So who is the drummer(s) on this album? Simply curious.
Bill

The album was recorded and produced by Enoch Light and the Light Brigade 1959. The two drummers/percusionists in the orchestra were Terry Snyder and Artie Marotti. The album produced by Command Records (founded by Enoch Light) was just at the beginning of the "High Fidelity Stereo" age and used a lot of left/right channel recording differences and is also supposed to be a good reference album for testing your system. Enoch was known for using the best recording equipment of the day and multiple mics. He also pioneered the album cover that folds like a book to allow more printed info space. It's a wordy ****** with lots of description about each song they played.
I have yet to play it but I expect a real blast from the past.

Favorite find of the day! $6 at an estate sale, perfect for examining all the tools I seem to bring home on a daily basis! Machined a mount for it on the CNC and it works flawlessly!

I have that exact same magnifier lamp. Very handy to have and built well!

Todays finds:
1/2" Craftsman ratchet I've already replaced the missing screw.
1/2" Craftsman extension
3/8 Snap-On extension
Jacobs 1/4" drill chuck
Morse 1/4" NPT tap
Petersen Vise Grips
Air line moisture trap
Approx 1lb of rosin core solder
A mostly full bag of steel wool

All items ended up being $1 each. Went to the thrift store to find a bigger toaster oven for powdercoating, and walked out with all of this along with the toaster oven. Froze my *** off digging around in their unheated "warehouse" area where most of the tools were found.

Was able to get to a few sales this weekend including an auction where the prices when higher than retail. For example new looking, not in package Channellocks bigger size(18-20") that sell at HD for $25 went for 2/$65. Watched a guy pay over $15/pair for for vise grip pliers.I only ended up buying a Detroit Tigers Magglio Ordonez picture from the ALCS a few years back.I was outbid or was atleast able to not get caught up in the auction frenzy.

Did manage to get to some sales and found some tools pictured below.

Sockets from SK,Proto,Snap On and some Proto sockets that are gold and stamped Chrysler MSTC Award,Bonney DBE wrench set,Plomb DOE ,rusty Cornwell ratchet, another SK multi tip screwdriver and some odds and ends
The Wright long handle was from a fellow tool buddy and picker. He had grabbed it at a sale we were at a couple weeks ago but decided to sell it to make room for a 1/2" Williams Superratchet he found.
We also found a pretty sweet Kennedy mechanics stack at an estate sale along with the side box and keys for a very good price. The MBC on top was mine just made a stack out of it for pics/resale on CL.

I've seen the same thing happen at live auctions. It's amazing to me the stupid money people will pay as they get caught up in the moment of bidding. It's good that you were able to put your money to better use at other sales and get some good tools and that nice Kennedy stack.

Took a lazy day to visit a couple of planned estate/garage sales and several random ones I ran across. I didn't get much, but had an enjoyable day of recreational shopping. I picked up the battery charger at its asking price, $5 as is. For that, it would make a cool trash can, but it works. The USA Craftsman tap&die sets had a little more rust on them than I would have liked, but there were enough rust-free that I thought it was a good deal at $10 for both. I've shown a photo of the rustiest part. The magnetic light was a steal at $1 - I have a couple just like it, and they're great.
Now, that lump of rust marked Craftsman - you may be sure I didn't pay the marked price for it! I paid the scrap price - $5 for 40 pounds. At least it isn't frozen up, and it is a 5 incher. After a trip through the e-tank, we'll see if it's worth saving.

Picked up this ACORN metal cabinet today for $10. I couldn't resist. I am going to clean her up and use it for my sanders, sandpaper, disks sanding belts storage.
It is 25" wide x 30" tall x 10"deep

I had a pretty wild weekend, at least in terms of buying cool junk I didn't really need.

I took the day off on Friday to take care of some personal business but before I left the house I noticed an estate sale listed on CL. The sale was badly advertised and didn't include any pictures however buried in the description was the phrase "tools tools tools". I figured it was a trick to lure people to the sale but before I closed the ad I heard a little voice whisper "Wiillltonnn". I was in.

The house was on the bad side of a depressed little town. I got to the sale just as it opened and expected to see a big crowd of people but there was hardly anybody there. The house was a dump but there were two detached two-car garages on the property. One of the garages was pretty old and had apparently housed a business years ago, it was falling apart but included a bunch of strange alcoves and rooms and every square inch of both buildings was packed with stuff. Good stuff. Apparently the deceased was into tools, camping gear, mountain bikes, and kayaks. It seemed like he had about 5 of everything and most of it was top quality so for his sake I hope it's true that he who dies with the most toys wins.

I chose the old garage first because it looked the most interesting. My instincts were good because as I walked in the door my eyes lit on (cue the spooky music)... a beautiful Wilton Bullet bolted to a bench across the room. I nearly peed myself when I saw the price tag- $50. The rest of the morning is pretty much a blur, the sheer quantity of stuff was amazing but so were the prices. Evidently the guy was a widower, he died unexpectedly, and his kids lived on the other side of the country and told the estate sale company to clear the place out to the walls by 4:00 Saturday. Most of the smaller items weren't priced and more than once I approached an employee to ask for a price on something and they told me "you've already spent a bunch with us today, you can have that for free". I blew all the cash I had with me and didn't have time to go get more so I headed off to take care of business with a sick feeling that I was missing out on a ton of good stuff. But the next day was Saturday and everything was 50% off, and there was just so much stuff that there was bound to be something left.

Like a junkie I was back first thing Saturday morning with my dad for assistance. I didn't get pics of everything I bought but here are some of the highlights:

IMG_0068_zpsd1dqj76e.jpg

Acetylene B tank with plumber's torch and about 6 valve wrenches- $10 (bought it because my torch setup needs a new gauge and I lost my valve wrench)

Coleman Dual Fuel Lantern with case, like new- $10

Coleman single-burner white gas stove- $5

Coleman Dual Fuel 414 stove, the tape on the box had never even been cut- $10

Military surplus water can- $1

Porter Cable dual action sander- $5 (in the melee I actually thought this was a 4.5 inch grinder because it looks like one and came in a bucket full of grinding wheels, cutoff discs, and flap wheels)

Skil 77 worm drive saw- $20 (been looking for one of these for a while)

Hitachi 4.5 inch grinder with accessories- $10 (new in box)

And the aforementioned Chicago Wilton 5 inch Vise- $50. This thing is gorgeous, I believe it still wears most of its original paint and it's unscathed with the exception of one saw cut in the pad on the dynamic jaw. I think this damage is recent since the cut is still shiny. If I ever find the knucklehead who messed up my vise i'll :gunfire:.

I found some other stuff that didn't make my staged pic here, including a bunch of hardware, an electric capstan winch that I think came off a sailboat (what can I say, it was $5), an unopened quart of Rustoleum, some 3/8 chain (can't have too many) and an MSR Sweetwater water filter (the sale staff threw it in for free because they weren't sure what it was). All told I think I spent about $130 but who's counting...

I bet that vise will clean up just fine. I had the exact same battery charger but mine didn't work and was much rustier so in a very uncharacteristic move I pitched it.

whyNick: you definitely earn a You ****! for that haul at those prices. I'm still on the look out for a Wilton of my own. Good job!

Thanks. I have a Wilton 1750 but I've been looking for a Bullet for a while. I've never actually laid hands on one before and I'm really impressed, I can definitely see what all the hype's about...

WhyNick- is there a date/ COO on that hitachi grinder? I've been looking for one like that.

No date but I'd guess it's fairly recent and the COO is China. :( I actually saw that before I bought it but my old Dewalt had just croaked and I needed a grinder to finish up a welding project. It's definitely not a top of the line tool but it's worlds better than the HF I used to have. Looks like you can get the same one from CPO for $39.

Not really a garage sale find--haven't been taking pictures of stuff lately due to time and oh yeah.. time..
I grabbed a total of 9 of these Appleton AA-51 Explosion Proof lamps at a salvage business (I don't think they even knew what they had). They were all completely coated in white latex ceiling paint--and all I had to do was chip the paint with my fingernail a bit and see the green porcelain under the paint.. I was pretty stoked to get all of them for $200... Eight of them will be in the garage down the road while one will be the centerpiece in our utility room in the house.. They are soooo pretty.. If there is anyone that has any experience with these lamps, please pm me.. I'm having problems with one of them as the globe ring is "stuck" somehow..

Here's the before..

and the after.. (Just a stack of parts for re-assembly right now..)

I was pretty stoked to be able to save 7 of the 9 stickers (couldn't save the other two as they were already gone..)

Hey, Hemi, how the heck did you get the paint off those lights?? I've never had much luck removing latex except by abrasive methods that would have ruined them.

They look great, by the way. I have several similar green porcelain lights in my garage.

Some freebies that I acquired this weekend from my in-laws. They are moving out of their house and into a condo, so my FIL said I could have all of his tools. Although he doesn't have many high quality tools, I still appreciate them and will keep what I need. This is only the start of it. We still have a lot of cleaning to do and then I'll get the majority of the tools.

I also have some freebies that I never posted that came from my FILs parents house. My FIL had also kept some things for himself but those things will all end up coming to me as well. I'll post them up soon.

That Beryllium-Copper screwdriver is definitely usual. Never seen one that big. Somebody must have needed it in a no-spark environment. Cool "find"!

Yeah that thing is huge! I have it smaller cousin and it is my largest screwdriver. It is fairly soft so abuse it like a steel one you won't have the best results

To test that torch hook it up and use soapy water at every threaded section valves included and watch 20 minutes or so for bubbles. There isn't much that can go wrong with them other than the valves and the hose and tip threaded sections. The valves are a 20 dollar fix generally if you diy it.

Thanks! My FIL had no idea what it even was so either he bought it by mistake (which is doubtful since he buys a lot of his tools at the supermarket), or it was someone else's.

I couldn't even fit it in my normal screwdriver drawer. It found a nice home in the larger of my Kennedy boxes and it will only be used if the right situation arises. One of those "specialty tools" that's just too cool to get rid of lol.

Wow, great find and save Hemi! Can you get LED bulbs to fit those? That would be really cool!

Thanks.. I sure would think so.. Its a standard "large" screw in light bulb porcelain socket.. So--I'm pretty sure there should be lots of options??

Thanks!! Well--if I'm right as I think I am regarding the white paint being latex--maybe not?? All I did was take all the non-electric parts and give them a water bath for a couple days.. The paint loosened up and under hot water basically peeled off. The porcelain parts were easiest due to the slick surface--the bare aluminum was tougher as the bond was a little bit better.. Either way--they came out nicely!

$35 for all at a church indoor yard sale and a second hand store. I got a 24" Helios caliper (Germany). I may sell it, I don't envision ever using it but the quality of it made me believe it was worth more than I paid. NAPA (Taiwan) metric 1/2" drive 12 pt sockets 10-24mm. Almong the other stuff, I got some chain shackles, a USA clamp, a couple of lures and some carabiners.

Hemi, they make adapters from the large size (I always called that size "mine lights" as that was the first place I ever saw them... I have a couple of the bulbs, and yep, they were from mines...) to the small "household" base bulbs.

Even if they make them in the large base LEDS, the adapter might be cheaper in the long run...

Water?! Wouldn't have thought of that.

The larger base bulb size is Mogul; the smaller, normal is called either Edison or Medium. Mogul to Edison adaptors are available at electric contractor supply houses; probably not HD/Lowes.

I'll eventually look into this--the bulbs that were in place were a mix of the (probably original) large element bulbs and some larger fluorescent bulbs--and some had the adaptors you speak of..
When the time comes I'll have to check into the LED as an option.. These lights will eventually be complimented by wall mounted fluorescent assemblies, but only when necessary as I hope these will provide adequate lighting..

Thanks for the tips on the terminology-hopefully that'll make my search easier..
Also~~~I'm saying the paint was latex--maybe?? All I know is the paint was sprayed onto the ceiling and the lights--and water has a fine removing quality to it! ;)

My monthly visit to the local auction house produced these:

*ALMOST* a complete set of matching leg stabilizers/drop downs for benches or other tools for $15. One is a mismatch. Drat! Got any matches to this?

Folding tool chest shelf ($10) and two 1 gallon Justrite parts can washers NIB for $15.

7 piece adjustable reamer set (never had one before), junk 1/4" socket wrench that was in the same box, and a slot punch meant for vinyl/aluminum siding that I'll use for ID badges instead. $20.

Cable puller, barrel pump, new battery tester, junky riveter, broken DVM (HF throwaway), and air inline sander which was new in box but caked in packing grease. All for $20 in one box at the auction.

I haven't posted much this last 2 months because my old auto repair shop closed, and I'm finally settling into a new one. I've enjoyed reading all your posts though. Some really incredible finds guys! Anyway . . . I got a little time off today and went to the restore. A bunch of junk and then two ziploc bags filled with machinists tools, for $7 each! Ha! I scored all this in the picture for $14. That's a win. No idea what I'm going to do with the set of reamers, but I'm a tool junkie so I'm enjoying them anyway. Keep posting your finds!
