Now that's a YOU **** deal!

Holy hell I hope you planned the heist well. Pretty bold posting up stuff that you stole.

J/k **** of the year.

So did you buy it from a wife?

[emoji50] My jaw is hanging open...you definitely ****. Pls do provide more details on the sale.

Appreciate the comments. Not a wife. There really aren't any juicy details to this deal besides the price. Showed up, did some more bargaining on the price, loaded it up and hammered down. I guess just a guy needing the money, he's still working somewhere else and that was why I only got speciality tools, he was using the rest.

The box does have a couple dings but still an excellent box by all means. Drawers are clean and slides feel new. The middle part of the side push handle is missing, said the tow truck driver hooked his winch to it and busted it off. If anyone knows how to replace it or where to get one.

I made a trip to Memphis for this deal. I don't know about y'all's roads but ours have turned into massive craters with all the pot holes.
Snap-on krl7023 with hutch and some tools. Really clean, has some grease but should come right off.
The damage, $1200.

Biggest Armstrong I've bought yet, missing swivel pad, looks like the ball has been ground down. The other is a Cincinatti $ 5 for both.

Picked up two bottle jacks for $15. The Craftsman was new in the box. The Land Rover is pretty clean and looks like it wasn't used that much.

Hello again, to all my tool-scrounging buddies. :thumbup:

I haven’t posted much to GJ lately… been swamped with too many commitments. I have been buying tools when I find them; just not quite as often as before, and not posting photos on GJ. Sorry!

Anyway, I went to 2 estate sales down in KY Saturday, on my way to pass out flyers to promote my LUCASVILLE TRADE DAYS events. The first sale had lots of hand tools, and to my surprise, most of them were still there when I arrived about an hour late. (Sorry about the blurred photo…my cell phone battery was too low for flash to work.)

When I looked at the prices, it was soon apparent why. This nice small Littlestown vise was $40. Not bad if you need a vise, but too much for anyone to buy and sell or trade up with.

There was an old belt-driven two-component bench grinder too...but they wanted like $60 for it. And I found a coal shovel in a closet (they make great snow shovels), but it was about $45, IIRC. I saw a nice old scythe on the wall....$75! Lots of Craftsman wrenches were there, and a few of other brands. Prices were too high on most tools (IE: Craftsman wrenches were $5 each; too much for me to pay, unless I happened to need one special wrench to fill out a set). No wonder they still had tools left!

But as you often find with sellers that don’t really know tools very well, some of the other branded tools were cheaper…presumably because they were “off-brand” tools, and not Craftsman. (IE: Snap-On DOE and Williams superrenches plus Proto, and Armstrong screwdrivers were all just $1 each). Screwdrivers are better than they look in the photo. Craftsman driver also $1, but missing bits.

There were a few older car parts in a closet, but again, the sellers didn't know these items very well. For example, they had an old pair of Unity fog lights with amber lenses. Very rusty, with brackets and clamps. But too far gone to save. Yet they wanted like, $75 or so. But there was a very clean hood ornament from a 1949 or 1950 Chevrolet, with no serious pitting, no cracks or damage, and both studs in great shape for $25.

All I got at the 2nd estate sale was 3 super-heavy duty rain suits in adult male sizes for $2 total. Sorry, no pic. :thumbup:

I find that fairly often too, Craftsman overpriced, truck brand tools dirt cheap.

And it's not just estate sales either. I picked up a pair of used early Bronco bumpers for $30 at Pate Swap meet from a auto restoration shop that had put new ones on a customer's Bronco. I found out they were rare early 1966 first year Bronco bumpers which are not reproduced. Sold them for $450 plus shipping on a Bronco forum! :pimpflash

Finally got a miter saw. 9" Rockwell from 60s or 70s, I think. Runs good. I like how the old tools have very little plastic on them. The whole thing is cast iron and cast aluminum. I didn't steal it, but it was a fair price.

I noticed this HF 21gal air compressor on CL this afternoon for $10 and grabbed it up. From the seller description I think it has a scored cylinder or worse but the other parts should be ok. If I can't repair it then it will serve as donor parts for my own HF same model. But I figured a short drive and $10 was worth it.

Here's my haul from this weekends sales:

Garage Sale & WF Flea Market.jpg

A 14" Plomb pipe wrench ($2), 8" Proto Mfd. USA adjustable (.50), 3/8 drive Proto Los Angeles ratchet ($3), 1/4 Drive Proto Professional ratchet (.50), 5/16 Proto Mfd. USA combo wrench (.25), two Blue Point combo wrenches ($1 ea), Proto screwdriver ($1), and Irwin US made Vise Grips (.50). All in all a decent hall, I was particularly happy finding the Proto Los Angeles ratchet in such nice shape.

Straightgrain: I really like your photography. The lighting tone seems so old world, seems very appropriate. I don't know if this is just the way it came out but it looks very nice. :thumbup:

Congrats on some very good finds as well!

Thanks KZ. I took the photo in my closed garage with just an overhead shop light for illumination, I would have prefered more light but I'm glad it was appreciated.

Here are my deals from the local flea market today;
First up is a small Craftsman vice, made in usa, 506.51800. Got it for $22. It is missing a jaw
garage sale001.jpg
Next is this craftsman box, I paid $10 with a few bits and some tools. Wasn't interested in the tools. Gonna re finish it for my dad for fathers day;
garage sale002.jpg
And a few tools, my favorite is the early vice grips. The others are a dura chrome wrench, a vilcheck, and a bonney. Paid $4 for the vice grips, the others $2 for all 3;

All in all not bad deals, maybe better next weekend.

Hit my first yard sale today a half hour before it started. They where wheeling out this gem from the garage. 1985 Honda XL 250r, 3500 original miles. I asked how much, $200. Bought it in a second. They had the pink still. Original owner even drained the gas before storage. Went home, got the wife and some gas(big eye roll when I told her I bought a motorcycle) I put in some fresh gas, air in the tires, kicked it over and drove the damn thing home. The bad news, it was last registered in 1988. Being here in California, it might not even be worth registering, as with penalties and fees it may very well exceed the value of the bike, in which case I will part it out.
DSC_4837.jpg

Of course it started right away. It's a Honda.

I think you should be able to tell the DMV it was in non-operative status, and you shouldn't owe penalties on the registration.

That's a good price just for the Land Rover jack ... This side of the pond even well used examples go for at least a tenner and we probably have a few more of them kicking around. They're a nice 2 stage jack so good for lifting higher than a normal bottle jack. Probably out of a Discovery I'd guess.

You done well :)

Why not sell it outside CA? I sure would not part it out.

Finally got a bench grinder. It's an older Sears Craftsman 1/2 HP 6" diameter. It runs really smooth. I just need a tool rest, one is missing. I got it with the ridiculously heavy stand for $60 from a second hand store.

picked this proto challenger 3/4 socket set up at the local pawn shop yesterday, it was really rusted, but after quality time in a bucket of rust remover and some degreaser they look better and I can actually read the labels. full socket set but it is missing the 15/16, 1 5/16, 1 3/8. the ratchet head is messed up and my Mac dealer already ordered me a warrentied rebuild kit to fix it. what is this set worth? it from 7/8 to 2 3/8 with the ratchet, 3 extensions, and it came with a breaker bar that's Craftsman

I paid $50 for it all.

Is that first item the "rivet forge?" Haven't seen one of those before. I ASSUME that you use this to heat rivets before putting them in steel beams for buildings, etc?

By the way, in your avatar photo, is that a chain driven bench vise, with twin screws?

Yes sir, it is a portable forge. Much smaller than I have seen before and totally self contained. I rescued it from a sale where a couple of 'hipsters' wanted it for a decorative piece for their NY apt. I don't think so... It works perfectly and I want to get it into the hands of someone who who will use it.

Yes your assumption is the same as mine. I assume it was used for rivets but it isn't very big. The question is, do I sell it as is or do I do a complete restore using brass bolts and refinishing the black with stove black?

Thank you for noticing...Yes my avatar is a 7" Fisher Norris double post chain driven vise. 150 lbs. I picked it up recently
