i went on tool hunt w/ twertsy this morning. he showed his haul at the top of this page.i wasnt really looking for anything special and only put aside a few wrenches. than we got to the guys 3rd box and thats where all the blackhawks were hiding. i grabbed everything. yeah, some will be doubles or triples or quadruples of stuff i have ,but most is stuff i havent got.
i havent gone thru 'em yet but i will tonight.

Yeah, the guy kept bringing out boxes and the stuff just kept getting better. Disappointed I only filled two empty spots on my 1/2" drive Proto board though!

I went to one local monthly auction Friday night and came home with these two pieces for my personal pleasure and collection.

First is the Arkansas Tooth Pick, a Western W-49 Bowie knife. Not their oldest made but a good example that I can restore and enjoy.


Second was this vintage 1950's era Stromberg Carlson MD-30C microphone with stand. Another nice classic piece to go in my music room area.

RM, Nice finds, esp the Bowie! but it's not really an Ark Toothpick, those are double edged, over-sized, almost a stilletto:

While out grabbing an elliptical I cruised past this second hand store. These were hiding inside. $35. Sliding table will mount on the Shopsmith, somehow. The 1 13/16 socket is missing a tooth. The ratchet will get cleaned up and may have to find a new home...

Is the ratchet, 3/4 or 1"; and Plvmb or Proto?

sounds like fun going to a guy's tool sale with Beat and buying a few old tools. guessing a beer or two might have been involved at your's or Beat's garage while checking out each other's finds or did you split ways after the sale?

Gotcha. I'm actually going to make some display boards, similar to the bit board, for my old SK, other Proto, Plomb, Bonney, Williams and Wright I have.

Be sure to post those up, I just saw the bit boards in another thread here recently and love what you did with them!!!

Technically correct, and I learn yet another fact from GJ. Sometimes the Bowie style is referred to that way in error and I think I picked it up from some movie in the past. But dog gone it Outlaws you realize what you've gone and done here! Now you shown me another knife that I have to buy someday to add to the collection.
Oh well it's only money.

You what they say outlaw, misery loves company! I haven't been to a sale due to either nothing sounds good or was busy that weekend. Next weekend I'm moving a friend due to him selling his house so unless I see an early sale I won't be going again. Oh well I'm enjoying reading about the others finds and learning!

- Yesterday at a yard sale : Cantilever box I picked up for $3. It has an oval sticker, but all I can make out is "Products Co." Has rust. One minor dent.

- Dumpster find this morning : Electric Metal Fan Heater Kenmore Model No. 1247204 (14 amps). It can either blow (1) unheated air or (2) heated air (slower speed on fan). Patents : 1957237 and 2408286. I'm guessing this is from the late 1940s, based on the patent info I found on Google.

Heya drivesitfar,

That is what I call a vintage DYMO embosser!

As that device is quite old it is a bit hard to get some instructions for it, I am afraid that we do not have any manuals or other written guides for the device nor can I try it myself as we do not have any in our office.

However if you tape for it, it should be as easy as choosing the character, punching it into the tape with the wheel and then using the lever on the right to cut it.

We do however have a bunch of newer models of our embossers and also of different other models that might suit you better!

2nd photo, Almost 2 full sets of Proto Challenger long wrenches and some sockets. Just missing 3/4 and 13/16.

Hi Outlaw,

This is going back a few weeks, sorry, but I'm thinking that "Mastery Quality" DOE was made by Bridgeport Hardware and Manufacturing. (They did make MQ wrenches for Ward's, but they marked them Ward's.) It should have a BHM logo (all on top of each other) above the ISN, in quote marks, on the flip side. What are the sizes?

And what are the sizes and markings on the Barcalo?

If you're not attached to either, I may be interested in buying them, depending on the sizes and markings.

I thought they looked a lil thin to be craftsman but they look practically new so good score!

Picked this up this morning at the every Wednesday flea market in Pickens...
The guy said he only wanted $30 bucks for it and when I asked why so cheap, he said because it doesn't have a chuck! ....well I said I'll give you $20 for it since I'd have to get a chuck....and he said he couldn't take that so I offered $25 (split the difference ) and he agreed.
I paid him and he set it in the back of his truck while I went to bring my car around to pick it up. When I got back and loaded it, I asked him if he wanted his $5 lesson?.....He looked at me funny and said yes, so I explained how one of my former bosses once told me to "always know your product" and I removed one of the round side covers (more expensive units have doors) and showed him the chuck!! ....he just laughed and said "damn"
Before I left I jokingly ask "Oh, I forgot to ask if the motor ran?" and he laughed and said "No"....and I said "If it don't, that'll be my $25 lesson" (he had told me earlier that it ran!)
It came with the manual and a 3pc chisel set.....

Thanks for the you ****, Jake but this mortiser is at the bottom of the import food chain. (good thing I only paid $25 for it! )

I played with it a bit this afternoon and the fence/hold down is **** (putting 2 small c-clamps at each end helps).....the downstroke action is stiff and jerky (I can probably work and make that smoother)
The chisels need LOTS of work the get them to basic.....the machine itself would probably do o.k. with some better chisels....

.....But, I've only got $25 in it sooooo......(did I mention that already? )

At that price, even a serviceable bottom feeder deserves a YS. At worst, it will get you by until something better comes along, and you won't be out much money even if you toss it in the scrap pile. When you're done with it, sell it for $35 and you still come out ahead. Win-Win.

Got this S&K socket set at a pawn shop up the road for $5.
The sockets in the socket slot are all S&K, the ones in the lid are Snap-on, then the bottom ones are just random brand.
Also a 1/4 Plomb ratchet that y'all seem to like. Very smooth and works perfect
