The "garden art" is not prominent enough! You know; painted gnomes, cement animals, and of course the obligatory pink flamingos! (trust me on this; honest to god I could have sworn there was a competition for this junk in the "age restricted" Mobile home park my dad lived in, and dang if all of his "garden art" didn't sell....

Outlaw and ALL: if you can look past the trailers and containers in the pictures (and the lack of yard art) the structure must have been made out of 10 tons of steel and a great welder put it together because i don't see any duct tape anywhere. :D

Nines was talking about putting a bus behind his new garage for storage the other day and i mentioned a shipping container which was a bit more money, but neither of us discussed the travel trailer and high rise options. :lol_hitti

That is nice Richard and I would probably find a temporary place for it...but I don't like plastic that much to make it permanent. That said, $10, YOU ****!!! I bet I could flip it for a bill on CL :willy_nil

As for the bus, I bet I could bury one and park another on top. Secret access door under the hood like that cat on RED 2. :lol_hitti

I keed, I keed... :ninja:

Drives, those blue cabs would be in my shop fo evvvva

RC: wasn't trying to show you up, but i can tell you i paid more than a few Benjamins for those because i reeeeeeeeeely wanted them. i have some work to do on them to clean them up and get the drawers all to match along with some rust removal and a few dings to pound out, but i think they will look great especially when i get them filled. i'm tired of looking for the box or bucket of nuts, bolts and stuff that i need when i'm fixing or making something.

by the way i meant to say that i liked yours and i just bought a smaller version of it with some cool stuff inside. it looks like yours has stuff in it too and well labeled so you can find it. i think i remember you posting a picture of your garage/shop and i'm jealous so could you post up a quick picture so i can be inspired to get ORGANIZED?

Nines: now you know they exist i'm sure you'll have some in no time. good luck with figuring out the way to set up that huge garage. did you take Jake's advice and draw out a plan or are you almost done?

have another great day shopping guys.

Richard; apples and oranges, so no one showed you up! If plastic it must be, those you got are the top of the line (I have two smaller units)

Dif, Nice score! 5 that match, almost complete, you will be missing 2 in the "smooth" front set and one in the set with drawer pulls if I count right? What size drawers? (L X W X D ) I may have one spare that fits?

You blew past the 5 sets I have, and I'm still missing one drawer, (spare won't fit..) I'm still filling and reorganizing doe mine...

I see drawer only for the metal ones, If you would like I will start picking them up. Or would shipping kill ya?

Nice finds everyone! Some people are proud (deservedly so) of the tin foil scraps and yogurt cups they recycle at home but all of us should qualify for gold medals simply based on the sheer amount of tonnage we rescue, repurpose, and restore each and every weekend.

I had high hopes for a discrete craigslist ad I saw last friday evening simply reading "mechanic retiring, sell all tools". There were no pictures, no time, and no dates mentioned - just an address. I decided to skip the well advertised sales and check this one out the following morning. I had to give some friends a lift to the airport at 8am which I did first and then headed for the sale. There was only one other person there when I arrived and I had the distinct pleasure of watching him load box after box of snap-on and starrett tools into his truck for 20 minutes. He even bought several vintage snap-on tool boxes and God knows what else that I must have missed by minutes. Then I overheard him say something like "Well the wife needed to run over to her sister's, so I thought -What the heck- Maybe I'll check out that garage sale we drove by this morning".

AAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!

The only thing good he left behind was this 3/4 drive SK Wayne set. I only use something this big a few times a year but I refused to leave that sale empty handed.

IMG_6708.jpg

IMG_6710.jpg

IMG_6709.jpg

The set goes up to 2 1/4" and looks complete although a few of the larger sockets are not marked "wayne"

IMG_6713.jpg

Went to one other sale the following friday and had to dig deep for a few goodies.

IMG_6718.jpg

Misc. SO including metric impact swivels which are great for my motorcycle needs.

IMG_6715.jpg

A Mac ratchet and CM "impact" extension

I am not real attached to this Blackhawk flare wrench, the stubby Lectrolite double box end or the Snap on wobbly. If you guys are up for a trade of Plvmb, Proto or P&C items I would be willing to trade. Let me know!

saturdays score.
saw this old metal tackle box, had some craftsman extensions and a few sockets, the rest is no name, but usable. i was going to buy the extensions when he told me 4 bucks for all of it. was tired of tripping over it in the garage floor. ok done deal.

ended up getting the craftsman one he had with a few good wrenches inside new cman screwdriver, then found a 5/16 gearwrench 3/8 reversible gearwrench and a long matco 1/4 inch ratchet. all for 30 bucks!

sundays find
3/8 earthquake impact and 1/4 inch pro ratchet 20.00. both are new!
5 bucks for the drill bits...cant argue with that.
proto boxed end. a wizard 9/16 combo. cman double boxed end.
P&C adjustable.

all wrenches were bought for a dollar each.

Stopped at the town flea market this morning, more saves from rust-bucket hell.

pic 1-2: $6
"Visible Faucet Repair System", nice steel box, with lotsa tiny plastic drawers with all sorts of faucet parts. I just wanted the box but to be honest, this setup is pretty sweet and I think I'll just keep it as-is, might be handy in the future for sink repairs.

pic 3-4: all for $12
Estwing shingle hammer
old cobbler's hammer
ball-peen hammer, interesting style, longer center shaft than most I've seen. No markings - any background info?

pic 5: all for $6
pair of Stanley hammers, one tack and one 8 oz ball-peen
Heller clincher tongs, used for farrier work, new cost $80 (!!!)
Armstrong DBE wrench, 13/16 and 7/8

pic 6: all for $6
small USA-made die holder, no makers markings
jar lid pry tool
T-handled phillips driver
power cord
Stanley yankee screwdriver with bits, really nice shape and SMOOOOOOTH action
"Magnus Metaffin" engine treatment oil can, nothing in it, I'm a sucker for old oil cans

pic 7: all for $6
Lufkin 6-ft steel tape measure
handful of drill bits
Fairmount 28-S DOE wrench, one of the 5 sizes used in the WWII jeep tool kit
pair of Proto sockets
VACO offset screwdriver
interesting pair of pliers with a screw stop - any idea what it was for? no maker...

Sometimes the small stuff is the best deal. A pile of cheap little service wrenches, a small Gedore and Dunlap wrench, Kraeuter wire bender, Snap On pick, USA made Vice Grips, a USA Husky 1/2 ratchet - just needs a retaining ring, a Craftsman NOS nut cracker, Dasco nipper, and all US sockets - Bonney, Husky USA, Durochrome, Williams, Wards, 2 Craftsman BE, and a New Britain. Everything in the photo for $3!

3 stops on my way to Harbor Freight this morning, 3 successes!

Flea market #1 - $24 well spent:

Mostly CMan =V= stuff, but a few other goodies...

CMan underline 1/2" drive torque wrench

this odd double sided ratchet...

Early 50's Bonney DOE Wrench!!! In nearly 3 years of this, only the second I've found lol

Then a yard sale on the way to the 2nd flea market.... $20:

30" CMan Crowntop carpenters box, with some goodies inside...

Couple Proto wrenches, one pretty rough...

random rusty stuff... but then there was a random yellow box...

that had these in there.

Stop 3... 2nd flea market, and was down to the last $12 in my budget, lol.

That juicer just looks awesome, and that ratchet, now I have the regular and long versions of it! Fairly good day for me!

Duct Tape, the pliers with the thumbscrew look to be hog ring pliers, for installing upholstery (and I think ear tags or somethin' on hogs, too).

Edit: I googled it, farmers put them in a hog's nose to keep it from rooting. I hooked my thumb with one when putting new seatcovers in an old Mustang years ago, I don't like to think about what one in the nose would feel like...

Richard, I certainly was not trying to diss your bins, as Outlaw said, those are top notch for that style cabinets and you have the largest one I have ever seen!! I'm just rough on things and with my luck, they would get scratched or broken fast! Great find!

Drives, I have a set similar to your top right set but mine were toasty when I got them so I painted them up with a 30/30 paint job. You know, 30 feet or 30 beers and they look great  As for plans on the shop, I spent about 15hrs on Sketchup this month and could not get it arranged how I wanted due to the framing in this building. The large upper supports are RIGHT in the way for everything I tried to fit so I just went at it hands on, probably have to sell a lot of my cabinets that won't fit the new floor plan but I think I had too many anyways :ninja:

All you Sunday posters rocked it again, nice job!!

I like that set-up. Great size. Lots of drawers that are good size. I've never seen one like that. Is there a name that goes with the pic?

Found a bunch of good stuff at several outdoor fleas today, but I guess this thread has many a dude going all "Lara Croft-Tool Raider" as I was talking to two of my tools guys at different flea mkts when when newbie buyers strolled up and asked where are all the "cheap and $1 Snap-On and Mac tools" were.

Both vendors said either in thier own tool box or sold to ready buyers or on ebay.

I guess everyone is out for cheap USA made chrome these days.

Oh well.

Too tired to post pics but will do so tomorrow.

C'mon man. Every house in America has Snap-On tools in the junk dwr. and just layin' about the house ready for the flea.
I Know it. LOLOLOLZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

#derp.

MK3Mike, I noticed an Enderes screwdriver handle, you can order the tube and bits from them directly and rebuild yourself a working screwdriver.

Thanks, Jeff. I'll have to check around for it on their site. It's too bad that I didn't find it a little earlier for Enderes Day. I immediately thought of this site when I read the name on the handle. Definite keeper!

Today I had a total of 20 minutes to walk the whole FM while the fiancee went to pick up the hardware she needed. What a difference a day makes at this place. It was waaaay more packed but with a lot of junk vendors. There were flowers, vegetables, knick-knacks….but not many tools.

I managed to find a woman with some tools mixed in with her other "collectables". I spent the balance of my 20 minutes (plus an additional 12) digging through misc trays of wrenches and other tools. Had some interesting finds. She was the kind of seller that I like. The more that I talked to her, the more she dropped down her own prices without having to haggle.

I ended up paying $30 for the pile below.

photo1_zps3f5cda8a.jpg

I didn't realize how many DBE wrenches I grabbed, but since they were all in the $1 bin I grabbed whatever caught my eye.

photo2_zps21dca587.jpg

Husky USA 1/4" breaker (been looking for a 1/4" breaker!), Cman punch in a size that I didn't have and this interesting flathead. The back of the knurled handle is threaded :dunno:

photo3_zps10becfda.jpg

Since I'm a sucker for metric, I was all over this bag that was sorted and marked "metric". I was very happy when I got home to find a 19mm Cman deep 6-point that I was missing from my tray.

photo4_zpsb07bbb9c.jpg

I really only wanted the metric Proto socket in this bag but then I noticed a random Snap On socket in there (right as she dropped the price down to $10) so I went ahead and got it. There is also a loose 3/4" drive metric Proto socket in the first photo that was only $1 that I forgot to take a close-up of.

photo5_zps8f35f4c3.jpg

photo2_zpsac8c1682.jpg

photo3_zps61ce46d0.jpg

Also found a couple Black & Decker W. Germany sockets which I thought were pretty cool.

photo4_zps59cc6547.jpg

Then there was this guy. When I came across it I wasn't quite sure what it was. From what I can tell it's possibly a mini shear? Kinda like a paper cutter for thin gauge metal? If anyone has any info in it please LMK. It seems like the whole thing is machined from tool steel. Got that for $3 and the .500 gauge block for $1.

photo1_zpse38ce753.jpg

Thats all for this weekend. Glad to see some of you guys had some finds as well. Here's to another week of hunting!

Spent one of my vacation days last week hitting some pawn shops with my 10 year old son. It was his first time going with me.

At one shop I picked up the three Blue Point ratchets and the SO extension for $40 total.

The next stop I grabbed the two Duralast and the Proto and Mac wrenches for $4 total.

At the last stop I found the Billings wrench and the Bonney Speeder. I paid $4 total for those two. The Billings has been ground down a bit to make it thinner. The Bonney is in great working condition.

Looks like everyone has been has been doing great. I went to a sale today and I did not see any tools but I always ask even if I don't see anything. The guy says theres a work bench down in his basement if I want I could take a look. I grab my flash light and off I go. Theres no tools but under the work bench I see these two military looking boxes so I drag them out and this is what I found. A set of coleman lanterns and an officers mess kit. He tells me he wants $30 for both, so I grabbed them. They look like they have never been used.

Starting at upper left and working down, Diamond bent-nose pliers, Utica slip-joints and linemans, Crescent screwdriver (with translucent blue handle), Blackhawk screwdriver, Snap-On, Proto, and Challenger 'channellocks', an SK screwdriver, a Proto screwdriver, and a Proto 1/4" drive spinner handle.

Other tools:

SK (diamond logo) and P&C 1/2" ratchets, John Deere 1/4" ratchet, a line of SK sockets, Bonney speeder, a teeny-tiny SO crowfoot, 2 SK extensions, a Wizard spark plug socket, a Herbrand socket, MAC and Bonney flex sockets, a Cman =v= socket and extension, Proto combo, Herbrand tappet wrench, K-D brake bleeder wrench, Williams Superjustable, and a Blue Point aircraft wrench.

YOU ****! I have never even seen one of the military Colemans at a garage sale let alone 2 NOS ones in their original crate! I would not light them. They are definite collector items in that unfired condition.

Nice finds everyone!
I had high hopes for a discrete craigslist ad I saw last friday evening simply reading "mechanic retiring, sell all tools".

The set goes up to 2 1/4" and looks complete although a few of the larger sockets are not marked "wayne"

...and this interesting flathead. The back of the knurled handle is threaded :dunno:

That's the outside part of a nesting screwdriver, I have a couple like that. You are missing the brass cap on the end, which contains several other screwdrivers inside it (also missing from yours). Here's a pic of what should be in the set if it was complete:
