They say we have two seasons in Maine, winter and construction.

Strouty,

Summer in Maine is pretty nice. I've been going to Sebago on and off for 15 years now. I'm headed back for a week this August. I can't wait.

After the rain we had here in northern California San Francisco Bay Area its been really nice now. Went to a few garage sales and the flea market on Sunday did find a few good tools but I got to learn how to post pictures here. Been begging my 10 years old daughter to teach me but she is usually busy with home work or her ipad. Lol

That's DownEast. Up on the border where my family is from we get 4 seasons.
Winter, Mud, Blackfly, and Both Days of Summer (rarely consecutive). :lol_hitti

Well that brought back some memories............used to fly deep into Canada for brown Trout with my Grandfather when I was a kid. Great fishing, if you could keep away from the damn black flies! I remember them being so thick sometimes you couldn't even step outside.

There are a few links here that should help you learn to post. Just copy the following into Google. I think your daughter is probably your best source. LOL

XXTool: do you have pictures saved to your laptop of desktop computer? if so you can just attach pictures using the paperclip above where we write our posts. sort of like attaching pictures to emails. if you are on your cell phone then i hear using Tapatalk works great, but I use the paperclip method.

any more questions just ask.

ALL: For all the crappy weather in the south, north and east you guys are still finding great stuff. it's setting record high temps up here this last week, but furniture seems to be main items for sale.

I"m ORGANIZING so hard to post my finds until i get a bench open to lay them out. i'll post a few of my finds when i can. here's a cool ruler i found and used to measure a cabinet for my new steel welding table that i hadn't seen before. anybody else own one of the metal 3 foot rulers?

Drives, who made that ruler, it has the old style numerals on it like a ruler I have. Unfortunately the ruler I have was a 24" and some yahoo cut it in half so one side is 1-12 and the other is 12-24... Seems like it was a machinist ruler like a Brown and Sharp or Starrett iirc.

From the local CL. Asking price was $250, did a bit better. Loaded it all up and the guy asked me how I was going to fit the compressor in there, I didn't even know it was included. I still have to go through it all, but I've found a Matco Silver Eagle 1/4 set, OTC ball joint press, Snap-On 18V impact w/two batteries and charger, Snap-On 14.4V impact with one battery and no charger, a couple sets of Matco reversible ratcheting wrenches, a PAR-X set of wrenches, several Snap-On and Matco ratchets, green snap-on ratcheting screwdriver, a couple of Snap On hard handle screwdrivers and a bunch of other stuff. I thought there were two broken Matco ratchets in there, but it looks like it's some kind of low profile set where you swap out the drive mechanism. More pictures when it's not so cold out and I can actually sort through it.

Last 2 weeks went to the pawn shop twice to find sockets to fill in some holes (lots of holes, actually).
I found about 18 I needed, including these 4.
3 Snap-On's and 1 SK Wayne. Paid about 2.25 for all 4.

Good stuff guys! It's finally going to be in the upper 50's to mid 70's all weekend but there is a 60% chance of rain all weekend too so there are not many sales listed so far. Hope you guys have better luck!

Here's todays finds, one stop only and close by for a change.

Craftsman =V= combo wrenches, screwdriver, awl, Torx drivers.
Simmons made in USA tape measure for my collection.
Plomb offset DBE wrench, Regal scraper, Peterson vise grips, Wilde pliers.

Craftsman 3 1/2" made in Japan vise with nice original paint, Murphy oil and older Ford paint and oil.

Craftsman Heritage oval badge hand carry tool box, been looking for one in decent shape.

Cordomatic light reel with original box but needs total rewire.

Craftsman Crown label propane torch kit in nice shape, even has the original instructions. This is my second, will combine the two for the best pieces and then repurpose the extra box for something else.

$43 total.

Another "the place is getting knocked down next week so make us an offer" sale. Here's my haul.

Any one of these hand tools would retail for what I paid for everything. Heck, I'm surprised he sold me the snow shovel for $5. Folks around here are scalping snow removal tools nowadays (I saw a Craigslist ad selling a used roof rake for $100!!).
bf0f695c1defac2607e2b32f5c2e4c9a.jpg

The two beer glasses were a buck and the red triangular tray is what I carried the hand tools out in. I've been wanting a metal ruler in the garage, so I put that on the pile. The lopers are no-name, likely TruValue same as the other garden tools.
da5cf7b2f5d8224cfcf2c531e0d08886.jpg

A variety of wrenches and other odds and ends. The Visegrips appear brand new. I don't know why I buy old wrenches at these sales. I guess I'm collecting them now. I thought the Stanley fixed-blade cutting tool was unique.
Retractable blade for safety?!?! What nonsense is that?

Not much going this week. Last week's haul: a mix of Williams including 15" adjustable and box wrench set, Craftsman including BE breaker bar, Bemis & Call curved wrench, Husky ratchet, Klein, S-K, Stanley, Plomb, Armstrong, Barcalo tack puller, Niagara snips, some unmarked chisels, random hardware.

Guys, take a look at the Williams box wrenches. They were all priced out individually and I had to haggle on the price to get them as a set with some other things. I think whoever breaks a set like that ought to be slapped. ANd then they ought to be slapped again for putting prices like that.

I've been going a little overboard with the adjustables lately and decided to follow up with 5 adapters all 1/2-3/8. :lol_hitti

I was excited to find the Keystone box for a couple bucks even though empty.

I've been watching CL patiently for a long time now to find some old steel cabinets that were from an automotive service center. This deal finally came up last week and I was able to connect with the seller Friday after work. Three wall cabinets for $100 total, which I think is good compared to what I would pay at Homer's Depot for brand new. Sure, I will have to invest some clean up labor and spray paint but will have some nice vintage wall storage afterward.
Two were Borg-Warner and one from Essex Automotive.
cabinets 1.jpg

All three have shelves inside and small parts storage on the inside of the doors.
cabinets 3.jpg

Essex Automotive is a special treat for me. I worked for this company as my first "big" job out of college back in 1978. Most of the cabinet may get a repaint but I'll preserve the graphics.

Well the Klein driver (#68005) is apparently a telecom specialty tool:

Two tools in one, saves space in your pouch
One end opens telephone box fasteners, the other end tightens nuts on binding-post terminals
The 7/16-Inch socket has a black finish and the 3/8-Inch socket has a silver finish
Sockets are 1-1/4-Inch (32 mm) deep to fit over long binding posts and are thin-walled for easy access into tight areas
Socket ends are color-coded for quick identification of socket sizes

Outlaw, I was going to say that Klein tool is for cable tv lock boxes. We used them in the cable industry to unlock the theft preventative boxes in apartment complexes and neighborhoods to install cable service. They change the fasteners occasionally so IDk if that one is still usable but good score on your picks today anyway!

Snowy estate sale. $15, had some other nice things, but prices were a bit high. The small 1/4" spinner handle is snap on and the SK set box is like new. The Sweden COO hacksaw is a very nice frame.

No sales for me today. But yesterday I stopped by a pawn shop while crossing the state. Top is a Spanish 50 cal black powder rifle and below is a mod 1941 Carcano 6.5
a7738d6d43fb984971309522c5db76e1.jpg

Ordered ammo and clips for the Carcano this morning so may be shooting soon. I already have powder and balls so might pop out with that gun this week. I spent most of the afternoon cleaning them.

Oh, and the price was very right.

Edit: Damn phone posting upside down.

A few signs of g-sale life out there.

Stihl chainsaw was $20 and the big Arbor press was $15 and including the jug of tapping fluid along with a Lufkin machinist square and Starrett 24" machinist ruler:

P1040725.jpg

Nice running 1 HP 1750 RPM GE motor for $5:

P1040729.jpg

A pile of Plomb, CM, Diamond, SO, misc. Each item was $.50/tool:

P1040723.jpg

Looks like it cuts notches in tin $3:

Too bad that SK box wasn't full Z, that thing is like new!!

We stopped at a sale around the corner earlier and the gentleman had this saw listed for $75, I told him if it was still there when I came back in my truck I'd give him $60. It was there an he sold it to me for my offer and included a hardcover Woodworking for beginners handbook and 4 extra blades besides the one used one on it. Looks like he made the base out of bed frame and HF casters, it works great though.

Nope, but it could happen. When I was real little my Dad used one for a deer rifle, until he finally got his Win. Mod 70 in '06. The gun I wish he'd kept though was a savage Mod 20 in .250-3000.

Nine, it is std hex in 7/16 and 3/8 so not for anti theft, fasteners.

 I've seen quite a few in my travels. They must have been a hot seller for Barcalo but they sure are cool.

Wow, things are getting crazy, two S-K Wayne blue boxes on one page!
