Sailing is still pretty slow here.

Wall hung storage cabinet ($.50):

Old clock ($10):

P1020964.jpg

That's a ZEE medical supply cabinet. Common in larger industrial or office environments. Those vinyl pouches on the left side would hold scissors, gloves, and other items while the shelves stocked all the bandages, medications, etc.

The clock- well, that clock is just simply freaking awesome.

I used to think old rusty tools were junk... until I started reading this site. Where do you guys find out about all the estate sales?

www.estatesales.net

You can subscribe to their email alert and get a listing of estate sales in your area each week along with preview photos of the items that will be part of the sale. It really makes a huge difference when you can scope out the sale in advance through the photos.

drivesitfar, the combination wrench with the arched handle in the second photo is a Ford tool kit, probably 1930's. The hex is for cylinder head nuts and the open end fits the spark plug hex. The bigger the spark plug opening, the older the wrench.

Some of the DOE wrenches in the first photo could have come from the same kit. Search "Ford tool kit" and more information should come up. People collect tools from these kits.

Had my own sale last weekend so didn't check out any others. I did OK considering the weather.
But I did pick up this from a thrift store for $2. It wouldn't take a charge, but I opened it up, "reset" the connector and away it went. Just loving the small size and it has sufficient torque for household and some shop use.

I don't understand the light though. The light comes on when you operate the trigger and I want to see where the screw is before I pull the trigger.

Vegaman Dan, I think the set of what you think are seal drivers are bushing drivers. I have a very similar set.

Thanks Provincial:thumbup: the bent wrench is for Model T and the other wrenches might be for Ford tractor is what I found so far. since I bought an old tool box off a tractor that we can't seem to find information on these would go directly in that box with a little clean up.

i'm thinking of just using simple green for clean up or would a vinegar soak overnight be ok on old tools? is wire wheeling to harsh for these old tools or is that the best way to clean them up?

Fordson tractor wrenches should be similar to Model T wrenches, if not the same. Ford N-series tractor wrenches have a prefix of O1A, which associates with the 1940 model year. A 7/16x1/2" DOE wrench would have a number O1A-17015. Model A wrenches had an A for a prefix. Many Ford wrenches had an M forged in them for Manzel, the manufacturer. The Ford tractor wrenches generally (except, for instance, plow wrenches) were the same as ones from the auto and truck tool kits.

Here is a discussion of Ford wrenches:

The power tool is a screw gun and while I can hear the motor running and reversing, the output shaft does not do anything. It has a hex opening like for a bit, but has a center stud that seems to not move. I'm not sure how screw guns are supposed to work. It's an older 60's or 70's era thing..

I am gonna speculate that if you put a hex driver, nut driver, bit holder in the chuck when pressure is applied the bit will spin.Similar to a drywall screw gun.
There are other tools in that configuration but with standard drill chucks that are quite handy. The 2 prevelant makers are/were Sioux and Milwaukee.

The plunger seems to be pretty stiff so I don't know if I can get a bit in there or not. I'll mess with it in a bit and see what happens. It's sure a compact size and decent angle.

I do believe it's a SIOUX.

I had a pretty weak weekend of scores, but I didn't spend more than $20 so that's more in the pocket for the next round. I am hoping this season picks up within the next few weeks. This winter has kicked me in the junk. Even when I found a score I had to freeze my *** off in a garage or barn pulling the item to mytruck which had two feet of snow in the bed:eyecrazy:!!

Back to the scores. The Enterprise cherry stoner is something that I thought would look good restored and painted for the kitchen. It was only $5. The clamp style vise was $1. I'm not sure of the make, but it is pretty old and was only a buck. I had to put my tiny vise in its jaws along with the 16oz CL can for perspective:bounce:. The 3M sanding block was also a buck. I also scored a Yield sign, but it's too cold to go out in the garage and snap a pic of it.

Woke up this morning at 3am and checked out craigslist. There was a posting a few hours old for a Walker-Turner dual head drill press. Photos were fuzzy but price was right. Emailed seller that I would take it and met him this evening. Press is a 1200 series 15" press. Model 1211-22 which translates to:

Two spindle deluxe model, standard speed pulley and No 1 M.T. Spindle and production table.

As a deluxe model it includes optional belt guard, head raising assembly, push button switch and 1/2" chuck. Has original 1/2 HP motors.

This is an old unit SN is 0000005 and 0000006

The seller just moved in and previous owners left this in the garage. He just wanted it out. It was tough for the two of us to lift. I'm guessing close to 300lbs.

One head has a tapping tool on it.

I disassembled it in my driveway to load into the garage.

Not sure what I'll do with it yet. I'll clean it up and figure out what is broken/missing then decide if it is worth fixing or selling.

those Walker Turners have been turning up left and right lately, though usually either priced higher than I'm willing to pay, or don't have a base. How much did that set you back?

Nice drill press Matt. That is like an ideal gang setup for the house. Not too big but not too small. You should keep it as is and have a super fast tapping setup. Do I really see that you ratchet strapped around the spindle of the right head? :scared:

Ugh. I didn't notice that until now. It was dark and cold and the strap kept falling as I tried to tighten it. Took two or three tries to secure. Felt like 15 mins in the cold trying to secure it. When I focused on ratcheting I didn't notice that I lifted band to wrong position. How bad is it? Straps weren't too tight just snug.

Don't worry. That ratchet strap can't generate enough pressure to hurt the spindle, and static pressure wouldn't affect the bearings. Especially at that shallow of an angle.

The important thing is getting it moved without dropping it or tipping it over!

IDK, it's probably fine, unless you went down an extremely bumpy road. Only time will tell. I wouldn't do that in the future though.

Second stop was another estate sale. I almost left then the seller told me to go int the attic. I couldn't believe my eyes way up there was shop packed full. Worker told me they already sold a pratt whitney milling machine and sb lathe. Dont know how they got everything up or down the narrow staircase. I wanted the stand up drill press but they wanted way too much

Made out ok any way

Bought a drawer full of large drill bits and some reamers for $75 many were tapered shank which I have been looking for. Vintage brand name stuff. Standard tool cleveland chicago Latrobe. Most bits were 1/2" + 130 bits total
They also had a large drawer of reamers taps and dies but I was low on $$$
Also bought peterson vise grips, leather punch and a mystery KD tools piece ...(someone must know what it is here...close up pic included) bridgeport phillips and set $10 total

Wow gearhead, nice stuff. What size is the brass and copper stock? How big is that counter bore? Good stuff, especially considering last day. I guess the other folks were only looking for the shiny stuff. ;)

RuffGeezer that old tool box looks like it is more like your name (handle) on GJ and much easier to use than the cup and saucer. love the lock on it too.

It had a bunch of beat up chisels and punches in it, the guy wanted a pound a go on those, which I politely declined, if they were part of the deal, that'd have been ok, but I wouldn't pay that much for them.

There was a lovely adjustable mitre gauge there though, a good excuse for another rummage perhaps!

the stock was 3/4", the counter bores were 3/4, 7/8 and 1 inch

I think there was so much there it was overwhelming...probably what my place will look like in 50-60 years :eyecrazy:

Went to a late starting (1:00pm) estate sale today and picked up a few supplies and a router and a set of template guides.

Router was $50, Guides $3, Sanding belts $5 for 3 packs of 2, K&N recharge kit for $2 Oil , hand cleaner and paint trays added another $4.

No really great deals, but I am happy with things I will use.

Southern CA finally got hit with some heavy rain so sales were slim pickings this morning. I got into one garage, with no vise, and little to no tools.

These were all i could find but the few bucks i paid made it worthwhile. The organizer will be used at work for spare parts.

The craftsman DBE wrench is really old and fills another hole in my almost complete set.

Allstate oil can is half full and will be given to a friend who collects oil cans.

I think the Craftsman oiler is the coolest item of the day. It has hardly been used and the inside is clean/bone dry. I thought it would be a light blue or silver but the color is actually lavender.

This toolbox came from the flea market on Sunday but i had totally forgotten about it in the bed of my truck.

I'm not sure what size of ratchet/sockets came in the box but it condition is really good. The paint is original and the name badge just shines. I gave it a few tweaks on the lid and it closes perfectly.

If anybody knows what type of Craftsman tools would of gone in here, let me know. I would like to make a simple set of tools and fill it out but don't know if it would be V code stuff or the earlier Long C tools.
