Here's one CL purchase from last week. The add was for a box of extra and seconds of hand tools. He wanted $40 but we settled at $30 and really I'm not sure that was such a good deal after sorting through it all today. Much of it is cheap Chicom and Taiwan stuff or Kobalt. And 3 Neiko combination wrenches which look sturdy but I hear are just cheap China as well. The best stuff which maybe makes it worth the cost are the flare tool kit and pipe cutter, the Armstrong 15" adjustable wrench, a couple Channellock Pliers and the Proto Challenger 3/4" combination wrench. Those are probably the keepers and everything else goes in the next garage sale to help get part of my $30 back.

+2, dang I was eyeballing that box so much I didn't even notice the Bullet until I went to scroll down....Great box and vise, YOU ****!

Yea he can keep the sockets, we can split the 1st pic. What do you think the back ground on that box is, 1940's socket set perhaps? With the leather handle yet more modern emblem than a 1930's box. For someone that doesn't know wilton's how wide are the jaws on that one? 3.5-4"?

Also is it just me or does the emblem seem suspect? Being upside down and all. All the leather handle boxes I've seen like there were from the 30's and had the older emblem on them. :headscrat:

Okay Frank, so long as we're all drooling, what's that short wide combo wrench in the tray, to the left of yellow precision screwdriver set in pic #2. Blue-Point? Hard to tell.

I know it's quite specific but, I like that old stuff.

I finally got a nice hit on CL this week. This couple was selling off the tools from a former MAC dealer. I think I got beat to a lot of it but still I did pretty darn good. They had a lot of new MAC stock to move still. I also got to go picking in the seller's private tool box for some goodies.

All for $260, plus a few more odds and ends I put away and a Snap On 1/2" ratchet and duplicate Mac hose pliers I sold to somebody.

The first pic is all Mac NOS.

The second pic is NOS socket rails and hose pliers.

Third pic, used MAC metric flare wrenches, Williams spinner, mixed Snap On, Mac, s-k, craftsman extensions.

Fourth pic: brake pad spreader.

Fifth: NOS Mac punches, chisels, wobble, magnetic, and adapter extensions, file.

Sixth pic: NOS Mac brass face dead blow.

LAST: nos MAC wrenches.

Second is this SO tool box in pretty good shape. It is repainted so I am not sure what the numbers are I can make out A 60 on the back. $15.

I replied to the vintage box thread also. The box is a KRA-21 from the 1960's. I'm still skeptical of these mythical pawn shops you folks speak of on here. :headscrat

I don't understand what you mean by "mythical pawn shops"
What is mythical about them?

It was a joke, or my poor attempt at one. When people post on here about the good deals that get at pawn shops I often wonder in amazement. All the pawn shops I've been to around here, usually have stuff for more than new retail or 2x ebay. If it says snap on, O you will be reaching deep. Had that been up here they probably would have had $150 on it.

OK, I thought I was missing something, could be me though! lol
I buy a lot of sruff from the pawn shops around here so I usually get a good deal from them. Especially if it has been there a while. Of the 6 pawn shops here only one thinks their stuff is gold. The rest want to make money.

Got a free giant 3 drawer filing cabinet today, that i'm going to paint and put under my workbench to replace the cheap plastic bins I have for detail stuff.

Tomorrow i'm headed to a garage sale that the add reads almost all tools and some misc. stuff. Very vague description and no details on items but if you use google earth you can see an enclosed race trailer and smaller shop. Apparently there was a death in the family, so I'm hoping I can get there early and get some good deals. They didn't even list the times

Nice pick-ups of some nice quality tools 3baygarage  , especially the metric stuff which isn't always easy to come by on CL, Estates sales, etc.

Things seem to be picking up locally and hopefully I will get out tomorrow

found a little home having a garage sale not too far from my shop and had to try to find something to post. here is what i found and a couple items were not quite sure what they are or how old. 90 year old seller so gotta be US made and pretty old and 45 year old grandson gave me a good price so a few tools to add to the collection?

this punch has a name on it i hope comes through on a picture because i couldn't read with my old eyes and looks like it has a bearing on the end of it. i love the old metal knippers or whatever they are called. envelopes have maybe 1/8 th inch plastic shieds i'm not sure what i'll use them for. might work well as grinder shield replacement or i'll cut in half and us them in my organizer drawers.

good luck this weekend guys (and gals)

It looks like a grommet set. Does the face at the bottom of the taper have a profile that would cup a tarp grommet ?

:+1: be on the lookout for a ultra heavy washer with an odd countersink, That's the anvil. all you need after that is the appropriate punch for the holes and some brass gromets.

I got a complete set at a sale a while back but it never struck me that this was another grommet punch. The anvil will work with either punch.

Haven't been out this year yet, but my best buy last season was a one year old Stihl line trimmer for 15 bucks. It was under one of the tables so I asked the guy, obviously he valued his office furniture more than the tools.

Jake and Outlaw you guys are "GOOD" and Nine has the parts so i know what to look for. Made in China?? i'm sure i can find other uses but those less expensive blue tarps i buy at about the only store i shop at is always loosing the grommets.

i forgot to ad the 3 foot crow bar that i cleaned and put away. now why did i buy it since i have maybe 6 already. because maybe someday I'll need a piece of steel and it will be used for another purpose.

thanks gentlemen and good luck on your sales this weekend.

Very happy with this set for $15 from the local pawn shop. 1/4" and 3/8" Gray Canada metric set, 5mm to 15mm (7mm is mastercraft), 17mm and 19mm sockets, almost brand new. I usually don't even bother looking since most of their stuff is priced through the roof (single sockets $2.99+ each, etc). Stopped in looking for a hammer and thought I'd take a quick look just for fun.

The metric stuff is hard to find, now if only I could find a 1/2" set...

Heres a S-K breaker bar that a friend got in a random box he got at an auction for a buck. He didn't want it so he gave it to me.

I have one too, Drives, anyone know wtf these are?

annnd, we have a winner...Jake

Not so fast guys. :3gears:

Nine. Yours is a different vintage and is an old sailmakers tool. They came in different sizes, I used to have several and have at least one left. They are indeed very similar and work the same way, but not for grommets. Yours, Nine was used for the hand sewn eyelets in sails, and possibly other canvas items but it was for the liner after the ring had been sewn into the Sailcloth. I still have a few of all the original parts and will post pics when I get back to the shop this weekend. For now this shows the difference but not the application.
