Got these goodies yesterday at an Estate Sale.

A whole bunch of Go Kart racing wheels and tires along with 2 front wheels/tires from a quarter midget.
Go Kart Wheels.jpg

And 2 gear pullers, slightly different sizes that I did not have. I'll give them a good soak and hit the wire wheel to make them good as new.

I managed to stop at two more Estate Sales today one was planned and one just by chance very near the office.

The first was listed as an ES but was really a garage tool sale. Prices were not terrible but many items were from HF or other Taiwan made. I did find a few items of interest. The little SK box is a nice old one with the riveted in name plate and original wrinkle green paint in good condition. The sockets inside were a mix though. A few SK but the rest were various other brand odds. Also found one 3/8 drive SK ratchet and one flex head no name. And then the body work dolly which I have very few of so this will help build my selection.
Ratchets n Dolly.jpg

The next ES was a bust for tools. By the time I got there in the afternoon the garage had been picked clean. But I had to pick out a few interesting albums for a buck a piece. As a drummer how could I resist an album called "Provocative Percussion".:dunno:

The box was 20.00 and I bought that immediately. The rest of the stuff, grinder, Axe, timing light, etc was piled on and totaled up to 120.00 but that price included 4lbs of sterling silver flatware

OK, YOU ****!

Power craft wrenches.

There is a bunch of asserts sockets, mini Dimalloy crescents and the bottom half is old stills on pipe wrenches, Pexto and Utica cutters, 1/2" breaker bars and asserts hand tool.

If this were on Craigs List, someone would flame you for misspelling "Powr-Kraft" when it's written right on the wrench!

Good thing this is the nice, congenial Garage Journal. :rolleyes2

Stopped at my first yard sale of the season today. I saw it early on the way to check out SWMBO's new warehouse, and we would have stopped, but there was no parking on a busy road and I didn't want to make everyone walk from the next side street in the cold. They were clearing out the contents of the garage and by the time I got back there the tools were all gone. Oh well, there will be others. I did manage to find a piece of RR track which is something I've been looking for. The metal box was cool to me only because the pop latch still works. No idea the brand though. The fuel regulator was just a filler from the 25 cent shelf.

Grand total was $2.00

Better shot of the tools. Looks like plomb made craftsman ratchets and sockets:beer:

BC buddy, I believe those are the Moore made ratchets you are confusing for Plomb made.

I haven't logged on for a bit and jeez I see some major suckage over the past couple weeks. KZ, T4runner, ShadowRulez, BC, Oak Park, rmalkow those long ratchets, You all ****! Heck pretty much a lot of the recent finds ****!

Two estate sales today, both nearby, and SWMBO agreed to come along! Left the driveway with snow falling, stopped at Dunkin to fuel up, and then on to the first location. This one was hyped up on Craigslist for at least two weeks - lots of pictures and listings in multiple locales. We got there at the opening bell, but there was not a huge crowd. I hit the basement, while my better half surveyed the rest of the house. Here's what we found:

View media item 49405Sears sandblaster kit - I bought it for the gun and nozzle, as well as a more portable blaster than my cabinet.
2 Teco circulator pumps (may not work - were sitting on shelf next to heating system with their wires cut)
Sears air-powered caulk gun in original box
Sears router template tool, new in box
Craftsman crown-top 8" dado set, barely used
Air brush, pint-sized
Drywall mud spreader
Tork brand timer switch
Two Benzomatic propane torches (note the 95th anniversary propane bottle label)
One ten-inch spike
A bucket full of switch plates, switches, outlets and junction boxes
A tube of lube, two paint brushes, wire end clamps, & a box of upholstery washers
Stanley USA-made mini hack saw and extra blade
Two USA-made scrapers/putty knives (one's a Craftsman)
Exact Handylevel torpedo level
Case cutlery whetstone
GB GS-60 USA-made wire stripper
Craftsman 1-1/4" chisel
Stanley camp hatchet
Masonry chisel
Two USA-made punches
Two Stanley forstner bits
Two masonry trowels (one big, one micro)
One carpet or linoleum cutting tool
One round bucket
One chain shackle

All of this for $40.

SWMBO bought a squirrel-proof bird feeder, some books, seven bags of topsoil and mulch and assorted plant care powders for $15, as well as three rakes and an aluminum shovel for $5.

On to the second stop, advertised on Craigslist, but with no pictures. Same MO - Better Half upstairs, me into the basement. Here's what we took away:
View media item 494181950's King-Seeley Craftsman model 103.20000 table saw, came with the miter slide, fence, both table extensions and a Craftsman 3/4 hp motor. It was mounted on a saw-dust-catcher box (no extra charge for the saw dust).
View media item 49425
View media item 49417
Ten-inch copper kettle
Vintage Miller lamp with cast-iron base
Two heavy duty 6" steel caster wheels
Craftsman oil can
Three turnbuckles
Several long threaded rods
14" pipe wrench
3/4" masonry hammer drill bit
Vintage large soldering iron
Pneumatic lube gun
Barcalo Buffalo DBE wrench
Billings DBE wrench
Indestro DBE wrench
Nameless USA-made DBE wrench
Cincinnati Tool Co. No 5 C-clamp
Twister 1/2" ratchet - never seen one of these, but looks to be of decent quality
5" curved adjustable wrench
Two air chucks
Tiny tiny nipper pliers
Chain hook
6-foot logging chain

SWMBO picked out a few more books and some jewelry costume from upstairs.

All for $120.

I'd love to keep the table saw, but I already own a modern 10" Craftsman. I think I paid too much to get any payback on resale. This one may go on Craigslist or E-bay for parts. Thoughts or opinions, anyone?

Blue, depending on what "Modern" Saw you have, you might be further ahead to keep the KE and watch for table extensions... Is the KS a 10"?

The KS is a 9" and came with the side wings. Are those what you mean by table extensions?

My modern Craftsman is pretty good, and practically new. I like it a lot.

But I also like the old table a lot. The motor seems to be dated "4 55". Does this mean my table (or at least the motor) is from April 1955?

67d08a23a94e6b6389c5d6413a7f8a0e.jpg

The stand it came on has corner guards like a shipping trunk - this saw just oozes character...

Hmmm. Maybe I CAN keep both of them...

hey i had that same sheet flooring installed 29 years ago.
LOL! I got some remnants years ago at a yard sale and figured it would make a decent bench covering. It's been amazingly chemical resistant. Just have to be careful when heating stuff!

Last minute decision on a yard sale this morning. $50

This guy must have had 500 hammers of all kinds. You can see a few Plumb in the pic. Couldn't find a single Bonney though, bummer. This was all the tools I was interested in in the yard sale. We couldn't even get into the basement (yet) because it's packed with boxes of old tools. I'll be back!

in socal so theres sales year round, but i went to 2 sales first that i knew were low probability, 10 miles one direction which were a bust. then off 25 miles the other direction to a more rural area. big yard full of old stuff i didnt care about. was about to leave but the guy asked if i was looking for anything, said hand tools, he said its your lucky day look over here.
20150327_102006_resized_1.jpg
anyway, i had to go find a bank and i dont like spending more than pocket money for something i dont need but anyways. for $80 i probably got had but theres a good amount of plomb/proto (what I'm into) and maybe i can sell off some of the stuff i wont use. which is basically all of it because i really have no use for standard size anything at home :headscrat

20150327_105212_resized_1.jpg

spent way too much time writing down what there was and im not gonna do it again here, so good luck reading my writing :pimpflash:thumbup:

12s = 12pt shallow
6d = 6pt deep etc

20150328_175224_resized.jpg
20150328_175532_resized.jpg

plus a small pile of non-usa to add to the others
20150327_105221_resized_1.jpg

im new to buying old tools and so not very savvy on values and i have some weird ocd thing for plomb/proto all of a sudden so im not sure i drove a very hard bargain but hey, it says "los angeles" on it!! :bounce::lol_hitti

Lot O' great finds today guys! Wish mine were so good. Barely any of mine even edge into the tool category...

Joe, Usuck on those 2 vises... and is that DP a three speed for wood working? The pulley housing looks abnormally shallow...

My "finds", such as they are...

I found this flag frame, and I put the flag from my Dad's funeral last year in it

attachment.php

Three 300 and two 500W halogens, that I think fit my work lights. .50c ea; another stop got me the Claw feet pieces for free, 3 match, one orphan with splayed toes.

attachment.php

And from an estate sale on "clean out day" $5 for: a wall hanging first aid box, an old 50's 60's spatula, an ice cream scoop, a cookie or biscuit cutter with an ejector, and a large heavy duty funnel that will probably get used on my oil change dump barrel. Also a heavy wall lock box. This may be an asbestos lined "fire box" from the 50's or 60's. :dunno:

Not shown: A 5' X 3-1/2' framed and beveled edge mirror I went back out to show SWMBO; that was $80, and a black leather easy chair for $20 that will land in the family room or possibly my office at work. Also, a rectangular lamp shade for an old 40's lamp I have.

Not a single "hard" tool... :dunno:

Just picked up a black hawk S4 floor jack of the c list for $99. Pictures to follow... It is missing it's head light plate, the wiring and the buttons for the light so if someone has those, please pm me.

Pics as promised. It is in good mechanical shape but needs the parts listed above. It is wet around the jack because I just pressure washed it to clean the grease off it. As you can see it was repainted but you can see hints of red paint underneath. One day I will restore it but for the time I will change the oil and put the old girl to work in the garage.

Between an out of town guy who came by at 630 in the morning to buy car parts and a eye clinic appointment at 1100 AM I got a late start and had to quit early Friday morning.

First stop was already cleaned out of tools but I picked up a gallon can of camp fuel or my Coleman lantern for $1.

2nd stop appeared to be the estate of someone who had a plumbing business. Msut have been 30 Channellock 420 and 430 pliers for $2 each but I have plenty. Picked up a Wilton 1750 vise and put it on my pile but after a second look in the sunlight I put it back. It was $48 and needed new pipe and main jaws, broken insert screws in the dynamic jaw, the cap at the back was missing and the handle was stuck in the screw. Needed more work and money than I wanted to deal with, I have plenty of vises.
Found a Proto tool box with tools and along with a few other singles paid $30 total.

Plombobs, Armstrong socket, Bonney wrench and punch, Dasco chisel, Durochrome socket, old Ford wrench, Indestro screw/nutdriver, socket and extension, New Britain pliers, Plomb 3/8D breaker, extension and socket, Proto screw extractors and pouch, Challenger sockets, Snap-On 1/4 driver handle, Stanley screwdriver and extension, Williams tools and a NICE Wizard 1/2D ratchet and socket.

Found a bunch of jars of honey and called a friend who is a chef and asked her if she wanted any. She said buy all of it! 14 jars of honey, half were quarts and the others were a bit bigger than a pint, $5 each. I sold it to her for cost AND lunch. Mmm Blue Burger! She was so happy she even gave me a hug LOL.

Its been a long cold winter. I few things scrounged up lately with the weather breaking somewhat.

Action 1/4" & 3/8 drive SAE socket set. For some reason it has a Thorsen ratchet rather than its economy brother Action. $5

IMG_0631_zpspdlw7mi6.jpg

Tru-Test 1/4" drive socket set. Never seen a Tru-Test socket set in the wild before. From what I gather this was produced by Proto, Fleet, etc? That would probably figure since the ratchet is actually stamped Fleet. Also A Mckaig-Hatch 12" adjustable with what looks like a new thumbscrew $10

IMG_0634_zpsaptl2bry.jpg

Many tremendous scores already this year and the season hasn't even shifted into high gear in the cold weather areas. Keep the finds coming and Happy hunting

OK, STILL no tools here... But I went out on a long shot, did get these:

A Delco on board Air pump, probably off a Caddy's leveling suspension, and I tested it, and it works, and hit 60 PSI rather easily without noticeable strain.

The black Filter looking thing is probably a muffler, and that is the output.

attachment.php

And a sword: a 30" cross hilt rapier, beat to hell but the price reflected it's condition. I got it and the pump above for $12.

It has the remnants of some makers markings, and they appear to my to say "Sheffield - Mfg." in an arc. What I can see for sure is: FEI _ MFG and that of portions of it are on both sides.

It has been used and abused harshly, including grinding/sanding marks full length of the blade, hence the marking nearly obliterated.

One arm of the brass cross hilt is gone, and the remaining one is bent but I think that one was made that way. The chape and the pommel are also brass and not in too bad a shape the grips is "I'm not sure..." - It MAY be the original leather with any wire windings missing...

The scabbard is actually the bright spot, as it has not been bent, kinked or dented! Brass mouthpiece on top as well as the tip protector , the only dent being near the tip of the brass tip.

I'm thinking the was a "real" sword, and almost certainly not a ceremonial sword. Age is :dunno: I've gone some Google image searching without any thing close, but I could swear I've seen that "S" shaped cross hilt in the past before.
