You're lucky, 10/12 split is shut down, lower 49 and 55 shut down, it's freaking nasty out there and actually colder now than at 8 this morning. Steady sleet since before dawn, snow didn't stick, but when does it ever around here...

Got to my first sale of the year and struck out.

I bought a few tools off a guy in Garden City and also a Kennedy box via CL but it's been so damned cold,coupled with busy at work I do not have any pics to share,yet.
I also still have those SO brake tools and for Rickster I still have the 19MM SO wrench.I drag the stuff in my lunchbox everyday.
FINALLY my first garage sale/pawn shop/Craigslist scores of 2014!
Wednesday I stopped at some pawn shops and found a decent P&C adjustable wrench. Went up to the front to pay for it and the guy had a rusty box of tools there. He told me $10 for the whole box, I took a quick look and saw a Snap-On large wrench and a Craftsman ratchet without even digging, sold! Along with a few other tools I paid $17.50 total. I am still sorting it out, lots of junk but bit of Snap-ON, Craftsman, Mac and other tools. Lots of cleaning to do as well! It will be a while before I get pics up.
Today I decided to hit a few estate and garage sales. First one was a real bummer, drove 30 miles to a "backyard and barn sale" and there was no one there except for a big dog inside the fence and a locked gate. Grrrr!
2nd stop was an estate sale that started yesterday so I figured it was already picked over but stopped anyways and was glad I did! Vintage Craftsman vise, no name hatchet, working Wagner heat gun, small grease gun, Craftsman Accu-Cut snips, Dunlap hand saw, 2 Auto monkey wrenches, old adjustable caliper, funky aluminum Gilchrist pliers, Snap-On blue P2 screwdriver, 2 Dayton USA nutdrivers, 3 Craftsman screw/Torx drivers, Bonney screwdriver and a Millers Falls scribe. Total was only $12!
Next stop was a garage/moving sale and had to look a bit to find any goodies. The young lady dug a few more out for me. Vintage Sears empty shotgun shell box, 3 Craftsman screwdrivers, 3/8" =V= breaker bar, 1980's level. 3 NOS in the paper El Karubah (local Shriners chapter) license plates, another Snap-On blue P2 screwdriver, working Maglite, unbranded dial caliper, 2 Kobalt flex 3/8 ratchets and a roto Kobalt 1/4 ratchet, working meter and a couple of china needle nose pliers $25 total.
Last stop was a estate sale close to my house but had not opened until 9 AM.
Small wall tool holder, my first Duplex toolbox (I like the small cantilever tray instead of a pull out tray), box of Brillo pads, Rocket A13 hammer, 8 oz unmarked ball peen (not pictured) Coca Cola nail pouch, Heller Brothers Masterench, Proto thin open end wrinch, wire brushes, Boker linesmans pliers, unknown small pliers, big chisel, OTC 1001-L puller. some Craftsman, Fleet, Husky, Proto Challenger and Thorsen USA sockets and a Plomb 1/4" sliding bar (not pictured). $20 total.

I don't think so, ad mentioned tools which evidently meant three wrenches. Figured it couldn't hurt since it was close.
The weather needs to knock it off.
I also still have those SO brake tools and for Rickster I still have the 19MM SO wrench.I drag the stuff in my lunchbox everyday.
I haven't been out that way in quite a while, still on my list though.

I hit 2 sales today. The first was a massive tool sale but, as i figured correctly from the pictures, mimicked a Harbor Freight Parking Lot sale with lots of junk.
This is the good stuff i was able to walk out with. Most was brand new but i did find that one really old box full of greasy tools that nobody wanted to look into. Thats were i found the Snap on/Cornwell swivel sockets and the P&C wrench.
The huge Channellocks are going to work with me. The smaller ones are USA but have no maker mark. Any ideas?

The second stop of the day was quite a distance from home but i had nothing else to do so off i went. The ad showed lots of machine tools so i was hoping there was something left behind.
This was all i could grab for 40.00
2 Columbian 43 ½ bench vises. One needs some work so it might become parts.

Unmarked Plomb ½" drive ratchet
Huge P&C DBE wrench, marked WF-89 Its an 1 ½" x 1 7/16" I didn't know P&C were marked WF. I know Plomb did some unique markings on tools, i regards to rules/consistency, but this is a new one on me.

Agree w/ Jeff Channellock on those. did you know CL trademarked that shade of blue as "Channellock Blue"?
BC P&C was bought by Plvmb in 1941 and they continued the name for a while. Since they had a contract, I'm sure WF didn't care if it was marked P&C, Plvmb or not at all...

I got up early to hit the garage sale rescheduled from yesterday on the way to a big auction. The sale was still not open so after wasting some time circling the block waiting, we headed on over to preview the auction. There was some tools but a lot of vintage furniture and household ****. We got there about 4 mins early so we got to look over everything real good, unfortunately, 20 mins after the auction was supposed to start, they postponed it due to there being less than 10 bidders standing around...Another wasted hour... :X
This was at the auction, I may go back when they reschedule but there was a lot of **** between the few items I'm interested in so we'll see...
Baldor sander and buffer, and a forge blower in disassembled unknown condition, anyone recognize it or know value? There was a name plate on it but only the rivets remained.
There was also a tilting Wilton drill press vise.
and a 3" bullet with Craftsman motor lot
Other than that, there were a couple antique desk fans I was interested in but that was about all there. We leave pissed off from the rescheduling and stop back by the garage sale I hit yesterday and picked up these sewing table drawers and a NOS SO ignition file for $15.

That almost looks like a Bader knifemakers belt grinder.
Definately worth going back just on it let alone on the Baldor buffer.
Just in case you do end up with them and I don't care what you give for them ,,,,

Edit : looking closer , I at first thought the grinder was 2x72 belt. Doesn't apper to be. Regardless , worth adding to the tool arsenal.

Nice estate sale with a messy garage this morning.... just the kind I like. Most of the tools were not there so hopefully the family members were able to put them to good use. I managed to pick up a set of Starrett mics and three Jacobs drill press chucks, along with some telescoping gauges and some crimpers.

I think it is a knifemakers belt grinder on the account that there were about 5 boxes FULL of roughed out blades. The top roller was flipped to the left but did rotate back above the bottom roller when I tried. The rollers are 2" wide, idk how long the belt would be though. Apparently a hobby knife maker, there was boxes of thick cowhide leather and some wood blanks for handles. Put that with the forge blower and buffer and you got a knife shop

One estate sale today about 15 miles away. This was second day of sale and it was scheduled to close in 2 more hours. Everything was 50% off. Not sure how that would apply since everything I purchased was unmarked.
Sale was almost over but there must have been 20 people in the basement despite the snow. Interestingly most were women. I had to wait 5 minutes while one was in front of tool bench looking at each and every baby jar of nick nacks. Turned away for a minute and lady left and new one took her spot. I lost my patience and started to reach over her after another minute. She soon left with a free jars if pebbles. Odd

Those brass parts are Western Electric style 1/4" plugs. Originally used for telephone switchboards, still used for audio patch panels.

Padlocks are nothing special. One is master and other is from Hong Kong.

I think it follows something like this; price = ((interest generated *(1/pathetic look factor of interested party))-time passed during sale)/storage volume required for item in question What are the dimensions of that copper plate? That one hinged hook tool looks like a flywheel holder.

Plate is 6x6 and 1/2" thick.
hinged tool has the following cast into handle "MALLEALE IRON NO. 3003 CHICAGO SPECIALITY MFG CO" on back is stamped Taiwan
Did a google search and it took me right back to GJ! Found onf on ebay listed as a spanner wrench for strainer lock nuts.

If the top wheel does extend back beyond where it now sits after its been lined up with the lower wheel , it should take a 72" belt. 48" at the least.
Any of the 2"x belt grinders , Bader , Wilton , ******** , and gawd knows Burr-King are NOT cheap. New any would be at LEAST $1600 more like closer to 2.
Keep an eye on that if you go back !

First stop was a regular, but his son was doing the selling and the prices were silly money... so I left empty handed...
Second stop was also a regular, (and I see him out as a competitor regularly also, so we have a "nodding" acquaintance. (has to be nodding, he speaks hardly any English... probably in his 70's or so.)
Matrix Eng. Co. pivoting Vise, similar to one model of Panavise, but I think better made. Sold cast iron base, and should clean up nice... I suspect my kids (Model and Jewelry making) and maybe SWMBO may get more use out of it that I do...
2 Bent Nose Needle nose pliers (Channellock and Diamalloy), Blue Point Hack saw, Craftsman RHFT 3/8 rat, and a C. S. Osborne riveting hammer. the hammer is very round on the end and has a brass ferrule adn soemthing broken off inside. anyone know what went in there? a spike or a tack lifter/claw? Probably the latter...

This 3/4" is 12-1/2! Late war and made by once of the companies Plvmb/proto bought during and after the war years?

I have some questions about the items in the last two pictures. Do they belong together? The paint looks the same. Both the square and the angle finder? protractor? work with the rule. The square and the other part were seperate at the sale, but I believe they belong together.
Also, what can you tell me about the vise? It's a bit stiff, and I can't open it all the way to remove the bolt at the rear that was used to secure it to the work bench. I'll be giving it a cleaning and some penetrating oil in the next few days, then I expect I can remove that and get some better pictures.

Hemlock: nice score on the old Columbian vise. great jaws with a straight handle and no broken parts that I can see. probably need to clean off the back portion of the slide that has gotten rusty so it will slide easier through the vise and not put as much stress on the screw.

Not sure if this is "you ****" territory, but picked up my first snap-on tools today. So excited, it looks like there is 206AFSP, 211FSY (unused), 211SFSY (unused), and 3 spark plug sockets too. Over $700 at snap-on, picked it up at a old car swap meet for $200. good deal ?

Judging by the style of the knurled nuts that lock them onto the scale blade, yes the belong together. in a set you get three heads and one blade. you would be missing the Vee shaped center finder head...
On the vise, close it completely, then clean the end of the slide well, and look for any raised dings from abuse. If there are any, either flat file them flush or stone them flush. Then lube it and give it a try.

I didn't hit any GS today, instead me and the family got family portrait taken and then to Lowes to get bathroom supplies. Then back home to sand and reskim again.
I'm thinking of hitting two tomorrow but the weather is very crummy around here!!!

Today's auction purchase. Williams USA 1" ratchet, t-bar, 8" and 16" extensions and 19 sockets ranging from 1 1/16"-3 1/8". Resizing the images makes them look stretched, for reference the table is 48" wide.
I got the lot for $180.
Oh, and they were stuffed in a 24" Kennedy box.

and... Ta da! its a Plvmb! marked USA also so later not early. So why the odd head design? never seen one from Plvmb/Proto quite like it. It's also ****** heavy. My 1" Plvmb ratchet is 12 lbs. This 3/4" is 12-1/2! Late war and made by once of the companies Plvmb/proto bought during and after the war years?

There was only one estate sale worth going to this weekend, but unfortunately I was too sick to go yesterday. I missed out on the good handtools, but still found a few goodies this morning. They were clearing out their grandfather's house. The shop was full of 1960's equipment, mostly Delta. The table saw, jointer, shaper, and lathe were all sold at around $300 each. The only piece that hadn't sold yet was the floor model drill press with foot pedal. That was in the same price range.
I walked out with a 1967 Industrial rated 7" Block grinder, extra wheels, and 2 body working dollies. All for $20. The only thing missing on the grinder are the wheel covers and one of the lenses for the guards.

Nothing at these 2 over priced estate sales I was at today really worth talking about.
