Pretty cool Lug. Since I am a retired Marine I have an appreciation for your collection. Do you have any complete kits, like a general mechanics tool kit? ( and for those Smart Alec's in the group: no that doesn't mean the mechanic who works on the Generals jeep):bigun2:

Thanks for the kind words.

Yes, I have completed a few wartime GMTK's. Early war (Motor Vehicle Mechanics Tool-Set) and mid to late war (General Mechanics Tool-Set), which were slightly different.

Here's a few photos of one of them: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=2252296&postcount=730

I am working on another keeper set right now, in fact. Picked up a nice box from Rick Higgins. And a few other pieces (file card, 6" tempered steel rule in 4ths, 8ths, 16ths and 32nds) from other members. Finding the bulk myself.

Re: two bucks at gw

Never heard of action tools

Action was a kind of economy line of Thorsen. There are some mentions and pix in Alloy Artifacts. I have a few Action sockets, maybe a ratchet or two, that I got by accident in batches. I've kept them just because I like the logo.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone seen an Action that was also marked Thorsen? Like some Challengers are marked By Proto.

Not many sales today, got the Monroe Shock absorber stool for $20, $1 for the Gunk engine cleaner and 25 cents for the Johnson paste wax.

Nice scores . . . . Heck, the Gunk can is a keeper, even if empty !! ;)

That's got great character and could be centerpiece can in shadow box of small 3-in-1 oil cans !! :D

I kept busy today. I hit up four sales in two towns that are nowhere near each other. Part of my take from sale #3 was this Craftsman box with the Heritage logo. I couldn't believe it was still there but probably because of the condition. The swivels are there but badly rusted. I didn't intentionally cut them out of the pic though, I was trying to focus on the logo.

Just could not pass it up for $35 with the few tools in the drawers, some Craftsman and Williams pliers, Barcalo wrenches, Snap On pocket magnet, a bunch of files, hardware, and miscellaneous. I just thought the thing was too darn cool.
More finds to post later!

More pics 3bay, is that a work station or what?

A bottom roller. Here's a pic I couldn't resist taking earlier.

I just had the funniest thought of all four wheels soaking at the same time in four separate jars of ATF or something. I'm not too concerned about how it moves. Good enough that it still exists I suppose.

The second and third pic show the lock bar on the side that moves 90 degrees on a track to hold both of the drawers closed.

The last pic is one of two little stoppers on the bottom of each drawer that prevent the drawers from falling out. They retract for removing the drawers which I just did again to clean it out and vacuum the dirt out.

Here's my haul from a local estate sale that was open to early birds this morning.
View media item 47325

The three metal rakes and the Springfield thermometer in the top picture were $12. My son keeps breaking the expensive plastic Lowes rakes that are 30" wide. I'll let him use the metal rakes next fall. The thermometer is neat - it measures down to -60F!!! It was hanging next to the door in the guy's basement workshop and probably never moved much around +60F.

The wheelbarrow (heavy duty 6 cubic-foot size), the trenching spade and the rest of the stuff on the workbench were $50. The Craftsman circle cutter, barrow and spade alone make it a bargain, I think. The hand saw and small hammer are no-names, but I don't have those sized tools in my inventory, so what the hey...

This morning's flea market take-home:

1940's vintage Kennedy hip-roof cantilevered toolbox. Had a leather handle at one time. I’m going to try and replace it and restore the whole box. These were Army Air Corps mechanics boxes. I don’t normally do Air Corps stuff, but this begs a project.

20150117_100243_zps44bfcd8c.jpg

Also this Bonney V series 1/4-drive set.

20150117_095739_zps24578871.jpg

The ratchet is a Snap-On (9/32) and the short extension is unmarked, but the breaker (V26), sliding tee (V17), and long extension (V18) all go with the V6 through V12 marked sockets (typical 40’s mix of 12-, 8-, and 6-point).

Here are some close-ups.

I’ll be looking for the ratchet (V25) to complete the set.

Good stuff BlueBomber, I'd have bought all that too, we've been looking for a wheelbarrow for a while and they are always rusted out when we see them. The kids broke the wide plastic rakes from lowes the first day they used them so we bought the lifetime warranty metal ones and no problems so far.

Tiggi, nice wood working set, any better pics of the flat style vise on the right?

Private, can't wait to see the air corps box refurbed!!

You guys have been rocking it, I have had 0 luck this year for sales or cl...hopefully things pick up soon, I'm dying down here!

3bay - Nice find on the Cman roller, and it's in great shape as well !
Another member found one recently, and I spent some time tracking it down in the catalogs. Here's a scan of the page from the 1949 catalog with your box in it.

Thanks, niner.

Here's a cool period photo of one being used by an Army Air Corps ground crew.

Structurally, my box is in decent shape.

Just one popped rivet to replace.

20150117_143158_zps4ec8f279.jpg

Anyone know of a good source for a repro version of this decal?

20150117_142933_zps471abc2a.jpg

As for the handle, I have an old suitcase with a fat leather handle that I am going to try to cannibalize somehow.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Here’s the same Kennedy hip-roof owned by a friend of mine, this one a Navy application, with the original handle intact.

If you have a custom boot store around, they can whip up a new leather handle easily.
As for the decal, find a pic of one in good condition and have it printed on testers model decal paper that you find at hobby stores.

Thanks. I used a guy from my other hobby (WW2 militaria) for a Blackhawk socket set case decal I did a few years ago, but your idea sounds much easier! And I'll explore the boot shop idea, too.

I really like that cart. I have never seen one like it. I have weakness for the craftsman heritage boxes. That's a great score at 35 dollars.

Headed out to the "Super Duper" garage sale at the Boulder County fairgrounds this morning. I got there right when they opened and within an hour it was getting pretty crowded, but I managed to snag a few good items...

First was a 3/8 Vulcan (B-59) offset flex head ratchet, 1/2 Walden 1160 ratchet, A set of Pexto shears, little hammer of unknown make or use side just has 00 stamped on it all for $8. The 1/4 craftsman =v= 6"flex handle and a 1/4 6" extension (which has no N on the craftsman name engraved into it, is that normal?) $3. My Favorite find of the day was the Art Specialty Co. Flexo drafting lamp. Marked $55 paid $30. And a shot of it at the work bench. L.S.S co Rule and Centering guide - unfortunately these two items are different makes and do not fit together both for $5. Small tail light $2. And a J H Williams No.482 Adjustable face spanner 2".

Went to two sales today. First was a bunch of overpriced junk, or excuse me "antiques". Second I couldn't get to till the afternoon. Plus side, prices were crazy low. Minus, sounds and looked like things were heavily picked over. The place was packed with all sorts of stuff, mostly heavily worn or just plain old worn out. $4 got me the following. The small brown box is a misc NOS craftsman ratchet rebuild kit. The small williams 1/4" ratchet needed a bit of lube, but is now free and working properly. I need to put a new hose on the inflator, but nothing major. The drill didn't work there, but a little wiring and the thing is a torque monster, needs a new cord for safety. Couple things I should have grabbed but forget till I got home. It was very overwhelming, so much stuff. :willy_nil

The cylinder is a 5" square solid slug of steel I need to machine into a bench block for a friend of mine.

I have about 10 of those small tail lights. I was going to rig them up as marker lights on my trailer but the self grounding mount makes it difficult to mount them anywhere and still look good.

A good day! I had not planned on going to sales today but I accidentally underpaid for my items at the estate sale yesterday and figured I would run back and pay them and hit a few more sales.

At the estate sale I found some stuff I missed yesterday, a vintage Monroe Hijackers sign and a NOS 1970's Craftsman paint brush for $8.50. The guy thanked me for being honest for coming back too and paying the difference for yesterday's stuff.

The yard sales were a bust so I hit the flea market.
Craftsman Crown miter clamp, 4 sheave motor pulley, 2 quarts of high speed cutting oil and a Ford script adjustable wrench $10.

7 machinists clamps, 4 Starrett's at top, 2 Lufkins in the middle and 1 no-name on the bottom. $25 for all!

And one of the nicest Craftsman Blocks I have ever acquired, 1/3 HP, very light use with only a few scratches, light, water cup, runs smooth, nice clear eye shields AND all four rubber feet! $60.

Plus I stopped at the U-Auto-Pull-It and picked up a part for $20 that will be an easy $120 sell!

Man you guys are knocking it! I got bubkus today tool wise, ALL I found (One ES only...) was a mostly full can of carb cleaner, and a Plano box full of beads (a lot of them glass and stone...) for a buck total

BB that Monroe stool; does it actually "shock" (Spring) up and down a bit? I seem to remember those doing that. Cool find!

What's that? I don't see a picture

It's still a greasy lump in the back of the truck. 1990's Ford van E350 power steering Saginaw pump bracket for a 460 gas motor. F350 pickup motors got the regular Ford PS pump which *****. 4x4 guys love these things.

I have sat on the ones you are talking about but this one is stationary.

The guy was a district Monroe manager, lots of Monroe stuff there. I actually grabbed the Monroe shocks trash can, my buddy grabbed the stool but we decided to switch.

Thanks. Usually the oldest I see are Crown boxes.

Aww man. They were probably telling stories about the guy who came in and tried to haggle on an already cheap vintage tool box and how one of the women working carried it up from the basement and hit her head on the ceiling! (It's so light I could probably lift it over my head with one hand & she carried it up when I was outside loading the drawers, most likely to get rid of me, LOL!)
There wasn't much when I went and I truly did expect the box to be gone since the sale was my third stop. One guy discovered a nice heavy Berylco ball peen when I was there. Probably got it for a couple bucks.

Nice scores everybody.
Private- nice set, the old wrinkle socket box paint is so cool.
JACK nice find on the Vulcan bent handle.
Z-you scored there.

I got the impression from the photo's there wasn't much there to begin with except your score. I did find a mint old school Armstrong channellock type plier in a remote part of the basement in a pail full of useless stuff. My only purchase of the day other than a partial Action socket set that I bought purely for the metal case.

Now that you mention it a did see one of the ladies with a big bandage on her head.......just kidding......I know that feeling though, many times I had wished I had worn my hard hat in some of those old houses!

Haven't be able to hit many sales, buts here's a small pile.
The plate is a flat surface for sanding I think.
I now have a lifetime supply of electrical lugs.
Went to a ongoing yard sale that is actually a estate sale. The guy is going through his fathers shop. I was invited to look in the shop today, so I'll be going back once he sorts more stuff to sell. He does have a metal lathe, which looked like a south bend, could find any tags.

Came across this Wright , with Spain marking. Must be an alloy, real light.

Other tool finds:
I was shut down last week when I drove all the way to one sale only to find out it was closed due to the weather. I was there, why couldn't they get there? They re-scheduled and I had to go back this week to take a stab at the Craftsman SS ratchet they had pictured. I was probably 12th in line but everybody seemed to run the opposite way I did and I was first at the tool table. Also got this sweet little 1/4 Dayton ratchet. $34 + tax for all here.

The rest of yesterday's finds all pictured below. Some cool stuff including Craftsman blue handle "Electronic" screwdriver and Craftsman wood handle stubby driver, Rusted up Proto 1/2 ratchet, a neat old ice pic, wood chisels.
The last two pics are from last weekend and all of that was $13. They were giving nice deals. Couldn't pass up a $2 Craftsman fiberglass sledge, and after not wanting to let the vise leave the work bench, the estate guy offered it to me for $5.
