First stop today said lots of tools, either they sold out early or they were talking about the few rakes and shovels leaned up out back. Anyway, I found a nos craftsman magnetic tool, digital camera, fluorescent light adaptors and a few cool mugs for $5.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1423251065.405326.jpg

Then we hit one that said "lots of snap on, craftsman, tools only sale" but everything was vintage and priced higher than eBay...

We stopped at my fave pawn shop on the way home and I got this clamp and 3/4 Williams ratchet(missing internals) for another $5 so today wasn't a complete bust. Anyone know if I can order a kit for the ratchet?

Ahh, I feel for you. Been there too many times Rickster. In fact a few pop into my mind right now.

I almost think that's better than the sale you get to and Rickster's already rolling the whole toolbox out to his vehicle.

I'm sure that very thing has happened to me. :lol_hitti

Ok, on second thought! :lol_hitti

Just kidding Rickster.

I suppose that depends on if you are Rickster or not! :see:

Good scores Nine. I think kits for that Superratchet have to be found second hand old stock.

Try snap -on, they own the big W now...

I called Snap On Industrial, they said that it was too old for them to carry a kit for... :(

Then in the same sentence they said send it to them and they will replace it for free with a comparable current model, I just want this one working... :dunno: :headscrat

PWR, I'm all  on that blower and for $10, YOU ****!!

Jerry ,
I think you left off an important part of the sentence:
I almost think that's better than the sale you get to 2 hours before it opens and Rickster's already rolling the whole toolbox out to his vehicle. :D

PWR: You could **** a golfball through a garden hose with that 10 dollar deal on the champion blower. That pricing is unheard of anywhere!

i was at the local scrap yard dumping some junk off from work and it was setting to the side. asked them if i could buy it and they said sure! it was dumb luck to find it there and a perfect addition to my under construction blacksmith setup

That's an awesome score on the ratchets, and the hydrant... hell yea I'd drop $100 on that too, how often do you stumble upon them? lol

Lots and lots of great scores lately guys. I have to say that's the first time I've seen a fire hydrant on here!

I found a few small items at the ReStore today . . . a heavy cast iron 2 hole punch that I just had to have. It weighs 3 or more pounds! Found a nice set of Dimalloy slip joints, a Proto Los Angeles double open end wrench, an old Blackhawk double box end wrench, and an old Williams Superrench. That was cool enough, but then I about tripped over this old Crown top box! Not half bad for a quick trip!

Missed posting a cool striker, probably 1970-1980. I'm guessing "carweld" is Carolina Welding Supply?

I would assume that age but up to the 90s. I have some mixed in like that with my collection of strikers, all the other stuff that came with them was mostly from then.

Enjoy the triple flint holder, easy to miss with shaded glasses on.

Took a break from the office for a few minutes on Friday and stopped by an estate sale that advertised "lots of tools". True to their word there were a bunch of tools in the garage but most of them were old Japanese and Taiwanese stuff that wasn't worth much. I did manage to find a plastic Craftsman box full of some decent stuff but somebody had dumped a big bottle of sewing machine oil into it and it was too nasty to dig through in a white dress shirt. I spotted a couple of old Zippo lighters and a small Craftsman crown top box swimming in the ooze so I took a chance and paid my $30. After sorting out the cheap junk and cleaning off the oil here's the good stuff that's left:

IMG_1205_zpsb4b0024e.jpg

2 Craftsman malleable iron C Clamps
A nifty old German made screwdriver set (in the blue pouch)
2 Bonney offset wrenches
2 Bonney tappet wrenches
4 small Bonney DOE wrenches
2 1/2 Bonney extensions
A cool old Western Auto 50' tape measure
Some misc hardware

And, last but not least, a complete, like-knew Craftsman 1/4 RHFT ratchet set. It looks like this set was almost never used, one socket has a little bit of grease in it but everything else is perfect. I've got to say that I like this ratchet quite a bit. I have an Armstrong 3/8 RHFT and while it's decent the 1/4 is awesome. When I use a 1/4 ratchet I tend to naturally hold it closer to the head so I can spin a fastener quickly. The thumbwheel under the head makes this really easy. I see myself using this rachet quite a bit.

Oh, I also got 2 old Zippos (I dated them to 1965 and 1972) that aren't included in the picture as well as a buch of cheap junk that's already gone to my boys' play toolbox.

Ahh, I feel for you. Been there too many times Rickster. In fact a few pop into my mind right now.
1.) Sale with the little roller box facing the wall labeled not for sale, I did find a Snap on ratcheting adapter the greedy workers missed buried in some sawdust on a shelf.
2.) Sale with the tall box and work bench cordoned off, S-K ratchet teasing everyone from the bench. Supposedly the family was keeping it. All they wanted to sell were broken hammers and old grease guns.
3.) The sale with the Snappy box taped off not for sale. Supposedly the box and contents would be offered at a later sale while they sold all the **** tools that day. Never did have a sale again.
4.) One of my favorites, took a ride out into farm country for a sale advertising Snap On box and tool sets for sale. Got there bright and early to find out the guy's sons hadn't picked through the tools yet-once again none of it for sale. I felt like punching that guy in the face because I went far out of my way to see someone who was a true jerk try and sell scrap metal and an old trailer hitch.

Oh we sold those last night before the sale started .... That's my favorite one.

Several stops today, first one we went to was listed late yesterday, glad I chose to hit it first. They had large tool chest, looked like a Remline but the name plates only said REM. It was a top, intermediate and roller all drawers. Asking price was $400...:eyecrazy: at first I thought with that kind of price, everything would be outrageous. As I dug out the New Brittain and Snap On tools from it, all I could think was I hope they are not overpriced. Needing a box to carry the tools, I found the faux wood Crafsman box full of nuts, screws etc and quickly dumped it into a container and continued my picking. After filling the box with everything I wanted, I cautiously approached the shed cashier and asked the damage. He looked in the box as I waited, thinking I would have to put some things back... He says, how about $15 for the box, contents and saw. I ripped my pocket off paying! :willy_nil

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1423331764.963280.jpg

Next stop had an old heavy duty b&d drill and a box of about 100 coping saws that I passed on but I did buy the lantern and gas for $5.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1423331871.229150.jpg

Third stop that listed tools had a tape measure and broken push mower, I walked out with two project lamps for $2 each.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1423331943.678077.jpg

Last stop was listed as hoarder storage sale, I found a Dewalt sawzall and large Johnson square for $22.

Hope you guys did well!

Crummy yard and estate sale (all but two were no shows, only one ES had anything and that was day 2 leavings...)

The clamps were from a while back foubnd them hanging near my wire wheel so I'm not sure I ever posted them... :dunno:

The rest was as I said leavings, SO Proto and Dunlap modified punches, a filler for a prop bottle, part of an adapter for one, a drive wedge, a dril chuck, P&C Socket (not from this sale) and a Heyco multi Spanner with an open end, a pin and hook spanner and two other pin spanners. I'm sure this was a tool specific tool. I need to replace one pin. no big deal.

$3 all (except the clamps and one socket)

And a couple of old catalogs that caught my eye:

Then I went a little out of town for a CL pickup. I've been waiting for almost three days to make this PU... but you have to wait for my next post

I found this old Kennedy machinist box from an estate sale this morning for $15. I got kind of melancoly digging thru the contents when I got home. I guess this reflects the life of an aerospace engineer/machinist from the late 1940's to the 1970's. Hope you enjoy the images:

Nice finds Dave. In the 7th picture from the top what is the black plastic thing that looks sort of like a drill chuck? It's just below the pair of tweezers. I got one in a treasure chest at a sale last fall and I have yet to figure out what it is...

Dave:

That box looks like one I picked up a while ago pretty much empty for 3+ times what you paid. The square top and the ribs on the inside of the lid are what I'm judging by.

Lot's of cool memories in there - sort of sad the family didn't want any of it . . .

Cheers

This took a mini road trip of >40 miles round trip. Worth every second, even in heavy rain... :bounce:

Anyone recognize this?

If you guessed a top box, guess again! I finally found a bottom for the top I got a year or so ago! :rocker:

All Pics as found. This will get a good cleaning and will hold my oldest long C Craftsman tools!

attachment.php

No bottom rust, even the underside is rust free!

attachment.php

Slides work perfectly, no significant rust at all, This box was taken care of. The lady I bought it from bought it for her husband, who told her "I have a box" all baffled why she would buy it.

She was thrilled someone actually "got it" and appreciated it's uniqueness. she was shocked how old it really was though, she was thinking maybe 60's

She pointed out (disparagingly) her husbands half plastic Craftsman roller. "that's his Chinese POS" (her words not mine!) "No character at all!"

She even asked if I would send her pics when I get things all together!

I told her you guys would be asking if she had a sister...

Drawers:

That P&C 5/8 Socket from the prior post was in the top drawer.

Lock, I need to match the key and have it cut (numbers are there)

It wasn't a steal, but I paid her C note asking price without a quiver. :pimpflash

Lots of cool stuff there Dave! I agree, damn shame his family doesn't recognize the history there...

The Lufkin is just an inspection/layout stand, I think the thing in it is for comparing parts.

The little tire is missing a round ashtray.

This is my score for today, Crafstman swing saw, Westinghouse fan and 2x 1/3 motors. More importantly I met a very nice 82 year old man that has lifetime of stories.
