I have an Ingersoll-Rand 2340L5-V compressor that was given to me by a friend/former boss because he got angry at the crew who destroyed it every time he saw it in his shop, and have finally gotten around to tearing it down to see what it needs...
Turns out I need a complete rebuild kit, to include pistons/rods/rings and all the gaskets/finger valves/o-rings - and it runs off a WEG 200V 3PH 5HP motor.
I plan to put in new internals - except crankshaft and crank bearings - and run a drill-powered home down both cylinders prior to assembly...
SO, I was hoping for about three answers:
1) what are the torque specs for re-assembly?
2) what are the specs for breaking in new rings?
3) what’s the most cost-effective way to power? Not at all familiar w/phase converters, so don’t know if it’s cheaper to buy a 5HP, single-phase, 3450RPM compressor motor from someplace like Surplus Supply - or use a phase converter to use the WEG 200V 3PH listed above?
I want to start this rebuild w/my grandson next weekend, so any help - even if just links to other stories/sites/etc. - would be appreciated!!
