Not to break up the vote, my score from CL from this weekend! 10 drawer Montgomery Wards Powr Kraft Tool Box. Couple minor dents to be straightened on the back of the bottom drawers and it could use a good scrubbing otherwise great condition. $60

Jack, I have that same box and it is built GOOD! Out of all the old boxes I've got, rehabbed, and sold, I'm very glad I kept this one. It's a biggun as well. Mines a 12 drawer, but same thing.

That is a very cool toolbox. That is a heck of deal for $60 dollars. You should post pictures in the vintage toolbox thread.

Those are great top boxes. I have the Craftsman version made by Metal Advertising Display Co. Does that on have a mini slider inside the top center drawer?

Mohawk, Your completely right I was very surprised at how beefy it is. I am very glad to have it.
sgs, thanks I'll try to get some better pics up on the vintage toolbox thread in the next couple days.
Outlaw, mini slider? there is nothing in that drawer so I would have to say No.

Alot of good deals this year in this thread. With the year coming to a close, which would you guys consider the "deal of the year"? Any particular one stand above the rest?

Not sure if he posted in here but my you **** of the year goes to that guy who bought an old Porsche tool kit for a pittance which he then sold for thousands of dollars on ebay...

Oh man, that's a tough one... Assuming you mean what I (we) got personally, is it the 6" swivel jaw Parker I got from Carla? (probably the coolest), or the Gerstner oak 11 drawer machinist box just a few weeks ago? (certainly one of the best deals), or what about the pellet guns (several), Hmm; so many things to consider...

For me I think it would be the 5 Lista cabinets with 2 butcherblock and 1 steel top I picked up for $300. Plus they were full of Mustang parts I have been selling.

For me it was a Burr King for $50.

So much cool stuff was got (gotten?) by the GJ this year, it's hard to remember all the awesome finds. It will take a little while to go through 355 pages again. lol

I came across a red SK tool box. Its a hand tool box with two drawers. The only marking's I can find on it are Made In USA, S 4-80, and the traditional green letter, SK tools name plate on the front. Iv'e done some basic research on the internet and I cant seem to find anything. I also have a 1/2" and 3/8" Craftsman Stainless ratchet. Iv'e read a little about the craftsman's, but the Snap-On 1/8" drive set iv'e never seen before, and the Snap-On 1/4" ratchet MV 71 seem's to be military issued? And i'm curious of its age! Any information would be deeply appreciated!

I would guess that the stamped code you found inside is the date code so this was made in 1980. The style of the box seems to line up with that time frame visually as well. Others here may know SO boxes better. Nice find on those ratchets.

I don't think I've ever seen a red box from SK; they were always green...

Great finds! and usuck on those SS ratchets!

Nice ground clamp Emerald. It doesn't look like it's ever been used.

Jack, the slider was a sliding 1/2 tray that slid front to back in the drawer. No clue if it had a specific purpose, but there it is in the craftsman versions.

any better pics of the box in your avatar? has it (and this new one) been posted in the Vintage box thread?

Picked up the Interrapids dial indicator over the weekend. Found the 3/8dr Williams, the 1/4dr Snap-on flex head and the beat up wrench at a garage sale yesterday.

Got these tonight. The bottom one is 30" wide, the top one... I can't remember.

$10, picked them on from someone on one of those Facebook yard sale pages.

Ended up actually giving the guy $20. When I picked them up, he took the $10 and helped me load them up, but mentioned how his wife posted them on there without asking him for a price first. He had offered them to a buddy for $25 and then his wife sold them for $10. Lol. He was appreciative that I offered up the extra $10 without him asking, and I was still glad I got them for that price. Now I can cram all of those craftsman tools that I don't use in them.

I should have added that the 30" length is to allow for handsaws to fit. There should be a section for them, or some kind of catch to hold them inside.

There is a catch inside actually, so that makes perfect sense.

And yeah, there is a metal tray in both of them. In the 30" the tray isn't the full depth, apparently as to not get in the way of the catch. The shorter one has a tray that is the full length and depth of the box.

That carpenters box is cool. You almost never find the tray for that box. I would have paid $20 dollars just for it.

$30 at two second hand stores. Badger and Kidde 20lb Fire extinguishers fully charged and recently inspected. Fiskars scissors, Cman USA nut driver set, staples, faucet repair kit(USA), Mustang grill symbol, Swingline stapler, unknown ball pein, larger hammer shaped like an axe but seems to thick to be an axe, Century (west Germany) lineman pliers, Stanley USA hand plane and a tube repair kit. Pretty happy since I wanted some decent extinguishers for the garage.

Mudman, that thick ax head may have been for splitting kindling out of firewood. any markings on it? what does the eye look like? (hard to tell if it were factory or hand made... I've seen both)

Nice finds!

Good find. Wish I could find that on the local Facebook pages here. All that is around here is clothes and junk.

Outlaw,

There is a capital A with an upside down horseshoe around it. There is also a larger number 4. I think the 4 means 4 pounds since that is what it weighs. Thanks for the assist.

That is the mark of the Atha Tool Company which was eventually acquried by Stanley in the 1913. Production of Atha-marked tools continued for several decades after the Stanley acquisition. They made top-quality striking tools.

It feels quite hefty. Thanks for the info. I wouldn't have guessed it was that old.

Mudman,
Judging from the slim handle, I think that hammer may be a mason's hammer for splitting stones after they have been scored.

Most of the mass is towards the rear of the hammer. Not sure if that sways you as to what it is. I don't envision doing any masonry work but I will try it on fire wood to make kindling. It does have a chip out if it which I would think would be more likely with stone work that splitting wood. Both suggestions seem feasible.

With that skinny handle, I think that it might be a wedge with a handle that's used to hold it in position while someone strikes it with a sledge.

Went to look at a Craigslist toolbox that was better in the pics than real life so I passed. On the way home I decided to hit a few pawn shops.

Stop 1. 24mm Craftsman deep and long C Craftsman Vanadium wrench. $2

Stop 2. Craftsman Pearlitic ***********, Cincinnati wingnut and Craftsman C-clamps and P&C 100 open mechanism 1/4" drive ratchet. $11

Stop 3. Vermont American toolbox with tray, Blackhawk wrench Challenger adapter and wrenches, Craftsman sockets, nutdriver and wrench, Proto deepwell socket, Ridgid USA screwdriver, Snap On Vacuum Grip dykes, Stanley screwdrivers and Xcelite nutdriver. In the background are the Taiwan and China tools that will go back in the toolbox for a garage sale. $13

Nice haul. Are the Fiskars USA made? My dad worked at the Fiskars plant in Spencer Wisconsin off and on to supplement the income from our dairy farm.
