.... and went to the last day of the Estate Sale from friday. I spent some time digging and filled another bag full of stuff for $25.

Great stuff. Great price. Hard to believe that these were not bought the first two days.

That could be anywhere from the 50's to 90. It says West Germany which became unified in 1990. Just a thought, looks cool though.

The bar is new as well as the chain. That is easy to see. But the saw itself is 50's to early 60's. I have seen some 60's Sthil saws and they are newer design than this one. It is one of the first ones made by sthil.

Stop #1 Today, the barn sale around the corner from me that they do in spring/fall... back in Spring I was talking to a guy who had a lot more tools at home to sell, but with the rain yesterday, he didn't show up today... Still did OK...

Real old Union Tool Box

And some WTF's... like that big long thing, its mark Craftsman, F Circle maker... has a drill brace end on one side, and a female socket end on the other... maybe to run 1/2" sockets on an extension with a brace?

Those Chrome Pliers... WTF?

That, I don't know if I want to keep or sell... it's cool, and goes with my 2 Block's, but don't know if I'd ever actually use it.

And a broken 1/4" socket box with some Penen's goodies in it.

Next stop... 100-House Yard Sale! In my Ex's neighborhood! You know you're in the wrong neighborhood when more people are selling golf clubs than tools... walked about a mile around the neighborhood, found 1 no name table saw, and a Crowntop box.... yea...

Then, my old faithful flea market.....

Guy # 1, $8, thought I did good til I realized I bought 4 of the identical Thorsen socket....

Guy #2 was interesting, never saw him there before... and barely spoke english. But, he did have some gems and had no idea of brand / pricing / age. Wanted to sell me a box of half junk for $50, I told him no, half of it's junk, I'll dig out what I want and throw an offer out.... And I did, took 1/4 of what he had for $25. Some Fleet, some Thorsen, some Cornwell... and two pieces that confused me....

...I don't recall ever seeing anything about these... Did the =Craftsman= Logo begin with New Britain?!? I thought it began with the V's....

thanks for all the feedback guys. i usually only buy these type of things to use unless something is super rare and not what I need then I will buy to resell. this saw has a lot of power cut up some small black Walnut limbs with it today. found out on arborist forum that this is a fairly common older saw. parts are pretty easy to get still too! I will be keeping this to use around house for lite work I won't beat or work it to death. although I did see a fully restored stihl 08 sell for almost 500$ on eBay sold items search!

From an Estate Sale and Craiglisting... I've been hunting down that 1/2 RHFT Flex for years and finally stumbled upon one and they had no idea what it was. I'm not positive, but I think that's all the wrench racks Craftsman made.

Your missing the combo racks, the ones with the same number on each side. I have 8, all different.

I'm BONNEY-FIDE!

Picked up these Bonney boxes and tools. It wasn't a steal at a couple bills, but still a good deal for the boxes, a combo and open wrench set plus partial box end sets and sockets. Seller had the original receipt when he purchased it in 1976. He has more Bonney stuff that he's not ready to part with, but said I could have it when it's for sale.

These are Triangle era, and the wrenches feel really nice. Quality tools for sure. Anyone know who would have made the boxes? And, now I have to decide whether to restore them or not ...

Also from this weekend, a nice little CL haul. Everything you see here for $45.

Some nice old power tools here. I could have taken more off his hands as well for nothing, but I was happy.

The bench grinder is interesting. It's a "Craft King" model 800, sold by E.J. Korvettes. Anyone remember that place? Korvettes was a mid-century forerunner to Walmart that sold all kinds of stuff including power tools. This is a solid little unit and runs perfectly. It's better than the bench grinder I had (I didn't own one). There's no CoO indication, however, and the limited information on the internet says that Korvette power tools were made in the USA. Can anyone confirm that?

Other highlights of course are the Skil HD Drill, Milwaukee drill, Weller soldering gun and various bits including some big Wiss fabric scissors.

The first one is a Saw-Set. It's used for setting the angle of the teeth on a handsaw before sharpening. The one in the 5th picture tells you what it is right on it, it's a Screw Pitch Gauge (but don't ask me how to used it :dunno: ).

Yesterdays sale was all Montgomery Ward's Powr Kraft. Somebody beat me to the ratchets and left the blow mold cases with just the sockets, so I passed on them.

Odd push nut driver and nut grabber screwdriver. The 8 inch adjustable was made in Japan with nice chrome, reminds me of early Kleins and a locking version 6 inch as well a pair of vice grips.

If you ever have something that was missing a bolt or you have the bolt but need to buy a few more to match, that tool will save you lots of aggravation.

Is that screw you need 10-24 or 10-32? Do you really want to make 2 stops at the hardware store on your day off? Just start matching up the little blades until you find the one that fits snugly. It should have number marked in Threads Per Inch then just measure the diameter of the screw.

I use mine often and it saves you lots of time and frustration.

Pick out a nut or bolt and find the gauge that mesh's with the threads; whatever the pitch number is on the one that matches is the threads per inch for that fastener.

I'm regretting a decision made over the weekend.

Last spring I found a stamped metal box marked Onli-1, King Tool Co, Asbury Park NJ.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=180993&highlight=onli-1

Over the weekend at the FM I actually found a complete Onli-1 Tool set and DIDN'T BUY IT! I didn't even ask how much! I just don't NEED it and wouldn't use it. I've been kicking myself for the last 36 hours - regretting the decision.

I might have to go back to the FM next week and hope the guy is back again.

Don't live in regret!

Cheers

Jim

Cool box, take a picture of the drawer slides and post it on here. I remember someone else having a Bonney box and it was of different construction :headscrat:

I'll ask, but I'm almost certain he doesn't.

:+1:

The drawer divider/stiffener leans me towards MBC... :dunno:

Here are a couple pics of the slides. They have an outer clip that's easy to release without needing any special tool. Any ideas of the maker?

Here's a pic of an "MBC" stamp I found on the back of that WWII era Blackhawk box I picked up a couple weeks ago. So there's more evidence of MBC making boxes for Blackhawk as well.

Pete, is that a thumbs down then? I put it in the kitchen drawer as a handy go-to! So far it has done some real damage to the thumb tacks holding up a few Amish pot holders.

No, just the observation that very little comes packed in wooden crates anymore, and a box cutter works better for their cardboard replacements. Almost all produce came in wood crates at one time and the tops had to be pried off. It would be handy to have around the house.

Not a garage sale or estate sale but kind of a hand me down.

My Father in Law's father used to be a mechanic as he worked on airplanes in the WW2 and then came home and worked at a automotive shop, then went on his own rebuilding starters/alternators/generators. The FIL had this in his basement and said he thought I would appreciate this box.

You said OP bought in 76 and thought mbc went out of business by then. Its very possible they continue to make that under a different name with a few changes. Idk. I know this much my top chest is a heavy SOB.
Im loving the bottom roller. Awesome set of boxes. What's your plans for them?

Sales have been a bust around here lately. I have managed to pick up a few things over the last month.

First photo has a HF roller, two HF wooden clamps and one Jorgensen, two small heavy-duty Armstrong clamps, a pair of excellent Xcelite screwdrivers all of which cost $1.00 each. The Peterson vise-grip welding clamps cost $5.00, but the Plomb WF-80 wrench was free!

The Starrett 12-1/2" level came in the home-made soldered steel case for $5.00. It has perfect paint and light surface rust on the unprotected surfaces. All the vials are perfect, too!

The magnifier lamp ($10.00) has a glass lens and GE bulb and is a really good one, even if it was made in Taiwan.

The HF #40612 saw stand was also $10.00. It did not come with the saw!

I have another thread going about the P&C obstruction wrench.

Here are some photos:

It looks good to me. Don't "restore" it. Leave it just the grandpa used it. I have "restored" some items that really weren't that bad and now I wish I had left them alone.

The handles on my top box are very similar, though not identical. The front looks very close. I haven't been able to find any stampings but I think MBC seems likely as the maker.

Unfortunately there is some heavy scaling on the back of the boxes and a few spots of heavy rust along the bottom of the cab. I'm definitely going to be restoring them, it's just a question of to what degree. I might try the evaporust on paper towels method to try and preserve the original paint and see how that goes. If it doesn't come out well I'll probably go with a full resto - electrolysis, etc. and a repaint.

BTW, I'm in the process of picking up a 275 gallon IBC tank tote to make a big electrolysis tank for big boxes and body panels for a car I'm restoring.

I tend to agree but SILVER!!!! Makes me want to ask him why. Of course I know why and I know why he painted it as the bottom was missing the original paint but still! Lol

Any tips on bringing a leather handle back to nicer conditions?

If the leather is not completely gone, you can try "udder balm" and if you want to try to gently remove the silver, try wrapping it in a towel soaked in simple green for a few days. The spray paint should come off leaving the original finish.
