Stopped at an estate sale this morning.

Penn State Industries berracuda chuck $20 (like new but missing the locking bars)
This was a big score for me considering I just picked up a lathe last week. Looks like it was used one time, then put away. Three of the adapters have never been unpacked. The missing look bars are just straight steels bars which should be cheap the replace.

BNIB Kreg k3 master system $50.
Don't let the saw dust fool you, it is brand new. Best part about this one, it's for my girlfriend's anniversary present. She has been telling me she wanted one for two years now.

Her gift to me was a trip from Georgia to Pleasanton, California to attend the goodguys west coast nationals car show next month. We don't get many tradional hot rods here in Georgia(they are here, just stay in hiding it seems). This particular show we are attending is limited to pre 72' and will have as many as 3500 cars with a focus on pre war hot rods.

Nice finds! I do miss living in central California, car show practically every weekend within 2 hour driving distance! I have been to that show, should be great!

Matco door tool $3 on Thursday.
This morning got the WD40, Craftsman magnetic tray, Snap-On distributor wrench (S6405), Craftsman awl and -V- sockets (SAE and metric, 1/2 and 1/4), and one SK, one Proto, and one Snap-On socket for $15.
Hit an estate sale after that and got everything on the right for $38 total. 1/3 HP block grinder, hip box w/tray, and all of the pliers/screwdrivers. Everything except the strippers and the hard handle pliers are 'Bell System' (guy looked like he worked there) for our resident collector. The strippers are Ideal Stripmaster USA and the small pliers are Vacuum Grip No. 4 (I can't find any record of these anywhere).

The floor and staircase in your garage/shop sure are fancy

If you think that is nice, you should really see my living room! :lol_hitti

So as far as Craftsman products go - this one isn't really made that well? Sorry to disappoint. It could very well have been some sort of stand - maybe for a table saw or the like. But there are no mounting holes, so maybe not. I can't see it being used to support a drill press. The top doesn't flex a lot, but I would not want to use it for anything more than a shelf. Whatever would have sat on it needed to bear down on the outside edges. It has ridges along the front and sides. Maybe there was an accessory wood top. The drawers do not lock, but it does have a little metal clip you can insert to keep them from opening. It is screwed together like it could have been flat packed. Drawers do not have guides. The only other one I've seen was a month or so ago in the post where that guy had inherited all that NOS looking Blackhawk stuff from his Grandpa. His looked brand new.

Maybe it is just a utility cart? It came out of a textile factory and was stuffed with antique sewing machine parts in the craigslist ad.

Oh, you got Nine's motor running now! :drool: He apparently also has a fetish for things you can carry stuff ON.

There are two drawers and a big hole at the bottom for me to "put things in", not to mention I could carry stuff on it, how much better could it be? :willy_nil

If that were mine, you'd see the bed next to it in the pics :lol_hitti

And it came with sewing stuff? This thing just keeps getting better!! Looks like a standard mechanic cart but from back in the day. Thanks for the pics, just don't abuse it or I will track you down ;) :lol:

Would that be the official Heritage logo craftsman nightstand? :dunno: I don't have access to the craftsman catalogs ATM, otherwise I would dig you up a catalog scan. I remember seeing those in there as a multipurpose stand/cart.

Yes, I use a 5 drawer lateral file cabinet for my dresser so it would fit right in, until I find a suitable Heritage logo dresser that is.. :evil:

I've been looking for a deal on an old plastic truck tool box for a while to mount over the front of my flat bed trailer. Found a good deal on this Tuff Box in CL yesterday for $20. No keys but latches do work fine and I can change the locks or add a hasp if needed.

Got this load of tools off a guy on Craigslist for $30. All of it is Klein, Proto, US made Craftsman or Channellock.
Some of it is pro grade insulated Klein tools. All said this stuff would have totalled around $600 new and I may sell the specialty wrenches to recoup the $30 I spent.

CoPilot: there was some serious time and effort put into that little piece of RR track. it won't work like a real anvil, but dang that is a nice one to put on a bench to do some of your cold steel shaping. good find.

All: i picked up this little 1/4 inch set of Vanadium sockets in the metal container. the seller also threw in the working crescent wrench that is a Craftsman made in China and maybe 2 inches long.

is Vanadium a Craftsman or do tell?

Gotta post this garage sale find. Believe it or not, this chunk of steel started life as a section of railroad rail and somebody went to great lengths to transform it into an anvil. The top has been ground or milled flat and I love all of the work that they put into shaping the horn and table. It even has hardie and pritchel holes! I've seen my share of rail anvils, but this one is by far the nicest I've personally run across. Gotta get multiple layers of peeling paint off the base and wire wheel off any residual rust, but that shouldn't be hard. The best part is that $10 brought it home.

Wow, someone put a lot of work into that one.

Copilot, that is near identical to one I looked at a month or so ago. Great looking piece for light bench work, but he though he had a real vise, so he passed on my offer, which was exactly what you paid for yours!

I wonder of someone made small anvils like that for a time out of old rails? :dunno:

There is a RR track anvil thread around you should add that with before and after pics! :beer:

This is my second post in this thread. I hope I'm not addicted.

Happened upon an estate sale on the way back from my wife's new employment. No tools, other than a middling Skil brand power drill and some homeowner-grade power saws from the 1960's, which I wasn't interested in. But did come home with the following which we will make useful:

Stanley bow saw, Made in Sweden;
Deer Off in USA poly pump bottle (just wanted it for the bottle);
2 full cans of Off! (can never have enough in NJ);
Wasp and hornet spray;
BNIB Garmin GPS mount (now, won't have to switch mounts between cars);
new Emile Henry (France) pie dish ($40 new);
Nespresso Aeroccino milk frother, unused ($99 at Williams-Sonoma)
new plastic tub with attached lid (perfect for our recylables).

$20 for all.

Went to an estate sale this morning. Numbers at 7am, I showed up 20min early and still ended up w/# 89. Some of the earlybirds were camped out a 4:30am ! The door opened at 9am and they let the first 50 people in. Then only called 2 numbers at a time after. By the time I got in, most of the tools were gone, and what was left was junk. I had to stand there and watch a 3" Sampson vise walk past me. Then a 4" vintage Columbian. Then a foot powered grinder. Then ........

It was depressing.
By the time I was leaving, they were handing out numbers in the 200's

I only ended up spending $5 on some scraps.

9"x13" metal tray
small tub 'o pegboard hooks
pegboard screwdriver rack
a coil of 18ga (?) wire
grommet anvil & striker
no-name screwdriver (it was covered in greasy grit, I took a chance that it was a Matco but no joy)
Craftsman Vanadium 6" needle-nose pliers
Delta Specialty Co. miter gauge (didn't realize until I got home that the cast swivel pin was broken off)

After that, I had to spend the afternoon at the DOT/RMV.

Oh, well. Maybe tomorrow will be better. :dunno:

Good finds guys, I slept in after watching half of the BR Sheriff dept and unmarked detectives swarm the neighbors house. Still unsure wtf went on but they took an older model Ford truck, old riding lawnmower, old generator, old pressure washer, what looked like a small trophy in a ziplock bag and a big *** brand new flat screen tv. The home owner was shaking hands with the police when they left so apparently he's not in any trouble. :dunno:
