Today I picked up some goodies. One of the goodies being something I've been wanting for a while. Another Vidmar cabinet!!!!!
It is an 8 drawer in like new condition, don't think it had anything in it half its life.
I paid a whopping $100 for it. I was excited.
Then the guy had some more stuff and said "machinist tools"
Anyways, here's what I got. If anyone can guide me along as to what is what and the worth of some things I'd appreciate it.
I paid another whopping $20 for all the tools.
I know machine tools are expensive and name brands are starrett and mitutoyo, besides that, that's all I know.

The Vidmar cabinet for $100, can't wait to get it beside the others

inside and outside calipers...

What they said.

Your Mitutoyo something's are bore/hole micrometers I think but I would need a picture including the handles to be sure.

By the way it's all worthless especially the vidmar. If you shoot me your address I'll come by and dispose of it for you.

Got this craftsman 220v compressor and a 1HP motor both for $20. Search for parts tells me it's made by Campbell Hausfield. I was told it ran when the seller acquired it from his neighbor who moved. He just didn't have a 220 outlet to use it. So hopefully it runs.

Nice find for $20. That gives you plenty of room to spend on getting back into shape. Around here that would have sold for $100+ in that condition.

The romantic hills of central Umbria, Italy,
Co-worker was having a block sale, got there early on, just as he's putting out this benchtop Craftsman 10" variable speed band saw... looked like it was barely used, but missing the manual... paid half of the $20 price tag he put on it... :D

Even better, got it home, opened it up (the band was off the wheels), it looks like it's been used to *maybe* take one cut out of a piece of OSB... plugged it in, had to recenter the upper wheel to keep it from throwing bands... runs like the proverbial raped ape, solid from oh-so-slow to rock-n-roll.

All I need now are metal cutting bands. And space to set it up somewhere!

Thanks. Yeah I was shocked that it was for sale for only $20. It has this plug ImageUploadedByTapatalk1440535173.938875.jpg
and the only 220 outlet in my garage is a 5-30R (I think) for my welder. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1440535394.848491.jpg

I'm going to install a dedicated circuit for my compressor anyway but I can't test this guy until I do so. I guess I can put a different plug end on it for now but that seems like a waste of money.

Don't know how big your shop is but I would put the other 220 outlet on the other side and set it up so either the welder or the compressor can plug into it.

Yes that's probably a better idea. Then I can just use the current outlet for the compressor since it will sit under that bench.

Last weekend's estate sale/flea finds:

pic 1: Williams combo wrenches 15/16 - 1-1/4"
pic 2 : all Williams, 1/2" drive and wrenches
pic 3 : Old Ford pliers with screwdriver/prying handle
pic 4/5 : Blackhawk Freewheeling 1/2" ratchet
pic 6 :Misc. Snap On, Plomb, Cornwell, Starrett, Mayhew, Vise Grip,Proto,S-K, HK Porter jaws
pic 7 : Pepsi-Cola and Simon Pure wall mount bottle openers

Paid up for the Williams stuff but a few good deals this week. The Blackhawk ratchet was $2 at the flea market. I think the seller thought it was broken. Ford pliers were $1.

The Pepsi Cola opener was screwed to the wall at an estate sale and hidden behind something. The seller said $1 and there's another one in the house for $1. I said sold!

3bay - Nice find on the large Williams. Love the bottle openers ! I have some new cast ones around my house. One out on the deck and one in the mancave. Now I just need to get one for the shop. Beats the heck out of searching for a churchkey.

I have several Coke bottle openers but they are repops, not vintage. My problem is, I'm too cheap for bottle opener beer, all my beer caps twist off

Good score on the big Williams!!

Hit a nice sale or two tonight after work. I hope this is a start to a good weekend. There's a monster tool auction this weekend. Any way I picked up this Penncraft tool box with a full set of Penncraft wrenches and a 3/8 drive with box Penncraft socket set . Also a tote full of bearings , drill bits and odds and ends. Maydole ball peen hammer, Cresent and Utica pliers.

The lady at the sale wanted 50 for the penncraft set , she said it has a "life time warranty" ... When I told her Jc Penny's doesn't sell tools any longer and the warranty wasn't any good she let me have it for 35:thumbup:

Also grabbed up this Wilton flip grip that put tonight's total at 48 bucks

Topop,

Nice Penncraft set...congrats! Who was the mfg. for Penncraft...was it JH Williams? Anyway...I can remember long ago browsing the tool section at Penney's. I also remember when they decided to get out of the tool business and they had it all on sale. I have a Penncraft adjustable wrench I bought new at their "going out of business" sale.

Twenty five cents bought a Bonney 3/8 drive ratchet today.

I was at an Estate Sale and there was a medium sized, skinny metal socket set box with some Bonney, Thorsen, other misc. small tools inside for the asking price of $8.00. I only wanted the ratchet so I brought it to the cashier explained where I found it and that from the box, that was all I wanted and she said...25 cents should do it. I gave her a quarter, a thank you and I was on my way.

NB at first , S-K later. Pretty sure this is a S-K made set. Do you happen to remember when it was when Penny's stop selling tools?

It's been a while, best I can recall is late 70's - early 80's. Back then, when you went to Sears there was always salesmen to help you find stuff but with Penny's it was pretty much self serve.

Take a look at this picture.

Is this a sale you would want to go to ?
Well, don't bother.

I spent my morning waiting in line at the wrong sale today based on that picture and the others like it. The basement of this house went on for miles. The sale was advertised as a "contractor's sale" but the whole thing was packed to the gills with HF ****. The prices for the few decent tools (off brands) were near retail and the HF stuff was priced the same.

The only thing I found that was worth looking at was a little Reed 103 hiding under a pile of trash on a bench in the back. Normally I wouldn't be interested in a 3" fixed base vise, but it was the only thing in there that wasn't junk, and it was a Reed. I expected them to demand $50 for it, but when they said they only wanted $20 I bought it just so my morning wasn't wasted (it was too late to get to the other sale by then).

BlueBomber - Be glad you missed this one.

I finally managed to get to a small estate on the first day. You guys have been killing it.
It was a older CM day for me.
First up, a tray with a lot of pin punches, chisels and some misc sockets.
6c85842f0c3e478e573e43153663df49.jpg

Picked up two ratchets, just like these, even though I don't need. They look like very little use, great shape.
cd79630b001a2687a3aa485835bff1c0.jpg

Then I spotted the 4" CM vise, not sure which one it is. It was bolted to bench and too cheap,to pass on. So,I grab a wrench off the table to unbolt, look at the wrench, a SO. It went in the $5 bundle.
2cb926ccc87bfd86a47e0f404b3777fa.jpg

Picked up a couple of Allen wrench sets, hex socket set, misc wrenches. A CM professional hard handle screwdriver set. The screwdriver was hard to turn down for $5.
7c922cceefddb9701529ee758f5d270b.jpg

Left a few CM wrench sets there, just flush with wrenchs

Hit a pretty good one today. A bunch of old tools, mostly early Ford stuff. One of the old hub pullers is fairly rare. About 25 lbs of assorted brass fittings, and another 25 lbs or so of brass round stock for lathe turning. Some assorted copper tubing, and some brass shim stock. Also an early Snap on ignition analyzer with the spark jump feature. Then a Snap on Growler armature tester. Couple other odds and ends for a grand total of 50 bucks.

Nothing on the schedule for today, will check tommorow's sales listings when I get back from the hockey game tonight. With hockey and our other Varsity Sports starting camps, my sale'ing weekends are getting to be close to done with for the year.
