I found this old Kennedy machinist box from an estate sale this morning for $15. I got kind of melancoly digging thru the contents when I got home. I guess this reflects the life of an aerospace engineer/machinist from the late 1940's to the 1970's. Hope you enjoy the images:

What a deal for 15 dollars. Lot of cool stuff in that box. PM me if your interested in selling the craftsman ruler and those small v-blocks.

Outlawmws: Great find on that tool box. I would had paid the asking price as well. Looking forward to seeing it when you get it all cleaned up.

I'm not sure. It looks like some kind of a bit driver that stops at a preset depth:

P.S. Has anyone every hear of Vultee Aircraft Company?

That was my thought about the chuck thing but I'll be darned if I can figure out exactly how it works. Oh well.

Some info on Vultee:

OK, I went through my massive library of catalogs (on CD :lol_hitti) and found that the Swing Saw was removed from the Power Tool Catalog in 1957, 1958, and 1959. But it still appeared in the Sear's Catalog until at least 1960 when it was put back into the Power Tool Catalog. After that I got tired of scanning through all those pages.

So, the conclusion is that the Swing Saw was still available at least into the early 1960's.

Nice score.

Those posts should swivel down flat, shouldn't they ?

Score...I thought this was the fixed post model, but then I went down to the garage to look, and lo and behold they do swivel down.

Sweeeeeeeeettttttt!

I guess the seller wasn't aware, as he helped me load it in the back of my wagon with the posts up.

Davefr,

Interesting 4in Diamalloy, looks like the words 4in and drop forged are raised letters but the word Diamalloy looks stamped into the handle. I've not seen one like that before, usually all raised letters.

Thanks guys, this is why I was so glad to find that bottom roller:

I'll get them cleaned up, and then start getting all the Long C era tools into them, including that set of 3/8 & 1/2" ratchets from a week or so ago!

Thnaks agian guys!

These catalog pages from '42 are all I have that show this setup.

Jake, can you ID how early these went, and if anything surfaced in 43 or 44?

First three show what I have, the last one I'd love to find: full width (25") and the extra drawer...

Wow Dave, that Kennedy is just unbelievable to me. Things are so cheap out there.

Nice grab on the Hazet Chris. I'm not a huge fan, but for that price I would have to give it a try.

Congrats Outlaw on completing the set. Now for the full top box.

Nothing much around here that I could find but some high prices. Picked this up for $10 though. Welcome replacement to my ever faithful, but highly questionable Kobalt.

Thanks, I am very excited about it. From what I understand not too many were made since it didn't catch on. This thing is accident waiting to happen lol.

1940 - No
1941 - Yes
1942 - Yes
1943 - No
1944 - No (catalog is sparse)
1945 - Yes, but now has the Heritage Logo

First, I was only looking at the bottom box. The top box may have been available longer (before and after '42) as part of a tool set.

Second, the bottom box may have been available in '43 and '44, but not listed in the catalog. Either as NOS or NS.

As an aside - I noticed that both the Companion label and the Dunlap label were used in the 1940 catalog. So, my original assumption that the changeover occurred during the war was wrong. It started around 1940 and there was some crossover.

Finds from an estate sale today. Prices were fair to very good.
I was most excited to find the ratchet Snap On made for Greenlee Tools. :rocker:

First picture: S-K WAYNE 4 way lug wrench, craftsman engineer's hammer, new gator grip set

Second picture: Greenlee(Snap On) long 1/2" ratchet - Not too bad for $7 and it cleaned up real nice right after the photo, handle and all.
Witte Screwdriver, Stanley dead blow.

Third: Greenlee empty box, ideal tap handle, blue bird battery puller, and I went pliers crazy with Klein, Snap On, Craftsman, Utica, Proto, Vise Grip. Craftsman and Danielson adjustables (lost the wheel for a minute).

Fourth: Craftsman V partial 1/4 set. Unfortunately I passed up the rest of the socket set and somebody bought it, then I found the rest hidden elsewhere. That's okay though, I watched a guy picked up the V selector ratchet and put it back down, then I scooped it up. It was only $2 :dunno:!
A couple Williams pieces.
Some neat MOOG anniversary key chains and letter opener.

Last: Some really sweet Motor Service Mags from 1938 & 1939 from a small flea market. They were marked $5. The seller said they were half price and I was about to buy them. Then he said give me a buck. Love when people negotiate for me! Some of the coolest tool ads in these things including Williams and Herbrand! I'll have to post up pics when I get time.

Some good stuff there 3bay, how'd you figure out that SO made the Greenlee ratchet? I got one in a Greenlee cable bender set last summer, I didn't need the cable bender but the ratchet looked useful and the whole set was $10. Mine just says Greenlee on it and I did some digging online but couldn't find any indication of who made it for them. It's a good ratchet, bridges the gap between a standard length ratchet and a breaker bar nicely. I like it for removing lug nuts, the bulky rubber grip protects the side of my car when I get clumsy.

Went to a used tool resale place in Portland, Oregon today. It is about 40 minutes from my house but super worth it!! It is called Ted's tool shed and is located right off the freeway. I would highly recommend it! It has big bins of sockets, wrenches, etc and the best part is it is sorted by drive size and socket/wrench size so you have a somewhat organized area to look for tools! They where all used but I only paid $15 for this lot:evil: Everything it got was either plvmb, proto/ proto l.a., sk or craftsman:rocker: I will most certainly be going back on a more regular basis to fill holes in my collection !

Craftsman long c dbe, proto los angeles doe and mid length sk 6 pt socket

Proto deep socket, proto combination wrenches, little baby 5/16ths proto l.a. combination wrench

Plvmb scores-1" deep socket, transition market socket, wf wobble socket, stud puller/extractor complete with slide pin and 2 different wedges inside!! I have been wanting one of these for a while and am super stoked to get it! The teeth on the studs don't really even look worn:rocker:. Wright field and civilian deb's with same sizes but at these prices I couldn't pass it up, wf doe.

Outlaw glad you found that early Craftsman roller!
I myself spent $1200 on a 1992 Mustang parts car. 351W EFI conversion, rear disc conversion, T5 transmission. It will be parted out and I already buyers awaiting.

Nice deal there. It's pretty easy to i.d. it as Snap On by the looks. Those knockout sets seem to have ratchets sourced from from Snap On, Wright, and Proto or Proto knockoff. This one has a black handle and the letters GB in the part #. I wonder if it's a Gardner Bender not a Greenlee which normlly has a green handle with the Greenlee name.

Did yours have a lock button? I think most do to keep it together with the rest of the tool . I was surprised to see this one already had a detent ball so not sure if someone swapped it out or it's original.
