Haha. No sales from this model. It's meant for private use, on the farm etc. The seller bought it and got it working for his dad's farm and then dad bought something else instead.

Got all the pictured items these passed 2 weeks. Hit up a pawn shop in the hood of portland and scored a proto screw driver, snap on 5/8ths combo wrench, various 3/8 drive p&c sockets and a few snappy 9/16ths sockets for $10 total. Also did some horse trading with a member to get the plvmb body hammer, hack saw, socket, proto los angeles long combo wrenches, doe, and plvmb combo and pry bar. The hack saw is a #344. Anybody ever seen this particular style?? It has a blade in it labeled watkins? and also has pins holding the blade in to the saw. Looks like you would have to use a punch to drive the pins out to replace the blade?

Close up of the Watkins blade???

plvmb 344 part number

First buy of 2015 finally happened today and it's a project piece I've wanted for a very long time but could not afford before. This little Gasboy Model 290 gas pump showed up on CL for a reasonable price and I jumped on it. Bad winter weather tonight made it a 4 hour round trip but I'm very happy. Once the weather warms up I'll start the body work and paint process. The internals have already been restored to full working order. With a hose and nozzle this thing could pump fuel tomorrow. ;)

My first buys of 2015.

Craftsman 5196 vise, needs a new handle and some jaw work but the first 519x I have ever seen. After resto it will be a keeper.

The vintage metal workbench it was bolted too (package deal she didn't want break it up). I will do a bit of work on it and post it on Craigslist.

Delta DP 220 drill press, I think this is the slow speed model. Has the big round base so probably 1930's. Has arc of shame, down feed lever is missing, drill stop is missing and motor not running. Will probably get parted out.

$170 total. Not even close to a bargain but I am happy!

This is what I finally got around to collecting Wednesday night, it cost me about $45...

The box is much bigger than I expected, I could not lift it when it was full.

I have had a quick rummage through and found 8 die grinder bits as well as what appears to be a complete 1/2in drive whitworth socket set by Britool (before their name got onto all sorts of cheap ****)

How did I do GJ?

Ruffgeezer, I think you did great for the price. A unique (to me) job box. No wheels on it from appearances so yes I bet it was a heavy one to lift.

Thanks, I will document the process but unfortunately it will have to wait until we thaw out around here. My garage is not that well heated and I already have too many projects moved inside to the basement workshop to drag this guy down there too. At least I can research paint schemes during the cold winter months and make a plan.

BB: you are going to like the way that old Craftsman vise works if the missing handle didn't cause any other issues. the original handle in case you don't want to use the custom one is 10.5 inches long with those Starrett type vise handle ends. Big Caddy has plenty of good examples if you need a few pictures and i think he posted many of them spiffed up a month or so ago in the big vise thread.

RG: I'd probably have paid close to that much for that old tool box without any of the old goodies in it. sweet buy and any more pictures you have maybe post it in the vintage tool box thread because i can't say I've ever seen one like that.

ALL: i picked this up for Free and not sure how it works. i would like a good label maker and any advice to make this one work or any information on how to would be appreciated. it's a DYMO 2300. I need a good label maker for my ongoing "ORGANIZING" project and i'm afraid i'll wear out my hand with the little hand held ones.

Today was a very good day at the estate sales! Managed to get the bulk of this at the mornings first sale in Yipsi. I got there in the dark and only found the place because I saw an old guy on a tractor plowing his driveway when I asked directions he said this was the place! I found the puller set under the work bench and I still have to sort through it to see if any missing parts. The red box is a 3/4dr Snap-on box but the ratchet, extension and universal are the only 3/4dr's there, the rest is 1/2dr. I made it in time to the second sale to get there just as they opened up the garage to pick through a giant Kennedy box he had there.

This unit might be more work than you planned for. I believe you will have to "punch" each character individually. I've been searching for a manual for this unit to no avail. I think the big lever on the right side of the pictures cuts the finished label.

The lever on the bottom "punches" each character.

Then again, I may have them switched.

Did it come with a spool of labels?

Good luck with your organizing project.

I certainly will do once I've got it cleared out a bit more, I'm in two minds with it really. If I were to keep it, I'd fab up a trolley for it to sit on, but I don't know how much use it'd get so perhaps I shall give it a tidy up and pass it along to someone who will get some use or enjoyment from it.

Caesar: I didn't find the roll of labels. I think i found some to buy online, but still looking for the directions or a youtube about it. I think the big lever is for putting the letters and numbers on the tape and the little round knob is the cutter, but you might be right. thanks for looking and appreciate any more information if you or anybody else finds some.

RG: if you weren't across the pond i'm sure i could find something to trade, but unfortunately shipping is probably not an option unless we meet in Iceland to trade suitcases.

Was this the "70 years of Tools" estate sale in Ypsi? I could not make it there today but will try tomorrow to see whats left.

Nice haul there Rickster!

Went to an estate sale and picked up a few small tools .
Craftsman tweezer and ruler, another tweezer and a couple pin vises,Snap On 18" breaker bar and socket (not bad for being 1952!), and Indestro 3/8 socket set missing a couple pieces that I might have around. Came with a couple S-K 1/4 pieces.

all for under $45.

Stopped at a pawn shop too and picked out some decent sockets from Williams, Plomb and Snap On.

uneventful weekend for me so far... but tomorrow I get to help a couple get ready for an estate sale, which means I get first dibs ;)

Monday I believe I'm finally bringing home my grandfathers work bench, my grandma just turned 93 and decided to sell the house and move in with my aunt.

It's been about a month since I've been out to a sale, not counting the machinist treasure trove at the neighbors house, but this is what I found

A friend sent me the email and with nothing better to do, I went down to see what I could find

Everything pictured ran me about 75.00 and that's isn't even all of it. I'll try to shoot the rest later

Everything is Starrett with some Helios, Lufkin, Mitutoyo and B&S thrown for good measure

I think I'm off to a good start this year:evil:

Dang BC, you are in the machinist capital!!!

It's been pretty good around here and sales like this are rare. Especially when it's just a few guys instead of the usual 50 waiting for it to start

There were some toolboxes but I passed on them. One was a Gerstner but had seen much better days while the other was a Gerstner clone that was absolutely amazing. It looked great and the fact that I was made by taking measurments off a similar Gerstner was really amazing.

I just cleaned out both boxes and the tool chests beneath them

Saw this on Craigslist tonight within 20 min of it being posted. Bought it for $50. Been looking for one for a while. Thought about getting a the Husky 1/2 for a while, but this will do quite nicely. From the late 80's

You wouldn't of wanted it. I enjoy a nice project but that box was borderline firewood. On top of that, his prices were way too high.

The second box was a clone and not for sale. It had sentimental value since his grandfather made it

Spent some time digging at the local pawn today, not too bad. 50+ Plvmb, Blackhawk, SK-Wayne, Bonney, Proto / Proto-Challenger sockets, Plvmb, Williams (SR), and Bonney Wrenches, 20" Matco 3/8 extension, 17" SO 3/8 ratchet FLL80, SO 1/2" wobble extension, and 12 Sait grinding discs. Question though, in the second pic, what is that logo??:dunno:

An observation: After digging through that many drawers of sockets, you begin to both spot good ones, and "feel" good ones. Of course the ones I snagged above, you could tell by the feel that they were good, and they were. But, there were a couple brands, some I'm not at all familiar with that simply felt like quality, but I really didn't know what they were. Of them all, the one's labeled "P-F" just felt heavier, thicker and better quality. I ran across 20+ of those, all labeled USA except maybe two that said Taiwan. Anyone know what that is? They also had an 8 digit part number and were labeled similar to proto, but on the bottom of the socket where proto tends to be labeled higher up on the barrel. Other brands the "felt" like quality were Easco, Kraeuter (they felt really hefty), and Mustang. Can anyone tell me anything about those brands?
