The gray and red saw brings back memories dad had one just like it in the downstairs workbench. Allways wondered what kind of saw that was when growing up at home.

The whatsit double-ended pliers are for pulling spark plug wires while the engine is running, I believe. I have a pair like them, made out of some non-metallic material, so that you don't get shocked while holding them.

Nice haul, by the way.

Those are Phenolic and for the high voltage cartridge type fuses.

I've seen them repeatedly, but never bought a set as I have no plans on working on voltages that high... ever! :3gears:

I believe you are correct...

an old copper fuse remover?

Yep to all of the above. I found a cousin at a sale a few months ago by the Sun Corporation, made from leather! They brought $15 on Ebay.

Also, that Hi-clearance saw is wicked cool!

Stopped at a thirft store on the way home from work and found this on the shelf for $8.95. Are the Penens tools another name made by Proto/Challenger? Just curious if anything in this socket case is actually original to the case?

Right on guys, love talking to like minded people.

He just sent me pics of the table and permission to post it. Here is the table he owns, if anyone knows what this could have been made for post up! It's on heavy casters but lock by foot operated pedal so it sits static when working but can be moved easily. The top has lock pins that allow it to be rotated to access all sides from where you stand. It's about six foot wide with the bins included.

Well, nine4gmc drug me here. After talking to him for a while I could tell that he's a gentleman, scholar, and overall poor judge of character (exhibit A below) :)

Real cool dude, I told him to post up if he gets a chance.

It was great meeting you and the organizer will more than come in handy. Let me know when you want to pick up that 1/2" plate; I've no plans for it at present so its yours whenever you want it.

I bought the "bomb table", a large grinder, a welding table, and a few other items from a garage / storage sale about a year ago. The gentleman said that everything was from a local machine shop (SouthWest Motor Exchange) that he worked at when he was younger and later bought (and either sold / closed subsequently). I think I got the two nicest pieces in his storage (that were for sale) but now wish that I had more time / money to have shopped more.

The grinder originally had a 1.5 HP 3 phase Dayton motor. I don't have 3 phase power and didn't want to rig my belt grinder's VFD up to multiple machines, so I replaced it with a $25 scratch and dent 2 HP 1 phase WEG motor. It'll strip the rust off of anything in no time flat and generally scares me to death.

Riley, that was a GREAT weekend haul! Lots of interesting pieces too! I really like the Snips and the Mac 3/8 Breaker- does it have an inlet in the end of the handle for use as an extension?

I never noticed until you said something. Yes, it does - thanks for the heads-up!

Hey Merc! Glad you decided to join, now hide your wallet from yourself or you will be in trouble! The guys over in the vintage grinder thread would love to see that beast of yours!

Let me know when is best to pick up the plate, I am pretty much free styling this week so I don't have many plans. I think tomorrow I am supposed to go check out an adjustable hospital bed, I want to use it to build an adjustable welding table with the top you have for me. :D

It was great meeting you and glad to have you here, see you soon!

Picked this up from CL after work. Craftsman 103.0803 belt/disc sander and a craftsman router/router table. Both mounted on a craftsman stand. It's missing the table for the disc sander. Anyone have a lead on one for sale? I couldn't pass it up for $25

Thats the same model sander as I have, check my belt sander resto thread if you get a minute and be sure to post there is you restore it! As for the table, check the classifieds, I saw one listed there.

Wasn't exactly a "garage sale," although technically it WAS in a garage. Got a call from a bud who's neighbor needed cash quick. Got the side box/locker and 7 Drawer KRA7008 for $300.

Thanks Mr. P. I guess I know about belt sander Saturday now. Lol. Been looking for one for a good price for a few months now.

thanks much for the offer Wrench. I'll just keep looking around here at the garage sales, etc. I think the hunt for the tools now has become part of the fun. But if there comes a time that I need one fast, I'll certainly consider your offer.

and very impressive vise/stand setup you got.

Stopped at a perpetual "estate sale" yesterday because he claimed in his latest CL ad "We cleaned out 10 storage units full of stuff" (which was a lie) but I digress. Prices are always good because most of his stuff sits outside in the weather. Sometimes it pays to ignore your prejudices ...

I picked up the following for $12.

- Oil can with no markings
- *new* Stanley 14" pipe wrench
- Ridgid offset pipe wrench
- file
- Stanley chisel
- Diamond end cutters
- Craftsman scoring knife
- 3x shorty #2 phillips screwdrivers (1 cman, 2x snap-on)
- Proto 7/16 combo wrench
- Mac Diesel injector puller/pry bar

I am thinking about going back and purchasing his pile of Disston hand saws that will go to rot if left to the weather much longer ($1ea).

Good stuff Rileysan!

I hit an estate sale early this morning listed as "garage full of tools, busting at the seams"... yeah, not so but I did get this pile for $6. 24" bar clamps looks like they were never used but surface rusted, Eagle oil can(my first trigger pump style), 3/4 can of silicone spray, three plastic drill gauges, Stanley 25' tape and a single burner for the shop.
02141.jpg

Left there and stopped by another sale that said it was the second weekend sale due to having so much stuff, IDK how I missed the first one but it was 3 weeks ago and seeing what was left, I bet they had some cool stuff. Unfortunately, everything was airport prices(sky high)....I did get a 12' long stick of 4x4x1/4" box tube for $38.76:)wtf:) to use for legs on my upcoming welding table build so it wasn't a total loss.
The lady in front of me spent $117.50 on a small basket of old *** tools that IMO were worth about $20-25 AT MOST. I was in shock and awe, not to mention it took the poor guy about 20 minutes to write each tool and price down, then proceed to add them up in groups of 4-5 by pen, then double check with the calculator. I didn't even waste my time going inside after seeing the outdoor ****. They wanted $375 for a booty *** Craftsman RAS, $5-10 for adjustable wrenches and $3-5 for screwdrivers with only a few Craftsman, the rest was China or worse.:headshake

I'm not gunna pull any punches here ... you ****! I have been in the market for this style of bar clamps for months, but refuse to pay more than $5/ea. The burner is perfect for canners (my wife has two). Well done!

Thanks Brian, the clamps do not appear to have a brand name but they are all model 6665-24 and have faded price tags so I can't make out a store name or price. I'm thinking they are lightweight duty but for the price I could not complain .

I've been looking for bar clamps like that as well. Great score today. And funny story too.

Nine, I was out of town working today and on the way back I hit the first sale right before they closed. Not that I'd have had time to, but the listing for the second you mentioned made it seem as if anything of interest tool wise was gone. I suppose plenty was still there due to the high prices.

Anyhoo, I don't think I did as well as you but for $9 I think I did okay. The hoe, drill bit extension, and plane are all USA. The stripper is cheap but will be a good loaner or to keep at my mother in law's house so I don't have to pack my good one. I'm also a sucker for carbon steel knives, especially Old Hickory.

I had my hands on everything in your first picture this morning but settled on the $6 worth I picked up. Lake Northshore... The guy was willing to wheel and deal there whereas the second sale he wouldn't even cut $0.50 off the womans $117.50 tab in front of me and had to break a roll of pennies to give me change for my $38.76...First time I ever got pennies back as change from a garage sale. :lol_hitti

OOH, Merc, they did have an extremely huge old aluminum case chainsaw at the second one I was going to send you a pic but got distracted by the high prices on everything. There was probably 10-15 thousand items under a 1500 sq ft covered area and a couple workshops full of things too but like I said, Craftsman was the best name and prices were high for even that. I thought I could look around and find a steal on some kind of tool but nope. Even checked ebay on a few fly reels and ebay was 25% cheaper including shipping, blew my mind...

Attended one estate sale today - way out in the countryside, so it wasn't crowded at all. I think I did OK for $23.00.

Proto 5200AB Tool Box with all Proto tools that came with it plus a number of SK 3/8" sockets and SK 1/4" sockets, 13 1/2" toolbox saw, WORTH drawknife, vintage Norton oilstone in great condition, Pro-Classic bristle paint brush, Dremel cut-off package. The pics describe the rest.

Sales like that second one of yours really make me shake my head in wonder at the people running it. And if you had even tried to school them on the real value of an item they would probably argue with you to no end. Good job finding some deals though especially those clamps.

It was nuts rmalkow, the lady in front of me had her friend with her and her friend mentioned checking out a small metal wagon wheel that was there and being shocked at the $300 price tag. The check out guy just rolled his eyes at her. The rusty wheel was worth scrap price imo, it was not even a real wagon wheel just a round metal cart wheel that had rusted up something serious from being left out behind the outbuilding for decades.

The chainsaw sounds interesting but given the rest of your comments about the sale, I'm not sure if it's worth the gas money. It wasn't a two man saw, by any chance, was it? If so or if it was a vintage Poulan I'm all over it one way or another but otherwise may just be a wall hanger.

The listing on EstateSales.net doesn't mention a discount for tomorrow or Saturday. Was there any sign posted or verbal mention of a discount for the second / third day? Assuming they weren't charging tax, how in the heck was something labeled to the nearest quarter (or in some extreme cases, nickel / dime)? Stinks when you have to walk away from a great find but some people think an estate sale = an antique shop. Most of these tend to have the same "found items" at multiple, subsequent sales.

I haven't posted in a while. I have been to a bunch of sales without to much to show for it. I did find this Wheeler Rex shut off tool and two Starrett Dial indicators for $18.I also picked up these Coleman lanterns for $5 bucks each. I really don't know why I bought them, with the lamps I already have I must have about 15 of them.
