Those tops are awesome, did you think to look inside the dumpsters for the cabinets? :)

There were some next to it that I grabbed as well. The base cabinets weren't in great shape and may have been sitting out for a few days, as it's not a route I walk every day.
I did grab one base cabinet and two top cabinets, though. Trying to find another way to use those though. Where I live, we can try and make use of those for free. Might have to go home to do anything with the tops though, just for space reasons.

iirc, the =v= code was used by two or more different socket manufacturers over a couple different periods spanning several years each.

Thanks for the info guys.....never paid attention to the codes or markings on any tools I had til I became a member here! :D

The 3/8" socket is a -G- code
The 5/16" is a -EE-
The 3/16" is a -v-

Which one is the oldest?....What does it all mean???? ;)

My school seems to be cleaning out a few lab rooms, so I grabbed these two table tops from next to the dumpster. These are the heavy duty Fire-proof chemical resistant ones ( I believe) and probably each weighed 80-100 pounds. One is about 7' and the other is probably 6-10" longer.
Grabbed some cabinets as well. Not sure when I'll get to put anything together out of them but glad to have 'em for future use.

Garage/estate sales have been pretty barren here lately so I hit the flea market yesterday.
Hit paydirt with Plomb WF’s, pebbles and standard series, offset DBE, combo’s and a ratty wrench roll with some angle & ignition wrenches.

But the best was a 1/2" Proto-Plomb transition ratchet.

Scored this for a song and also bought some Indestro, proto, and sk sockets, new britian wrenches, a few vlchek pieces and a MAC #3. I accidentally melted the MAC handle a bit and when I emailed their customer service about getting a few other tools I bought new warrantied, I asked if I could purchase a new handle for the screwdriver. I explained it was bought second hand and they offered to replace it at no cost, pretty cool of them!

Suckage on these finds! Loving the transitional ratchet:rocker:

JM,

I bought that Plano in 1977 or 1978 as a child from the outdoor department at Kmart. I still have it. It's packed with fish hooks, bobbers and Rapala lures that don't work very well!

Wahoo. Actually scored a coupe Bonney wrenches and sockets at the local pawn. That's pretty rare around here.

Yeah, mine came with about 8 plastic worms, a handful of rusty hooks, 3 small plastic floats, and a good sized lead sinker....I don't know if that's what came with the box originally?

Not many finds yet, been scanning the paper for estate sales/auctions/yard sales and still nothing checked CL and ebay too but nothing there either guess its so cold and snowy around here no one wants to set up shop, hope thing speed up soon or its gonna get boring quick. But I have been slowly cleaning up an old shed and there's a blacksmiths pedestal vise (don't know maker), a Craftsman bench vise and some other stuff I got to get to soon I'll post pics if when I get them.

JM, I consider myself a tightwad but even I would have been willing to pay more for that score! Not that I wouldn't have haggled first but that's part of the fun, !

Did you buy it new?.....I've seen them online for $33 + for the #7331 set

I'm the tightest of tightwads (I still feel bad that I paid so much for these tools :D)
but I've always been able to get great deals on used tools.....I do haggle a lot, once my wife and I and another couple spent the day at a flea market where I haggled with a guy for an item and got it dirt cheap....afterwards the lady friend said that my style of haggling bordered on baggering!!

I guess I've been bless with this "talent" because I was given such a short ....;)

Hit a few sales today, not much at first.

Older Craftsman ball peen hammer, $3

Davis First Aid kit, full. $5
I will replenish the out of date stuff and mount it in the shop.

Vintage Chicago padlock with key, $2

And my last stop of the day I almost didn't go to......

Lawson hardware 4 drawer section with 3 drawers (2 full, cotter pins and machine screws)
18 drawer cabinet AND 72 hole bolt bin. And what was in the bolt bin? 26 POUNDS of grade 8 bolts!

$100 for all. :bounce:

Since all I wanted of the Lawson stuff was the 4 drawer cabinet and the 3 drawers and hardware I posted the bolt bin and 18 drawer cabinet on Craigslist. I had a few interested parties but the first to actually come out and look at it bought it. We started talking about tools and shops and then he brings up he has a huge vise that started with a "C". Columbian I ask, no he says it's a guys name. Luckily he had pictures and he shows me pictures of a Chas Parker 976 6" monster he had refinished. Looks very nice, correct collar AND the swivel wrench are there, straight handle. He had the pictures on his phone because he got it for free from an oilfield worker buddy and he sent him pictures after re-finishing it. It had so much paint on it that it didn't work and they were scrapping it!

You **** Barry even if you are not on GJ!

Not a killer deal like some of you guys lately but thought these will come in handy pulling pallet nails. Got some fencing pliers, sheet metal cutters and some not sure whats (nippers or nail pullers or farriers tool or blacksmith tool? Google just added confusion) for $20. They are all factory made, a couple of dates 1930s and earlier.

Can I whack the rivets cold to tighten up the pivots? Some have loosened up over the years.

I've been looking for a portaband forever. I found a cheap one on CL a few weeks ago but didn't have time to go look at it for over two weeks and at the price the seller was asking I had little hope it would last. By the time I had a free moment I was sure it would be gone but I called the seller and sure enough, he still had it. The seller runs a small rigging business and told me he was getting rid of some tools that he didn't use. This is not a concept I'm familiar with but I was happy to help him out. It has a few bumps and bruises but works great, the only downside is that Swag Offroad doesn't make a table that fits it but I'm working on a solution.

Oh, I also picked up the B tank (75% full) and a plumber's torch from the same seller. The grand total was $70.

edit: after posting this I noticed that I took a picture of my little portaband next to a giant portaband- the thing under the tarp is a HF band sawmill. :)

Stanley 16 oz amber mallet
Craftsman 3/8 stubby flex ratchet
USA petersen vise grip
ChannelLock Needle Nose
Snap-on Radiator Pick
Snap-on Spark Plug socket

He's got a garage full of machinist stuff, calipers, gauges, drill press, milling machine, lathe etc and a bunch of old hand tools. I had to leave or I would of emptied my wallet. He says he goes to different machine shops that close up and buys them at auction. He's got huge Jacobs Chucks for big drilling machines. Kennedy tool boxes, snap on stuff, he's got a connex box full of tools that i didn't even see.

What happened at the big tool pick adventure?

We got a couple nuggets but for the most part, it was "big tadoo about nothing." :( The old man had passed, only 2 of the 5 outbuildings were still standing, and they were "open air" so the condition of the items was questionable at best. I spent $150 I think for a Reed #25, a Wilton vise, bluepoint grinder, milwaukee porta band, old B&D drill (all work), a Huot machinist box and a bunch of other odds and ends. Fun time, but not nearly as rewarding as we'd hoped. Beat got a couple cool items on the cheap.

Ahhh.. sometimes you eat the bear and sometimes the bear eats you! Out the door 6am to drive 40 mins to an estate sale that opens at 10am. I was number 1 in the door and headed right to garage where one pic showed the corner of a huge top & bottom Snap-on tool box. Soon as enter the garage I see the sign "Not For Sale" and it's all locked up. Total waste of a morning. Well it could'a been a great story........

Ahh, I feel for you. Been there too many times Rickster. In fact a few pop into my mind right now.
1.) Sale with the little roller box facing the wall labeled not for sale, I did find a Snap on ratcheting adapter the greedy workers missed buried in some sawdust on a shelf.
2.) Sale with the tall box and work bench cordoned off, S-K ratchet teasing everyone from the bench. Supposedly the family was keeping it. All they wanted to sell were broken hammers and old grease guns.
3.) The sale with the Snappy box taped off not for sale. Supposedly the box and contents would be offered at a later sale while they sold all the **** tools that day. Never did have a sale again.
4.) One of my favorites, took a ride out into farm country for a sale advertising Snap On box and tool sets for sale. Got there bright and early to find out the guy's sons hadn't picked through the tools yet-once again none of it for sale. I felt like punching that guy in the face because I went far out of my way to see someone who was a true jerk try and sell scrap metal and an old trailer hitch.

I almost think that's better than the sale you get to and Rickster's already rolling the whole toolbox out to his vehicle.
