERO PICTURES on your posts.

while you are working out why and whether it's GJ's issue or on your end maybe try using the paperclip and attach a picture or two that show up as thumbnails for members only and with 2 mouse clicks we can see them full size.

GOOD LUCK!!

Slim: most of the DIY projects we do around our garages/homes are in my opinion more valuable than all the car stuff so post up whatever you want to. we all miss your humor and good words so even if you don't have things to add to this thread or lacking time to do so please stop by our threads and lend a good word, some humor or your wisdom when you can.

welcome back!!

the green pipes in the foreground are for the steam heating system.
Slim, my brand new childhood home, built in 1952, had steam heating. I was seven and thought the house was going to collapse because of all the loud banging from the system. It took months to fix the problem caused by a faulty "automatic" air bleed valve. Dad bought one new valve and swapped it into one radiator at a time until the banging went away. I see your steam pipes are missing their asbestos pipe wrap. If you didn't remove them, did the previous owner rip them out and save them in a basement closet?

I just found your thread the other day and have been slowly reading through it. It's very interesting! I like to see the various projects. And I like seeing what you are doing with the old house! I have a bit of a soft spot for old buildings. Do you have some pics of the outside??

hopefully i'll still be above dirt when you have time to post up a few posts each day and inject a bit of humor into my (our) lives, but I (we) understand life and projects can command a lot of time so keep up the good work.

here's to a great holiday season for you and your family and STAY WARM!!

Hey Slim, where did the second gauge come from?
There wasn't one shown in the first pic.
I'm glad it was you doing the work and not me.
The boiler in my fist house blew the first nite. I replaced it with a gas furnace.

If I ever built a new home or had my choice of heating systems steam heat was always at the top of my list. I was always impressed when previewing homes for sale when I was selling them with these.

Also my parents home built in 1928 has an oil burner with steam/hot water heating system and it’s in the basement with radiators on the top two floors. It seems like it keeps their home nice and warm too.
