The reason the stock cord end was made the way it was is because it doesn't matter which way it's plugged in.
It's not really applicable to a DIY guy, but the UL Listing is void unless you replace the entire cord with an OEM replacement cord OR put the UL equivalent to the OEM cord end on the existing cord. All the licensed electricians I know will not replace damaged cord ends with big box repair ends like shown in the video for that reason.
