I agree, I don't own one but I've seen several, nice rats. The only downside is if you break parts, you're probably sol on finding a rebuild kit.

I have a Bonney round head 3/4 rat that looks like a huge version of SK's 3/8 round head. I posted pics on here and most people had never even seen one. It has a detachable handle like the Snap-on 3/4 rats. I really like it and I hope with the light use I give it, that it will never break.

Bonney's wrenches are also very nice from what I have seen.

3/4 similar to this 1/2?

I waited in line at a estate sale this morning, Was number 24, only tool that I felt that was worth buying. two dollars for the three piece set

Worth the wait IMHO. A bit surprised that no one else grabbed them. Those off brand, odd looking wrenches.

Lots of good mid-week finds guys

Got an early start to the weekend, stopped at the ReStore on the way home from work and picked up a 9 drawer Art Metal Company document filing cabinet for $20. Always looking for more storage so I’m pretty jazzed. Some of the drawers were a little rough but after an hour of repair/service they all move like butter. The drawers are 9.25w x 27.5l x 3d with the triple ball-bearing slides, now I've got to start loading them up!

Very nice. What are the outside dimensions? It looks narrow compared to the usual 15-18" wide ones. You may want to bolt it to something to prevent tip over. From the pics it just looks really thin for the height/weight capacity. :dunno:

I hit a garage sale the yesterday that the old man, who whet to work, had saddled his wife with. She had no idea of prices except for wrenches. Basically, he had a lot of ****, but I managed to pick up a set of Mac 1/2" dr mm sockets and a few S-K sockets. But every wrench he had was Craftsman at almost list price. I felt sorry for her.
Hit about 8 sales yesterday and only this one and one other had 'tools' they advertised. It was a pretty crappy day.

Hit 3 sales within 5 mins of the house this morning, only one paid off. I got the reel lamp for $4, articulating lamp for $2 and the Proto screw extractor set for $2, lighter for size reference. :eyecrazy: He had a cool old 2 drawer craftsman box with the V logo and a few Snap On pieces inside but would not sell it, I may ride back by on my way to the estate sale later and see if he changes his mind. :D

Was not expecting to have this good luck today!

I forgot mobile only lets you upload 1 picture. The box that's cut off on the left is a 34 piece USA craftsman metric set, sockets & wrenches

All the ratchets are snappy minus one husky, although the sockets are a mix of snappy mustang & proto. Not bad for $40

Aha, there's a funny story behind that plate, I was at a yard sale (go figure right?) & my hands were getting full from little odds & ends. & whilst digging through this garage I saw the plate & decided to use it as a plate to hold all this stuff i'd found. XD lady through it in for free w/ purchase. Also, I'm in stark county about 5 minutes from the hall of fame.

Here's another pic that includes the CMAN stuff.

Guess what? i found some more metal storage. go figure.:dunno:

I like the size and style of this cabinet that I can use to put a lot of my small stuff for my gym equipment business. it's almost 6 foot tall and 13 inches wide. the interesting thing about this one is it is screwed together in 2 high sections so i can take it apart and put on a shelf if i want to later.

I think i might have some more ORGANIZING to do and will maybe start a thread to see what is best for all these different style metal cabinets if i have questions.

have a great day guys and best of luck with all your finds and hoping you all find one thing that you can reeeeeeeeeeeely use or that you have wanted to own.

Nines: nice lamps and just curious how do you use those extractors which by the way look huge? i have a small Proto set that is also missing one of them so do they break or just get lost?

Thanks Drives, I use the smaller extractors in my drill to remove broken bolts, gotta drill a starter hole first to fit the tip in. These larger ones say screw and pipe, so I guess for removing broken off pipes that are threaded in, put a wrench on them and back it out.

I went back to that sale and inquired about a old school(literally) water fountain cooler. The kind with the button on top and a spout that shoots a stream of cold water up. he wanted $30 for one and $40 for the other, then I asked about the Craftsman V logo box and he said make an offer. I tried $20 but he insisted that all the tools were Craftsman and therefore it was worth $40. I shot back a $30 offer which he again refused so I took my tight *** on down the road. He was mumbling something about a lady that asked him to hold some things but never returned with the money, sounded like he just wanted $40 bucks from anyone at that point and I was the only one standing there...:lol_hitti

So I make it to the late 10am starting estate sale with the cool cabinets I posted above and just like I expected, things were astronomically high. As an example, there was a small hydraulic jack in a blow mold case, like you'd find in an auto parts store or Walmart back in 1980 priced $75, the cool metal file cabinet was $150, the large wooden cabinet with all the drawers was $300, the list goes on :eyecrazy:

I did find a couple things I could afford and happen to need, and a thing or two I just thought was cool. The thing in the top right corner is a Brown & Sharp tool makers vise with round insert, barely used and still in the original box. There are some Greenlee(Made for Craftsman) radio hole punches, round and square - NIB. Everything else is Craftsman except the Sears and Roebuck Catalogue from 1927. They had a 1902 S&R cat and a 1894-95 Montgomery Wards and a 1939 Wholesale Hardware Store book as well but they wanted $10 ea on them so I passed. I may cruise back by Sunday morning for 50% off and see what's left.
EDIT: just noticed the 1927 is actually a 1970 reprint, no wonder it was in such good condition :tard:

Yesterday I saw an ad for a Hobart tig setup on CL for $1000. My mind started racing, what do I have worth $1000 I pondered, then it hit me. I have that Miller Maxstar I picked up last year and never got the leads for. The listing was in a city about 2hrs from here but the phone number was from Florida, I thought spammer but took a chance and contacted them. After sending pics, they offered a straight swap, their entire setup for my bare machine. We worked out a time to meet at my shop today and sure as ****, dude pulled in the driveway. He looked my Miller over and was satisfied, then popped his trunk and this is what we pulled out. :eyecrazy: It's freaking HUGE compared to the Miller even though the Miller was a 200a and this is only 165. :willy-nil
Got this:

Stop number two was mostly sockets ,a ton of Craftsman, some SK,some Snap On ,PROTO,Cornwell ,and others. I did separate out a coffee can full of Taiwan and no name stuff. There was 4 coffee cans full of sockets so I made an offer on them all vs weeding thru and they accepted. There is also some MasterCraft sockets( I believe Canadian Tire house brand) although Taiwan seemed decent, have not organized those yet, just separated.

The Craftsman 1/2" ratchet needs a rebuild,got another Cornwell 3/8" ratchet, a MAC offset/90 deg screwdriver handle,Mac Philips #2,C'man #2,another pair of Wiss cutters,Stanley screwdriver,welding clamp, 2 1/4" craftsman ratchets.
Total at this stop was $65.00

So it's been a busy couple of weeks and I haven't had time to post anything, so here's a few things I found.

last friday was anvil day on the 4th for some reason, I picked up 2 both a buck a piece at the same sale, the one looks like it attaches to something, any ideas? I keep thinking railroad for some reason

and then on the 5th, it was Vise day...you guys know about these holiday's right? The first is a Made in USA Matco 5in, paid 20.00 for it, great shape.

the 2nd was a craigslist find: guy posted a picture of a vise for 20.00...after looking at the ad I could reply fast enough, because it sure looked like a Wilton Bullet vise. I get over there and sure enough, it is, I ask why he was selling it. he says my dad left this for me, and I already have a vise, so i'm selling this one.....so now I have my first Wilton Bullet vise, 4.5" jaw, little dirty, and the paints coming off, but she sure works nice.

last thing of the sales was a small dulap set of drawers full of material to make keys for keyholes, that had to come home with me for 3.00

I hate 10am estate sale starts, they're so inconvenient.

That said, I was able to get to one this morning. I stood out on the street to have a smoke, not knowing that they let a bunch of guys into the garage out back early.

Still, they didn't clear out too much, I didn't see the regular tool guys in the crowd. I passed on the Ryobi shop tools and some nearly new high end bar clamps (I didn't need/want them, or have room), but I still found enough to fill my bag. I ended up spending more than I wanted to, but the prices were fair for most things so I sucked it up. I spent a total of $40 for everything.

Pic #1 -
asst. 1/4" pegboard hooks
10pk 12" 24 tooth Buck Bros hacksaw blades (unopened)
4 - 12" 18 tooth Nicholson hacksaw blades (open pack)
5/16" x 18" Irwin drill bit (new in package)
General Tools #889 Dowel Pin set

Pics #2 & 3 -
Black & Decker asst. Router Bits in blow mold case
Eagle (Woodworker's Warehouse brand) 5pc Mortising Bit & Chisel set (barely used, in box) (originally $79.99)
unused WoodCraft Dovetail Bit
china made wood boring bits (missing 5/8")

Pic #4 -
plastic push stick
unknown 5" C-clamp
Channellock #436 cutters (stamped)
Channellock #48-10 nippers (nearly new, ink stamped)
Vise Grip (Peterson/DeWitt) #10CR pliers
unknown 8" linesman pliers (in the dark I thought they were CL's)
L.S. Starrett caliper/gauge
unknown (marked JMH) caliper/gauge
_______(both gauges rust frozen, soaking in CLR overnight)

Pic #5 & 6 -
Mystery Box

Dowl-It doweling jig
Goodell 1 1/4" scraper
box full of asst. dowels

Pic #7 -
2 - 24" Alum channel clamps
1 - 50" Alum channel clamp

Years ago I bought some alum channel clamps from Woodworker's Warehouse. I have a pair of 18", a pair of 36", and one 50". I always meant to go back and get at least one more 50" to make up a pair, but WW disappeared in the blink of an eye and I didn't want to bother hunting down a clamp at retail + shipping.

Moral of the story - Patience (and Procrastination !) pay off. :bounce:

(It only took 20 years !) :lol_hitti

Stopped at an estate sale this morning. I've been wanting one of these torches to play with for a while now, it's dated 1921. Paid $12 for it, I'm sure I could have waited until half off tomorrow and it would have still been there. Might go back for a few other things anyway. The snips and the Snap-On 3/8 wobble were a buck each, that makes me feel like I did better over all.

Cleaned things up just a bit and started on the torch. It needs a new pump cup, and I haven't been able to get the piece apart (only tried gently so far). I'll start a thread for those questions.

So I had several stops planned for today but the first one was so good when I left I just started going back home! Plus it was close for a change, usually I have to drive 25 miles for garage sales but this ne was only 8 miles away.
This sale was a clean out the house NOW estate sale run by the family. The young guy in the backyard shop wanted to get rid of it or he would have to clean out the shop and it was crammed full. No prices on anything, make a bundle, toss him a price and he usually took it.

Part I
Craftsman 1979 top box, Matco mid box, tool bags, gray plastic box and gray ASO anvil (no markings).
Mac: Screwdrivers, 1/4" drive stubby, S91 wood handle thingy?, ratchets, impact flex sockets, tie rod adjuster (on bottom of pic) brass drift, puller (upper right) and other odds and ends.
Matco: Most of a deep socket set, ugly but usable flex wrench, odd wrenches.
Plomb/Proto: Rough Plomb wrench (top) Proto puller point disc, wrench and Snips
Snap On pic 1: Flywheel turner, seal puller, harmonic balancer puller, tube wrenches, Saltus wrench, ratchet wrenches, SAE open/flare wrenches, dist wrench, SAE offset box wrenches, SAE flare crowsfeet, 4 metric flare wrenches, 10 metric box wrenches, 5 SAE combo wrenches.
Snap On pic 2: Dana 44 axle socket, ratchet screwdriver, various sockets and extensions, 1/2" ratchet, 1/4" carb flex adjusting tool, 1/4" flex ratchet, CJ134 tilt steering pin puller, trim prybar, 3 pcs of the 4 pc pick set, brake tools.

Miller lite "race car hood" bar sign.

Back to sorting!

Mac: Screwdrivers, 1/4" drive stubby, S91 wood handle thingy?, ratchets, impact flex sockets, tie rod adjuster (on bottom of pic) brass drift, puller (upper right) and other odds and ends.
Matco: Most of a deep socket set, ugly but usable flex wrench, odd wrenches.
Plomb/Proto: Rough Plomb wrench (top) Proto puller point disc, wrench and Snips

Man, good scores you guys. I can't wait to find a Craftsman block grinder myself!

I had a good day Wednesday but I won't be able to post pics till next week.

I'm at the beach for the weekend so no yard sales for me. It's a good and bad thing haha.

Yesterday's haul, all USA: (1) SK diamond complete set, with my favorite SK logo; (1) small Vise-Grip; (1) Wiss Inlaid 22w 12" upholstery shears, which are quite beefy, and apparently sell for $40 new still to this day; (1) SO sgd480a long flat from 1993; (1) Irwin or Klein flat (not sure); and (1) Warner wallpaper scraper. $12

Here's a haul from a couple of weeks ago, part of my quite long driver phase: (1) Wiss Inlaid #82 12" scissors; (1 of each) SK 81002; Xcelite xst-1010; Torx t15; Mac p202sa; Matco sdm r128. This is my first burgandy Matco driver. I really like the feel of the handles, but no where does it state where they are made. Safe to assume USA? Last but not least, a pair of really cool goggles, steampunk from a pre-steampunk era.

Nice lil air ratchet Waggoner, love the Wiss shears Divine!

30 or so miles round trip today for ****. One advertised sale was not even open 30 minutes after schedule, one heavily advertised tool sale had no tools. I asked the guy where were the tools, he goes "Yeah, I thought about putting them out buuuuut, nah, HAHAHA" and laughed in my face...I wanted to punch him in his face... Same sale I asked the woman if the record player worked, she said yes, needle is just a lil worn so I paid her for it, picked it up and was walking back to the ride when I happened to look down and see there was no needle there at all.

I did pick up a standard Skil saw for $5 on one of the farthest sales, just to say I bought something and mine is missing the blade guard so it wasn't a total loss.

Sales were disappointing today. I spent $4 for a folding chair and 2 self-venting 2-1/2 gal gas cans (old style Blitz's, that aren't made anymore).

Sometimes you win, most times you loose. :dunno:
