Likely the last grab of 2015 for me:

A like-new Snap-On 3/8" Breaker Bar F-10-HG with "E" (1944) date code. 8.25" end to end. $12

IMG_1831.jpg

I really like this simply because the hammer is rotated 45 degrees. Unusual breaker bar!

All: while i didn't post a lot this year on this thread i do lurk quite a bit and enjoy looking at all of your finds. some are just amazing no matter what you paid for it.

well i'll end the year for me with one last Craigslist find which were many for sure. i didn't really NEED another Ryobi 18v chainsaw, but this one was advertised as new and never used. i already own one and pretty sure that Ryobi quit making this color for their 18v tools maybe 5 years ago or longer. i already own one and love it.

this little chainsaw works as good and maybe better than all the gas powered ones that i've owned which were several and not cheap ones either. if you need something cut less than 8 or 10 inches and have one of the newer batteries that hold about a 2 hour charge then this it the tool. i need to build a fence this spring/summer and have a lot of 6 x 6's and some 8 x 8's to cut and these 2 Ryobi chainsaws should do the job. i won't mention price, but i probably got a good deal. ;)

I started a New Years Resolution thread over in Free Parking that is already sounding like a good idea so here's the link if you want to post some or just razz one of the guys that has. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=315276

here's to a great 2016 and once again thanks Nines and good luck Jake.

First contribution and I'm pretty happy with it. Stopped by a couple pawn shops today and picked up an almost complete 1/4 socket set, some Craftsman ratchet wrenches, a 3/4-11/16 Williams Superwrench, older 5/8 inch Craftsman socket, 3/16 & 5/16 SK sockets, craftsman adaptor, and an older 13mm Mac. Not bad for $13.

I saw the Super wrench and didn't have the heart to see it waste away in there. I'm sure somebody on here would want it. I also picked up a beat up SK 3/8 drive ratchet. The head is pretty sloppy and might need a new retainer ring.

Had no idea that it has hard to find. I grabbed it because the condition was nice, it appeared to be wartime vintage, and the price seemed reasonable. The Snap-On stuff from that time period always feels pretty bomb-proof. This breaker is still very nice and tight, and I suspect it didn't see much use.

I have one, and when I got it, it was still in military packing and full of cosmoline. The surplus store had a 5 gallon bucket full of them.

From an on-line auction last night - spent $7.00. (Vise was not part of the lot)

I spied something in this lot that looked familiar.

Does it fit? You betcha!

But I would like some help in identifying this tem (missing one cutter).

I picked up a nice old wooden box a few weeks ago - QS oak and fancy hinges, with part of one hinge missing. I'm sure that somewhere in the corporate body of knowledge on this forum, there is someone who knows someone else who might be able to make a new part of the hinge. If so, please message me.

3/8 Breakers are relatively easy, Its that extension pocket in the handle that is hard to find. lots of returns with broken out ends due to people thinking it was to put in an extension to use as a cheater.... That's probably also why no one still makes them that way; Too many returns on warranty...

I have quite a few in 1/2 drive very few in 3/8, and never see one in 1/4... Even 1/4 drive handles (screwdriver type) with a back end drive are hard to find.

BF, take the "good" one off and lay it on some sheet brass, and lay it out. Then a lot of patient work with a fine coping saw... and hand filing....

As well as a 1-1/4 Challenger USA socket. And 3/8 drive 1" socket which was hard to find.

First up is an Air force foot locker. Complete with uniform and a bunch of personal papers and letters. It seems that he joined up middle 50's and served until late 60's.

aa2a230d3a002a41608167ffb0a6ccaa.jpg

The paperwork documents his letters from his wife through witnesses to infidelity and divorce. I will not be sharing any of that. Also some other small mementos.

Next box is a tool chest.

I will keep the chest and some of the tools but won't know which until I have been through them.

Happy hunting for new year.

Gents, it's been a really fun year. I found a lot of neat stuff, motivated by this thread in part, and I learned a lot, too. Even made a few friends. My own favorite find of the year was the Craftsman/Atlas lathe in August, which I used for the first time on Tuesday. From others, it was the many Wilton bullet vises that seem to litter the country everywhere but here.

Great finds, gang. I've got a purchase lined up for tomorrow evening, but I'm starting to run out if room again. I will be posting very little next year.

Good hunting to everyone else next year!

Some nice last minute finds guys!

I did a bit of looking at pawn shops and antique stores today. I found a Snap On 1/2 flex head speed handle but someone cut off the top half and they still wanted $20 for it. Pass!

I came even closer to buying a Craftsman Crown labeled reel mower set up for a motor for $35. It was probably late 50's early 60's but would end up being a display piece and I passed.

So unless something jumps up in the next few hours looks like nothing else for me this year!

What Brand was the 1" in 3/8? The only brand I've found that big has been Indestro... :dunno:

I got nothing to close the year out...

Craptain, the Air Force guy was a Master Sergeant otherwise known as an E-7. He has 6 stripes, Airman Basic has no stripes. If you decoded his ribbon rack you could tell a lot about him.

Outlaw, Craftsman did have 1" in 3/8 drive a while back, I purchased it direct from the store.

Looks like some good deals to be had by everyone!!

I've been out of the game the past couple of months, just working on stuff around the house and not a lot of sales to be seen around here worth my time.

So to the New Year and hope everyone has a nice night!!

.

I knew that from paperwork. But I need to take the ribbons to a friend who knows these things. It will all be going to auction. But I don't know what to do with the paperwork. This guy could still be alive and there is some very personal stuff. However I need to sell some of it to establish provenance. A balancing act to be sure.

It was looking bad for me too Outlaw, I thought I was going to go out with a fizzle but thanks to Merc, I'm going out with a BANG!!

So, Merc hits me up at noon with a message saying there is a nice sale close by me. I get done what I'm doing and check out the ad, sure enough, there is a sale right down the road and it not only mentions tools, it mentions that it was an upholstery business!! The sewing machines had sold unfortunately or that would have been the **** of the century... I inquired about a button press and the guy said if it was a snake it would have bit me... I was standing right in front of it facing away from it...d'oh... I start making a pile but it's dark in there and they are closing in mere minutes. I end up with a Proto 1/2" ratchet, 3/8 Thorsen and Williams ratchets, webbing pliers, bunch of button dies and cutters for the button press, bunch of button blanks, BFH, material sample charts and rolls of seat springs. The button press is a Handy model 20 on a cool *** old cabinet, there are boxes and cases of button blanks in the cabinet too. He started pricing things and ended up at $47 total for everything... I gave him $60 and thanked him, told him I would be back tomorrow when they reopen to dig through the drawers for more specialty tools etc.
You should see what Merc got, post up dude! Thanks for the heads up!!

Really Nines, how many sewing machines do you need? Just as well they were gone. You still did good. You could be the last You **** of the year. Unless someone from left coast pipes up.
Oh yeah I implied but let me say You ****.

Good to see that you found some things...next time I'll know what that button press is! Was glad to assist, I like to think of myself as Igor, but I tend to drool a bit more and have a slightly more pronounced hump. :)

From what I heard when I got there, this sale was pretty absurd. Guys grabbing Snap On, SK, Proto, etc. by the crate fulls and running out of the door. I got there around lunch time and it appears that I was the first of the bottom feeders...plenty of USA Craftsman stuff left! I was able to snag:

Estwing rubber mallet
True Temper blacksmith hammer
16 Craftsman combination wrenches
6 Craftsman midget wrenches
2 Craftsman double open end wrenches
3 Craftsman double box end wrenches
5 Craftsman double box end ratcheting metric wrenches
Craftsman screw extracter set
3 Craftsman punches / chisels
Craftsman pry bar
Craftman 1/2 stainless ratchet (Always wanted one!)
Craftsman 1/2 HP commercial block grinder with stand (needs a lot of parts but runs great and smooth)
Ohio Forge grinder
Williams 1/2" SuperRatchet
Wright 1/4" ratchet
Thorsen 1/4" ratchet
V block
Proto 3/8" breaker bar
Proto 345 hack saw
Thread checker set / index (not sure of what to call it, but I've NEEDED one of these)
Starret punch set with wooden case
3 Snap On / Allen sets
Couple of "pointy" pieces I can't ID
Clesco three jaw Puller
3/4" drive socket set, ratchet, extension, and 1/2" adapter (Taiwan)
1/2 swivel impact set (Japan)
Innova 3320 multimeter
Ideal 61-360 multimeter

It was a good week; Wednesday I hit up a pawn shop that Nine mentioned to me and picked up a nice set of double box end Craftsman USA wrenches and a Craftsman USA 3/4" breaker bar

DS2.jpg

For the week I spent a little over a bill on all of this so I'm very happy. Going back two weeks, I did even better. Although I love hand tools and get the most utility out of them, I'm drawn to collect more dangerous things like chainsaws and knives. I picked these up for a song with the intent to resell, but will likely keep them. May not be the most relevant, but when I'm in the woods these are useful tools and man are they purty and sharp (there's no hair left on my forearms)

DS12.jpg

To revisit the joint garage sale I had with None, I made out like a bandit and sold <literally> everything I wanted sell except for a HF 44" box...which I sold the following week to a guy who saw it at the garage sale. I ended up making good money, traded for my first "real" anvil, and got some very nice things from Nine:

Vulcan Arm & Hammer 100lb anvil
Craftsman 1/2" torque wrench
Craftsman cantilever tool box
Craftsman 1/3 HP block grinder
3 Craftsman ratchets

Finally, all thanks to Nine for being a great host, and coercing me into joining Garage Journal. Happy New Years, y'all!

Hey thanks Merc, and to be PC, those aren't midget wrenches, they are short people wrenches. ;)

Bluebolt, we will have to find a MEGA-PICK or auction and all gang up on it this year. You are always welcome here.

Thanks for all the posts this year guys, you make this thread what it is! :rocker:
