Now today's sale was priceless.I managed to get there BEFORE Rickster!!!First time ever!!!
Also got the opportunity to meet Rickster is person and he is a very nice guy. Glad we could put faces to names and finally meet.
There were four of us total who were the early risers and of course first in .We all hit the basement after the tools and I ended up with some bargains, nice stuff. There was not a large amount of stuff to be had but I ended up with:
A Bosch SDS dill bit set, sharpies,a glue gun and glue sticks,a 1/2" and 3/8" SK socket sets,a pair of Channellock linesmans pliers,a pair of Malco snips, and inetersting plastic/steel 1/4" ratchet, applewood chips for the smoker all for $40.Another not screaming deal but I think in the long run I did OK.

I met a guy this morning thru his yard of stuff. I was hoping for bicycles and tools/boxes. they were all junk. but he had tons of granite slabs. mostly huge or broken. I found a nice 1'x1' piece. it aint machine shop tool room grade, but it'll be fine for anything I need. and than I found a 1' length of railroad track. I know what they go for on CL and egay and I kinda know what granite goes for. so I offered him 20 bucks each. he was happy for that.
not a smoking deal, but i'm happy.
he's got a lot more stuff. I told him id be back when its a little warmer

So how did you make out? I had my sale then hit 4 pawn shops and an indoor flea market and all I came home with was lunch :lol_hitti
SNIP

Short run today, an Hour 45 minutes start to finish! I started at the HS FM, and did OH the remainder was all at an estate sale (second day, place was near empty..) But I did OK. actually more than OK. other than that, except for one, it was Drive on a sunny day for the rest of the planned stops and TOO's

Fleamarket: .50c for the Diamalloy Needlenose, second pair in as many weeks; Proto LA tappet wrench, ground even flatter on one end $1; Proto #4 PH tip looks like it's never been used, Proto 8 oz BP head, and a no-name wood handle driver, $8

GS of one of my Co-Moderators in a yahell group, an old 8" fixed head fan.

The estate sale:
Adjustable Clamp Co. 3" clamp (found clamped to a stud; think the garage will fall down? ), Stiletto #1 Phillips also marked "Phillips Lic.7" and the Pat. No. Hmmmm; Channel lock Slip joints, an "ACE made in USA pocket driver, and a couple of lead weights.

attachment.php

And last but far from least, an 18" Golden Rod. clearly they upgraded from this one to a 36"... Total bill at the Estate sale was $3! :rocker:

This GR will be much more effective than the couple of 4-7W night lights I currently use in my Gunsafe!

Went to an estate sale 5 miles away and this time I was 7th in line 20 mins before start. They let us into the garage full of tools 10 mins before official time and everyone but me darted into the rest of the house. It was odd having the garage to myself if only for a few minutes.

I filled a bucket with tools for $15 then paid another $2 for craftsman hatchet. Then after loading up the car I came back and spent another $5 for coffee can full if tools. $22 total.

From a estate sale in Tallahassee, all for $ 15.00. Most everything was priced and they would work some on pricing. The puller is neat, need to look it up.

From a small auction, 14 round pen panels for the wife to set up and work the horse in.

From a local online auction,a handful of adjustable wrenches, all for $ 10.00. I didn't really need any, but really like the Diamond Horseshoe brand, I'll give some to my son, maybe he'll leave mine alone. Note the one marked "Diamond Brand", its made in china, playing off the horseshoe one.

A buck or two each. I guess that round thing marked Sweeney converts a 3/4" breaker bar into a 1/2" ratchet??

Picked up this little guy at an auction this morning for $10. It's a US made Craftsman model 506-51801, weighs about 17 pounds with 3 1/2" jaws on a swivel base. It needs to be cleaned up a bit but the jaws align perfectly and it operates smoothly. Everything I could find online, including here in the GJ suggests it was made by Columbian in the mid 60's.

Just got back from my excursion. The first stop was a bodyshop that was going out of business. 90% of the tools were junk, but I scored this box along with the two autobody stands for $20:rocker:.

The box is a crappy PARK Model 86676, but it has some cool patina:scared:.

The other noteables were as follows:
J.H. Williams 10" adjustable
Channel lock No. 356 end cutters
SK 3/8" 45170 ratchet
SK 40190 swivel ext.
SK 1 1/16" no. 40134
Proto 3/8" No. 5257 flex head ratchet:rocker:
2 Armstrong retaining ring pliers No. 2076&2077
Snap-on 1 1/4" S401 socket
Snap-on hose clamp pliers HCP 46 BP:rocker:
Like I stated earlier though either the good stuff was gone way before I got there or the guy just used and abused crappy tools. After that I stopped at the local flee market and scored these items:

The metal parts box was a nice grab. I spotted it about 25 yards away and was pulling my money out when I saw who was selling it. He is the type of guy who likes to blow stuff out since he gets sooo much. I try and pick his brain as to where he scores his stuff, but he is always tight lipped:sad:.

The last score was the quench cup for a B&D bench grinder which is new in the box. I got it for $1 off of this guy who is like the Dollar Store of the flee market. Basically EVERYTHING is ONE DOLLAR. You can actually hear him saying as you are walking up to the parking lot where the vendors set up.

I was expecting more, but didn't go away totally bummed. I only spend $27 on everything so all is good in my universe. It was in the high 40's today thus the flee market. I'm ready for spring to get its **** here.

That's a nice vise, I have refurbed/sold a few and have a couple I kept. Check out the Vise thread here for lots of others in various color combinations!

Thanks! I've been wading through the Vise thread, lots of cool stuff in there. I figured this one would be usefull on my basement work bench but I've also really been fighting the urge to start collecting them.

Dang guys finding some good stuff in the cold months.

Alinc100, great stuff, did you have to pitch a tent last night to beat Rickster? Let's see the kennedy box.

That's some really nice stuff Matt, at the bucket and coffee can O' tools.

Dave, as expected. :willy_nil The cost of living must be really low out there. Post up some pics of the adapter, it does look like a ratcheting adapter.

TMT, O man as soon as I saw that box I knew it came from a body shop. I pity you having to clean that up. BTDT, no fun. Looks like some good stuff otherwise though. That water trough was a nice find, hope it fits something common.

Itinerant, looks like a nice vise for $10, even appears to have some serrations left on the jaws.

I always wanted to start a thread about "The Bodyshop Toolboxes of GJ", but it would probably upset too many on the site:evil:. Most bodymen treat their toolboxes like red headed stepchildren.

Yea, that would probably go over as well as the "deals you missed" thread. :lol_hitti Seriously though, my main box came out of a guys garage that did body work. It was a fantastic deal I guess, but looking back not sure if I would do it again. Might as well just mix flour and Elmers glue then slather the box with it. I wish you the best with that project, I've found a clay bar work pretty well but even then it is lots of aggravating and time consuming work.

Nice scores all!

And Toomany, Park didn't build too bad of a box. I wouldn't have called it "crappy"... Crapped on maybe  If you can get the crud and rust off, and get some paint on it, its a decent, if small box. Specialty tool of some sort. I keep all the air brush and related stuff in my 3 drawer carry sized ParkI

Nice! I was out there around 11:00. Picked up the square, monkey wrench, clamps, and a few saw sets there.

I got there around 9:30am'ish. I scored it from Mike who usually sets up by the front of the lot across from the New Castle Airport. He does a lot of estate cleanouts, and normally has a ton of cardboard boxes filled with household items, but he puts the tools on the table. I scored a Snap-on puller cabinet with the tool board and 75% of the parts for $50 back in October. He knows what the stuff is worth, but gets it cheap and doesn't want to take it home with him. My kind of seller:rocker:.

I just went back to look and saw this comment. Patina? Me thinks somebody has been smoking the ebay pipe. What does the inside look like?

I was being 100% sarcastic, but I may try and give it a once over. All the drawers open and close nicely, and it does still lock the drawers when the top lid is closed. Inside is in about the same shape as the outside minus the body filler gobbed on top.

I don't think a clay bar is going to help me out much. This will require my DA sander and more than likely a good media blasting. I'll also have to make up some new drawer pulls.

Nice scores all!

And Toomany, Park didn't build too bad of a box. I wouldn't have called it "crappy"... Crapped on maybe  If you can get the crud and rust off, and get some paint on it, its a decent, if small box. Specialty tool of some sort. I apologize Outlaw. I first thought it was an Oxwall considering the dinky drawer pulls (or pull for this guy), but once I chiseled off the aged bodyfiller (without hardener thank God!!) my doors of perception were cleansed. It is not crappy, but it sure as hell isn't a Snappy.

Picked up these items for $9. The clippers are made in England. The Vulcan ratchet is sweet! Anyone know anything about the Craftsman right angle drive?

Hit a few sales yesterday.

The first one was a bust, lots of people showed up but NOT the people running it. Stayed there for over half an hour beacsue it was supposed to have lots of tools.

Second one was an estate sale, not a lot of tools left but I found a mini maglite, Craftsman Crown label scraper and ratcheting wrench, Craftsman glass cutter and ball peen hammer, vintage General Hardware drill index and a working Sun Ray heat lamp for $12 total.

Third one was a retired Air Force guy who used to be a navigator on KC-135's. I was a crew chief on KC-135's so we talked about the plane and old bases that are now gone.

My scores from here, Proto bottom roller cabinet, Cleco pliers, Craftsman chisel and ball peen hammer, USA made reamer, interesting Pexto pliers, JK Porter bolt cuttters, Snap-On pliers, Vaughn pry bar, Wiss sheet metal snips.

Small aircraft propeller spinner, Structo metal toy truck, aluminum fan blade that looks like a four blade aircraft propeller, vintage wood and cast iron photo/paper cutter, Red Racer wood model car kit and two cans of Cox glow fuel.

$45 total.

Last stop was a bust but across the street was a small thrift store. Found a vintage General Fireproofing "Mode Maker" 40" desk with a single set of drawers. It's an exact match for my 60" double set of drawers desk I am typing on right now so I picked it up for $15. It will go in the computer room after some re-arranging and I will then eliminate the out of place filing cabinet.

So yesterday I stopped back at the first sale and thee was a sign there that they would be open tomorrow.

So I get back up this morning and try again. Get there a bit early and there is a guy with a pile of the good stuff including a 1960's "mailbox" Craftsman grinder. He said he paid $10 for it grrr should have been there earlier! Guy running the sale said he was stuck in Houston yesterday and didn't get in until Friday night. It was his grandparents stuff plus his mothers stuff, some had not been touched in years.

Started going throught the 3 backyard sheds and found some goodies. There was a puller set there but there was a DEAD RAT on it and nobody would touch it LOL. The puller stuff looked familar and the rat was pretty dried out so I moved him aside and took a quick look and saw Snap-On on one of the arms. Guy running the sale gave it to me for cheap LOL because of the dead rat. After 2 hours of cleaning (including some strong bleach water) and oiling it at home and some Ebay sleuthing I found out I had a complete Snap-On CJ282B puller set plus the "paw" for pulling harmonic balancers.

Other stuff I picked up were lamp oil, Cordomatic reel, several hammers including Ampco brass and Millers Falls, J.P. Daniels adjustable wrench, Stanley torpedo level, working air ratchet and drill.

Sandpaper, new nylon brushs, plant light bulb, vintage USA made Liberty driving lights, Penske compression tester and a vintage Shreveport Police ruler that's about 1963 judging by the 1963ish Ford Galaxy on it.

A Scout and a Craftsman vise

Five chains, a USA made chain binder, full cans of lube oil, Never Dull and Scrubs in a bucket, the blue roll of matting will be used to line small tool boxes.

Made In USA stuff: new tool cart and soaker hoses. The cord reel has no name or COO on it.

I bought two hand carry boxes.
The vintage Craftsman is too far gone to restore but the badge will get robbed for other projects. Tools include lots of USA screwdrivers, Barcalo, Blackhawk, Bonney, Craftsman wrenches, Husky USA ratchet, Indestro punch and socket, Proto pliers, Snap On socket, Vaco nutdriver, Vlcheck wrench, Xcelite screwdriver, rasp and bur, router bits and real Unibits.

The red toolbox was for vintage British motorcycle with Whitworth tools and special tools. Some were marked BSA and Triumph, there were 7 Snap-On and 5 King **** whitworth sockets, Dunlop Tire tire spoons and lots of other special wrenches and stuff.

I like the vintage Sears "Tirpolene" tin plus the a full can of WD40 along with other oils. The little light is an older USA GE and works.

The pry bar with the yellow sticker is an Enderes, the blue square is a Craftsman and there are several shackles and a battery carrying strap.

In the last crappy pic is a Craftsman drill bit set, lots of USA made hole saws, large brass plomb bob and Fuller wire wheels.

Including two microwave dishes and a shop broom I spent $72 total and called it a day!

LOL after writing a long story EXPERIENCE has taught me to post then and then edit the pics in to reduce the chance of all that writing getting wiped out.

that snap-on "booger picker" is worth the 10 bucks if you need it(if yer a car guy)
everything else is gravy

My first post at GJ!

These are my finds so far in 2014. I began at the beginning of january doing an overhaul of the garage. Mostly work on cars, trucks, boat motors, and small engines/machines for my business. It was time to upgrade some things!

First buy was a Snap on rolling toolbox that matches the smaller top box I got from my late grandpa. He would have been proud of the yard sale price I paid: $80

Needed even more room and found this old Kennedy tool box at the flea market. It had all kinds of chisels, tap and dies, drill bits and random other stuff in every drawer. It's a little rough but only cost me $8.

There was a duffle bag full of 50+ pounds of sockets at a pawn shop. I start to dig through it and the guy says "I'll take $40 for all those junk sockets." The first one I saw was that big 1 and 7/16 snap on socket and I said sold. After sorting out a ton of junk I'm left with this, lots of snap on, SK, proto, old craftsman, etc. Still going through it but there's a ton of 1/2 inch drive stuff I needed and probably a few sets.

Thanks! Yes it is all real, got lucky on a lot that's for sure, hopefully my luck keeps up because I still got more in the tool budget. I've been looking for that exact snap on box for years (at a price I could afford). I was the first one at the garage sale that morning and when she said $80 I honestly got the shakes. Was loading it up when 10 other guys arrived. That's the kind of luck I've been having the past month.
