Jeff is correct, looks to be from a early to mid 50's 1/2" socket set. No tray, V series.

Spent more than I wanted to today.

I found this listing on CL on monday. It took him three days to respond to my email.
Kennedy Tool Chest - $125
Kennedy Tool Chest, three drawers, key lock, removable top tray, 12" deep X 26" wide X 14-1/2" high. Bottom roll around, no name, 3 drawers plus bin, 32" [it's only 18"] deep X 26" wide X 32" high, four 3" x 1-1/4" swivel casters. All moving parts operate well.

Well, he didn't know what the bottom box was, but I did. His pictures didn't show the box with the cover down, but I knew that as soon as I pulled the cover out I would see a distinctive "swoosh" that cried out Huot ! I was right. :rocker:

I tried to get him to sell me just the bottom, but he wouldn't separate them and he was firm on the price. He was asking for $125, but I ended up paying $115 for both boxes. The top is a Kennedy 263 w/ tray and working key. It will probably end up in my bedroom to replace a plastic 3-drawer that I have there.

He bought the Huot as decommissioned inventory from his job. He said that at one point the company payed to have someone come in and powder coat everything yellow. The original color is hammered blue. I hope it isn't powder coat, I'd like to recover the original paint. I'll try the paper towel and simple green trick to see if I can remove the yellow and get back down to the original blue. The box also needs a little "loving" with a hammer and dolly, and a new lock. It sits an inch shorter than my other box. The stops on the drawer slides are different as well. I'm guessing that this one is from the 60's, since my 7-drawer appears to be from the 70's. This one is similar, but slightly different.

While I really like the styling of the 40's and 50's Craftsman's, These Huot's seem to be growing on me.

You want to trade me a Kennedy for a Benjamin ? No thanks, Kennedy's throw better parties, Benny is too stuffy. :lol_hitti

P.S. - the kennedy is a top box, not a middle. It wouldn't work the way you want it to.

You guys are still knocking it!

:sigh: I think I'm going to get rained out so the "drought" extends to 4 weeks (not counting the picking from my Dad's estate)

Several temptations today but didn't pick anything up. A frozen S-K 1/4 ratchet, some early craftsman sockets, a few tap holders, a smaller vintage japanese Craftsman vise.

OK, Not completely skunked today: The HS Flea had maybe 10 sellers despite the threat of rain, and I got a billings BP hammer and a big EZ out, "CTD, Clev. O. USA" (Cleveland Tool and Die? :dunno: )

EDIT: The Billings is probably a 16 oz, and had Made in USA on the back, as well as the "B" in a triangle.

2 other stops: AWOL and nothing worth getting...

I also have my camera back from it's trip from Idaho :tard::withstupi:badteeth:

My Dad's tool shed before: (Yes there is a small grinder; a Dayton that will come home, I found one set of guards; the small green vise was broken, left, all the other power tools were left to sell. Only one US made, an old Weller gun, and I have better... The hand tools were cherry picked including the large wrenches from the early years, wil make the round trip back home, and many many drill bits scattered to hell and gone were gathered and those will come home. 4 Large flat rate boxes worth

The "After" pics; roughly cleaned up, good enough for buyers to rummage through without walking on tools. The two drawer Kennedy was if good mech shape, just not worth shipping to me. The big vise on the WorkMate? Broken Chicom, on a broken WM... Left them both

This compressor was in the other shed which was part camp gear, part general storage. Anyone in Boise area need a noisy Oilless compressor?

I went to one today and got a yankee screw drill 131A with extra bits, the original box and instructions for $10, some =v= 1/2" drive Metric sockets and a craftsman strap wrench for $9.

I plan to put the yankee drill on ebay and see if I recover my cost plus more.

Its cold in Michigan too but I've resorted to indoor events. So far in 2014 I've scored some goodies at two industrial auctions locally.
DiAcro Finger Brake $235
Hand Truck $20
11- Extenion Cords/2 trouble lights $15
2 - 8" C-clamps $15
2400 PSI Pressure Washer $85
2 - Boxes of electrical boxes, power cords, misc parts $15

Unfortunately these auctions mean some local business has gone under but it also means good deals on tools and equipment if you bid carefully.

Todays find was on a last second decision to stop into the local Salvation Army store. Found this vintage 1960's Delta Electric Co., Delta King sealed beam lantern. Paint is pretty chipped but enough there to try and match for restoration. Only $10 and that made it one of those situations where you buy it when you see it or next time it will be gone. I'll have to go through it thoroughly to see if it still works but all parts are there including the lamp.

3 big closed end wrenches and a Diamond tin snip. ($1 ea)

P1030012.jpg

However this guy caught my eye. It's a very heavy Stanley level. One side is flat and the other is concave. It has protectors that rotate and cover the vials when not in use. All vials are good. Is it carpenter or machinist?? (it was also on the $1 table)

Picked up a few goodies here lately.

Brown & Sharpe #609 dial depth gage, .0005 grad, 0-3". The inldicator is a little wonky and I am not sure if it can be repaired or not. The cool part is, the base is hardened, decent sized (4"x3/4"x9/16") and has 3 thru holes tapped 3/8-24 and a neat little threaded collet, so I can put another 1" travel indicator in it.

Brown & Sharpe #215 disc mic.

Favorite find in a while...Lufkin #77E radius gage set in vinyl case 9/16-1". They had light rust which buffed out. They are all 1/16" thick and the set of 8 weighs almost a pound and a half. For size comparison the silver rectangle under the top of the pic is the edge of my netbook.

Last, NOS Lufkin Royal steel tape 50'. A couple of rust spots but it is unused.

Picked up from an estate sale about a mile from the house. Estate of a former Ford dealership mechanic. Today was the 3rd day of a 3-day sale thus 50% off day. Surprised to see the stuff still there but probably the high prices and the cold weather. Reasonably priced at 50% off today though.

Sometimes you take the chance and it pays off, sometimes it doesn't.

Hit a yard sale today that advertised tools. I got there late, and most all the good stuff was either gone, or had sold tags on it. I spotted a grinder table that had some stuck drawers in it. Asked about the price, the guy said $25 for everything in and on the table. I had a $20 and he took it.

IMG_1847.JPG

The grinder on the right was included, the grinder on the left was mine already.

Well used grinder, but a cheapie.

IMG_1849.JPG

It's a home made table, welded with wood and sheet metal bits. I'd hoped there was good stuff in the drawers, but nope.

Got half a coffee can full of scrap metal, broken bits and random nuts and screws. The only 'tool' was a 3/8" ratchet extension, unbranded.

IMG_1850.JPG

the drawers are bent and riveted thin sheetmetal, and they are beat to hell.

IMG_1851.JPG

So, at the end of the day, I've got a big cart for my little grinder, and drawers I can't use. And it's that nasty shade of crimson as well... clashes with the orange and blue theme.

Got these for free though, a little sanding, a little stain and a little paint, and I think I can find a place.

I was determined to get in on an advertised sale that claimed to have a ton of tools. I got up at 0630 got there by 0730 for a sale that was suppose to start at 1000 and I was #43. But hey they let 25 people in at a time. Traveled 42 miles round trip and ended up with double ended adjustable wrench for $3.

Happy Birthday nine

Sounds like a pain... At least that double-ended adjustable will more than pay for the gas. And breakfast. And lunch.

Got an indestro 6470 1/2 inch ratchet for 2 dollars at the pawn shop. Cole MFG vise for 57, not great deal, but good enough at an auction.
