So I had to call and find out the story.

It's a customer return.

The claim is that either the pump or motor failed.

Store has no way to test, so they don't know.

Couldn't be very old to be returned under TSC returns.

I notice the motor has a red reset button, so maybe that just needed to be pushed. Weird to have on a 5HP motor.

It is an :Assembled in USA" machine.

$1,099 retail($999 on sale). 80 gal tank.

Even if the pump is bad, the tank and motor are worth it.

If the motor is bad instead, even more so.

Here's the number if anyone wants to call:

(405) 478-0333

Someone please go get it and report back.

Bill

I would think either way if something is broken (assuming the guy just wasn't incompetent wiring) it would be covered under the 1yr warranty with IR...

LOL
maybe you are silly. who cares tho? LOL

anxious to see what the issue is
Me too. Nothing visibly wrong.

We will get home late, and I have to work tomorrow. Going to drive the car to work, and unload it tomorrow evening. Hope to get wired Saturday.

Used, very used, compressors of this size sell for $500 to $800 on CL in this area.

Check to make sure the first guy put oil in the pump.

Turn the pump & motor by hand before powering on.

Check the belt tension too, maybe it was too loose from the factory?

Well, there will be a short delay in the telling of this story. It is off my truck and sitting in a warehouse a few miles away. My BIL manages the local branch of a company that uses material handling equipment. We used the forklift to get the compressor out of the bed of my truck, but there wasn't an available driver with a CDL to drive the truck with a liftgate to my house. That will happen Monday.

When I was younger I would've just manhandled that thing out of my truck. But it is 600 pounds, and I appreciate my back more now.

I hope you had them hold it for you!!!

Bill

They never asked my name or where I was from. I had called and reserved it, telling them my name. Then you called and told them about a guy from Wichita who was coming to get it. Nope. They never confirmed anything. They seemed happy that somebody was taking it off their hands.

There's oil visible in the sightglass. I haven't taken the guard off to check tension or if things turn. But aside from a fine layer of dust and shop grease, the unit seems to have seen very little use.

I questioned the staff at TSC, and the consensus there is that the buyer didn't know how to wire it up.

We will see.

RTZ: I haven't thanked you yet, but thank you for posting this.

:bowdown:That is great, you got a new compressor and a memory of your road trip with your daughter. You both will remember this forever and she will tell her kids about this momentous journey. Good on ya:thumbup:

Ok, everyone's interest in this has me laughing. Seriously?

This isn't the great deal I'd hoped. There's a small, light grinding noise as the motor is turned by hand. Over the weekend I prepared the garage for the compressor, so today after work I wired it up with 8/2 wire. The 40 amp breaker in the sub panel trips immediately.

I will take the electric motor to be fixed. I think everyone knows how expensive that can be.

Exactly! Thanks for the kind words. Life is more than acquiring things.

Shouldn't it be covered by IR's 1-yr warranty?

How can a compressor sold as is no warranty be warrantied?

Pull the end off & fix whatever has come apart in the centrifugal starter.

The store sold it "as-is", as in they don't want a return and the condition is unknown... Contacting IR you only have to prove your date of purchase...

It wouldn't hurt to take a look at the centrifugal starter like you said, it's not uncommon for them to get futzed up.
