Everyone is just guessing until the OP posts a pic of the motor nameplate.
^^That's a genius idea, I didn't even think of that one!
Once I get my own three phase air compressor, I'm just going to run an extension cord from my neighbors house to get the 3'rd phase!![]()

in case you didnt notice, this is a joke post based on a previous ridiculous thread.
I assume the 200 hp might be the shock point. I have worked with some 200 hp motors and they are 3000 pounds. I assumed there was a little bit of a typo. Maybe he meant 20 hp.
I have a 3P 20 hp Motor that I can start on 40A 1P that powers a RPC. I believe that motor is 190ish pounds.
The motor nameplate states 48 A. It is a little confusing single-phase 120, single-phase 240 and three-phase 230, three-phase 460, three-phase 575–600. And sure, at one point I think you told me I couldn’t run a particular pedestal grinder that was 600 V in my home garage shop. It’s been up and running a long time.
I assumed the typo of 20 hp. I further assumed this by a 200 horse power motor would be absolutely ridiculous 3000lbs. and furthermore based off his 60 amp question on hook up. Furthermore, at 200 horse power motor would shadow a 60 gallon air tank. A 200 hp motor would have a name plate of close to 500 A at 230 V and 250 A at 430 V. To start a 200 hp motor from single phase 240 V it would require almost 1000A for about 30 seconds. No Single phase breaker would hold this. This is why I assumed the typo.
Edit; my last post was to encourage seeking expert help and/or to flip the motor and buy a plug and play. At no time was I intending a potshot post.
Plan is to mount a 3 phase motor on the mill table and run it to act as a stabilizing gyroscope during the move. I assume I will need to buy a VFD to power up the motor? I could then later use the VFD/motor combo on something else like a powered bicycle or something.
Would a 1725 rpm motor or a 3450 rpm motor be better for this application? I assume the faster motor due to the gyro effect.

A green powered option is what is required. Bicycling is good for your health and assists with developing a good stroke. A good stroke is essential in compressing air. See pics for application.
That's the high-speed two-stroke model, produces 12VDC and compressed air at the same time. You can tell it's the high-speed model by the cooling fan on the alternator.
You know, I DID pass a stream with a water wheel this weekend.....

I got this 400hp DC motor from the scap bin at work. How many 9v batteries will I need to run this? I want to use it in my swamp cooler.

120v or 240v?well as long as were going off topic.........this was 1983, Michigan Bell bldg. downtown Detroit, this fan had a 200hp motor on it and it was such a pia to get it installed where it had to go, we were all joking that we hope that we never had to change that motor.
It ran 15 minutes and burned up.....really
120v or 240v?
prolly didn't have enough extension cords running to it
LOL. I started this thread and enjoy that it is still going.
How did that other guy ever end up?

no need to waste your money on a VFD. just plug the motor into three different sockets...viola! 3 phase power.
if you need to adjust speed, just kink one of the cords
I think you can reverse the rotation if you fold the cords in half.

I think you can reverse the rotation if you fold the cords in half.
Only if you fold them counterclockwise; clockwise doubles the speed.
You can always wrap a section of the extension cord with tin foil. Then by sliding the tin foil up or down the extension cord you find the sweet spot of how much current you actually need.![]()

Is this motor a 3 face like some I see for sale on CL?
I think hes hiding in the corner with his tail between his legs.
Either that or hes sitting in the dark because the poco cut his service drop after he tried to start his 200HP motor on a 100a service.![]()

Heck, just build a small nuke power plant.

Been reading this thread and enjoying it, but after looking I still haven't found the previous thread mentioned. Did it get deleted?lol all joking aside
If i hadnt seen the previous ridiculous thread pertaining to this subject i would think this was either spam or a troll post.

You guys don’t change the topic. This isn’t about fishing! The stories you could tell on that thread!![]()

Ah, I saw that thread, didn't realize that was it. I hadn't read it. I did now!how quickly we forget

It is still on the first page of posts here. It was responded to yesterday(5-17)
