I love free stuff. One of the bottom drawers just needed a piece of metal bent and now the thing is fully functional.

Well I am going to give my first "you ****" of the year to Craptain. 50 cents each? Around here that stuff would be 2-5 dollars each!

Second "you ****" goes to Beatcad. I like that box!

Beat: now i have Toolbox envy like you might of had when i posted mine in the vintage or Blackhawk thread. I do like your color and the drawer pattern. for it's size i think that box is one of the heaviest ones i know of.

Outlaw: nice change on the Avitar and best of luck at your first weekend stops of the year.

JJ: free is good especially if what you get looks that nice.

Here are today's Craigslist finds. A crowntop bench grinder stand and a Chas Parker vise. Both in good shape. The vise is being stripped and clear coated next week. Paid $50 for both.

drivesitfar- it's not missing a thing. it even has a key.
that carry box lifts out to gain access to larger tools below it.

Nice score ...........you beat me to that one 'cuz I had to go to PA today and he wouldn't hold it. I did snag a couple Blackhawk tidbits for you though and they're yours when you come over.

My wife is the one that has good scores not me. I only had 2 good scores this year and one was 1920's pyrex that she got for Christmas. The other was a couple of 1965 service station maps. maybe 2015 will be better for me

Well, sort of tool related, I picked up this filing cabinet for use in my home office on New Year's eve. I called as soon as I saw the ad on CL, and went and picked it up. It had been used in a body shop, so it came with a bunch of auto-body related contents, like some dollies, sandpaper, a ton of drill bits, and some other stuff. I will most likely be refinishing it for keeping papers, household tools, and the best part: Those 6 narrow drawers are perfect for my fishing tackle!

dngrmse, perfect example of score right there but technically, it belongs in the 2014 thread :lol_hitti

No worries though, pictures here will get this new thread rolling more so tell us more, are you in to body work? Will the dollies be up for trade soon?

Lonestar, do you have any posts of the service station maps?

Great score Bobcat!!

I have been calling all day about a 10" Milwaukee bench grinder for $75! It even has new, never mounted wheels and lighted eyeshields! Finally get a hold of the guy about 7 PM and he had just sold it. He was in the shop all day and didn't hear my phone calls.

My first of the year. Not a "great" price, but all for $40. Matco Green screwdriver set (I think I'm missing one?), two Williams USA 3/8 extensions, very nice Klein nips, and a Bonney wrench. Waiting on a call this morning to go check out "hundreds of Bonney wrenches......"

Here's my first score for the new year. It's not much, but it's a start. The lower end 90's Craftsman toolbox was being sold seperatly as a top or bottom with tools included. It was way overpriced at $475 total. Most of the tools inside were late Craftsman, or chinese imports.

I paid $15 for the bundle.
Craftsman #371.5180 3-1/2" vise. (made in Japan)
Ionic drafting set. (made in Germany)
Acelite #78CG nippers.
5 - round electronic magnets
Matco SDMR63 screwdriver

Nothing else listed for the weekend yet.

I stopped at a Estate sale around 8:10am, but with 30 people there before it was to open at 9am I just called it off and decided to go back home. If there was anything left from this morning's raid I will get it tomorrow when it's suppose to go 1/2 off price.

Maybe tomorrow might be different.

Jake nice score for $15, never heard of Ionic but I do see K&E sets every now and then.. I scored a CM vise a few hours ago I got him down to $15 for it since I bought a bunch of other items.

Fuller and JH Williams adjustables, Ridge and unknown pipe wrenches, Channellock and baby size, Barcolo and Bell System pliers. Vaco and Quick Wedge screw starters, Knopf voltage tester, and small box with keys, scale rule and multi gauge. All were 50 cents each. All USA.
That's crazy.... Good score.

Couple more pics of the Blackhawk torque wrench. Guess the guy didn't feel the torque indicator was long enough :dunno: I'm going to leave it alone 'cuz it's going to Beatcad since he collects BH stuff and I don't.

Went to a sale that had very little in tools but managed to scrounge up a couple drivers for a buck apiece. A MAC SABINA amber handle and a pre-MAC Mechanics Tool & Forge Co SABINA wood handle.

Just a small haul today. This from the estate of an alarm tech/installer. Klein side cutters, Harris handset, and a couple of punch type tools. If anyone (Jeff Moss?) knows what they are please post. Also a couple of parts boxes with various hardware.

It's that time of year when everybody round here gets those estate sale withdrawls. :eyecrazy:

ONE yard sale today. The HS Flea was closed for winter break as usual in Jan...

$3 got me these: Berg wood chisel handle (Got two candidates for this: decisions, decisions...), "II" & "Sweden" in a red field (the I's are in opposite comers, and the same hallmark is on the blade) on the other wood chisel, Craftsman and Vlchek DBE's, Barcalo and Master Quality (Wards?) DOE's, a pair of SS Italian made tweezers, and that machined piece that IIR goes to some tool of some sort. I've seen them before, in fact I have at least one that is knurled with a couple of those cutouts...

attachment.php

Then I have a question for BEAT, or any other Gerstner knowledgeable people:

Is this one? top opening is about 19-1/4, X 11 deep. Is it an intermediate for a smaller Gerstner? drawers have "Henry" and 1908 (on one) 1914 on the other marked on the sides... Yes the bottoms are metal and there is remnants of felt on the bottom.

Not mine (yet) long ways away also, so may not be...

First post to the site. I've watched but never posted.
Today I found a vise grip I've never seen or heard of. Maybe because I'm new to collecting tools? Went to the flea market today and got a "Pli Rench" by Whale Tool Corp. Any info or owners? They have an adjustable bottom jaw and open and close like brand new vice grips. It says made in New york, USA. Stole them for $5

Outlaw: those wood handle chisels look awesome. i'm not a Gertsner expert by no means, but since i now own 3 of them I've done a bit of research and i'd say the box you are looking at is not one of theirs. it could be an old homemade one with those very stout handles on the side that look like old MBC box handles and with the plywood faces not trimmed. i do like it's style though and i would probably buy it if it was a good price.

Florida: i picked up a few Whale tools last year and i was going to ask the same thing about the vise grip one. does it look like this one which is now in my main toolbox? welcome to the forum and happy to have another member. also when you make a post if you can post pictures with your questions it makes it easier for us to help if we can.

Went to an estate sale at the end of the day looking for bargains. Picked up this vintage drill press for $20. Not that I need another one, but its kinda cool.

I also gathered up a soldering gun, two auger bits and some hose nozzles for another $5.

Raining today, so no flea markets or yard sales. Stopped at a thrift store that gets old tools in it sometimes, snagged:

- Craftsman vintage coping saw for $2.50. Needed one for a project too, funny how deals come along right when you need them!

- no-name pipe vise. Only markings are "No. 1-H" on the baseplate. Very rusty but some wire wheel action and/or Evapo-Rust will fix it right on up. $5 for it.

Blue - Was that the sale in Salem with all the radio vacuum tubes ?

I was there yesterday, some of the prices were high on the first day. But the guy was easy to deal with on untagged items. I saw that DP on the bench in the garage and thought that the price on the tag was a bit high for a 12"(?) DP, but would be a good buy at less. You got it at a great price.

Were the toolboxes still there ? The top was a more modern Craftsman, but I wasn't sure what the vintage bottom roller was. It had odd castors, kinda like a medical cart.

I was interested in the pool table, but didn't have the money or the interest in lifting it.
