Didn't get much but I got a few things today.

Echo pb-251 blower for $10
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1440785370.019438.jpg

Metal basket which will be perfect for small parts in my electrolysis tank for $1
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1440785412.707397.jpg

There was a black and decker bench grinder I should have bought but it was missing the side guards and shields. Oh well. I also missed some tools and a blacksmith vise.

Side of the road find.
Free light which I am going to mount to my drill press.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1440785457.776736.jpg
Free new vacuum filter. Not sure if it will fit my vacuum but I grabbed it just incase.

Nice score on the blower! I've been wanting to buy one of those, tired of sweeping grass clippings off my sidewalk, driveway and the block patio in the back.

Thanks. I have a corded one but have been wanting a gas powered one for a while. I just couldn't justify the cost of a new one.

Don: how heavy was that Goodyear sign? i couldn't think of a better spot to put it and i'll have to take a look at your awesome garage thread for more pictures of all your cool stuff. you have a great eye for some quality cool looking items.

CB: i can't say I've seen a Craftsman vise (or remember seeing one) with a big # on the dynamic jaw. it looks a little like European designs and the big #'s were (and are) what the Chinese and Taiwan imports put on their vises. you certainly didn't pay too much for it. nice find.

Jakemac - thanks for the tip! I was going to hit this up tomorrow but doesn't sound like it's worth the time. The pics on CL looked promising, but you never know what's in the boxes.

Here's my find from last week:
attachment.php

Price: Free. Got lucky with a quick reply on the CL free section.
The tool gods were good to me this week. I also scored a Delta Spindle Sander, a brand new Rockwell wall mount dust extractor, a few bosch router guides and 6 sets of industrial casters - all for free out of the CL free section. Doesn't happen often, but every once in a while you land a whale.

Take a look at this picture.

Is this a sale you would want to go to ?
Well, don't bother.

I spent my morning waiting in line at the wrong sale today based on that picture and the others like it. The basement of this house went on for miles. The sale was advertised as a "contractor's sale" but the whole thing was packed to the gills with HF ****. The prices for the few decent tools (off brands) were near retail and the HF stuff was priced the same.

The only thing I found that was worth looking at was a little Reed 103 hiding under a pile of trash on a bench in the back. Normally I wouldn't be interested in a 3" fixed base vise, but it was the only thing in there that wasn't junk, and it was a Reed. I expected them to demand $50 for it, but when they said they only wanted $20 I bought it just so my morning wasn't wasted (it was too late to get to the other sale by then).

BlueBomber - Be glad you missed this one.

I missed one earlier this week to another member. Saw this on CL for $85 but no phone listed. I didn't receive a response via email. Then I looked at the ad again and the seller changed it to $100 but still didn't add a phone number. So I searched eBay at it was on there listed as a 1/2 Hp with buy it now for $90. So I bought it.

Hit a lot of yard sales, but came up empty on Friday (8/28/15).

However, when I got home a fellow yard sales buddy stopped in.

He bartered the tools pictured below in exchange for a couple of vintage 12" metal green light shades of mine.

Tools were a Bemis and Call 10" adjustable wrench #48, 9 Auto wrench by Vlchek, A B573 Farm Wrench by Superior Drill Co, Fairmont Tongs/Seamers with W. F. Gammeter Co Cadiz Ohio marked on it, Whitney Metal Tool Co Punch/Riveter, Two Whitney Metal Tool Co tools with same No. A-141-A but one being the hand notcher, while other one is definitely different but only difference on the tools is one says R2 and other says R3. Mostly Japan taps in metal box and cast iron small metal melting pot for lead/glue, etc.

Took a close up of the metal hand tools, as buddy found something I didn't have in my inventory.

Yesterday a friend and I hit a yard sale that sounded with a workshop and backyard but was kind of disapointing when we got there, hardly any tools. I did pick up Blackhawk pliers, Proto and S-K screwdrivers, True Temper Rocket garden snips and a John Deere barrel with oil dry in it for $12 total.

Today was much better! First good sale had a lot of Craftsman 60's 70's and 80's tools in the package.
Craftsman Crown label torque wrench in the box and like new rasp, bags of Craftsman snap together tool holders, oil squirt can, spade bits, saw blades, 6" wire wheel for a bench grinder, 7" abrasive sanding discs and 7" Crown label sanding kit.

Other stuff there I picked up are a hanging weight scale, grinder shields, 2 Snap On screwdrivers, Xcelite nutdriver set, Cadillac made in USA knife and 1 of those screw together hammer.scredrivers.

$91 total.

The second good stop was already picked over but I still found some good stuff.
Operating instructions for Craftsman Alien planer, a weird double magnet thing in the upper left corner, old can openers from beer companies, Plomb T-bar, Bell System scissors, vintage tape measures, Starrett and Craftsman punches, a "Snoopy" tool for aircraft fasteners, wire cutters, hanging gram scale and 150" feet of 8" wide sandpaper.

I found a lone vise pipe jaw on a bench and after conversation ion with the guy turns out the vise was locked up in another room because he had no tools to get it off the bench. He agreed to let me check it out. It was a nice little open screw Columbian with the other pipe jaw still on it AND the little cutter for the anvil area. SCORE! I paid $24 for the whole lot.

There is some suckage in there :thumbup Love all that Crown stuff man, you really hit the jackpot on that one! Post up the manual on that planer please!

I was alerted about wooden planes being at an estate sale, so I went to the website for the dealer, surveyed all the pictures, and these were the only ones that I found.

I had talked with the dealer several times an stated that I would like to have some molding planes made of wood, so I was expecting a number of molding planes, and just possibly, a set of hollows and rounds. Imagine my surprise when I walked into the sale this morning and found these.

I just about dropped the jointer trying to get it into my large canvas bag. There were other planes too, but I only picked these two - the little guy is a no name:

i selected a couple of layout tools - second one of these English-made dovetail markers I've found recently.

The regular hand saws were in poor shape, but these two were worth bringing home - a little cleanup on the Tyzak, and it'll be in fine shape:

No. 80 scraper and #52 spokeshave also found their way into the bag.

Warrington hammer and tap & die parts will also come in handy.

Then, on the floor, I found this tool roll - Ashley Isles carving set - couldn't leave it there either - some surface rust cleanup and they'll be ready for service.

Finally, when I was checking out, the dealer handed these to me and said, "I don't know what to do with these, so you take them.'

It's was a fun day!

4 planned stops this morning, but only the first had anything worth grabbing.

Pic 1 - $3
a pr of Ladder Mitts
Craftsman 9-4110 4-way offset flathead screwdriver (Crown Top)
Bonney #T8 3/8dr 9/16" crowfoot
SnapOn 5ASA awl
SnapOn FX18 3/8dr 18" extension (1988)

2 TOO's - The first one yielded a ride-in car for my nephew for $5 (no picture)

Pic 2 - $20
The second one (moving sale) had a 4gal Ash Vacuum. I have 4 fireplaces and 1 woodstove. I don't like using my shopvac because the clean-out ***** (no pun intended), so this will see it's share of use. The new price on this model is $149, but it gets bad reviews due to filter clogging. I figured that for a Jackson, I can take my chances.

Crazy traffic today. Trying to get to sales was insane. Found a few things and then went home. Not worth getting into an accident with all the crazed drivers trying to get somewhere.

Klein spike wrench. Owner selling it was in his 80's and told me he used it to build submarines at Electric Boat. Kinda cool knowing it was used in the process of building nuke subs. Guy probably worked with my grandfather who was a welder there. I was going to talk with him more but I think he had alzheimers. He suddenly got confused and couldn't remember and his daughter had to talk for him. I didn't want to cause any issues so I just dropped the subject.

That red hose on the handle has to go...

Nice fan! I have a very similar GE fan. Moves quite a bit of air for its size and will probably outlive me even if used everyday.

Just one sale today, hit it kinda late so I'm sure I missed some stuff. Not all tools but I think they are tool related. One AC zippo, garden hose nozzle with pressure regulator, CM socket, and a BNIP starter solinoid. All for $1.50ImageUploadedByTapatalk1440874620.660800.jpg

Stopped in at a garage sale on the way home today and found a SUN inductive timing light that had never been used for $6.00 and a cool miniature pipe wrench that I ened up getting for $.90.

Edited to add: First time using photo bucket...how do you resize these things?

I planned out my route last night and I did a ****** job, arrived too late at every good sale today, but still picked up a few decent things.

First place I got at too late I saw an Echo GT-225 string trimmer on the ground, by far not their best model but for 50$ kind of hard to pass up since I need one. I start looking at it and some guy taps me on the shoulder "I just bought that" Nice.

Second place I get at too late, I see the seller and the new owner wrestling a Craftsman Crown Top hip roof cantilever box full of tools and another box full in the trunk of the guys car, bit rich for my blood at 220$ for both but I bet there was some good stuff in there. Still had a bunch of hand carry boxes full of tools and I looked through them and picked up a few things in this first run there for 10$:

5468 Proto Professional USA 1/2" drive 18" breaker bar
Williams USA S-52 Superratchet 1/2" drive
5463 Proto Professional USA 1/2" drive 10" extension
Craftsman USA -v- 3/8" drive 10" extension

This stuff really makes me wish I had a peak inside the other two boxes. There was also an old blue cantilever box that piqued my interest full of sockets and stuff for 40$, had some quality stuff inside but some Japan and wasn't sure about it.

Went to check another sale and the seller had 3 1/2" Sears made in India vise for 10$, should have offered 5$ for it, if only to give it to a friend of mine who doesn't have a vise, but I didn't. Wasn't really feeling all that great this morning and I'm convinced it lost me stuff. Same thing happened when I went to pick a picker and just didn't feel like digging through bins of tools to find stuff, eh.

That's all I managed to find in town so I went for a drive to check out the 2 vises I posted about in the Vise thread yesterday. Get there and obviously she sold both the (possibly) import double swiveler and the blacksmiths vise, which I wasn't going to buy originally but had convinced myself to on the way there. Stayed there for a while to check things out, Lady's now deceased husband was a collector/hoarder and had a lot of cool stuff, and some of it was housed in a 300 year old barn, very cool place. Ended up buying a cheap imported (I think) drill press vise (since I didn't have on in the first place and they go for like 40$ at Princess Auto) and a Ford combo wrench for 10$

I guess I have a soft spot for Ford now that my Grandfather is gone, he must be having a laugh at me buying Ford tools after preaching GM and Chevy stuff all my life. And I'm actually considering buying a Ford truck :wtf:

After I left there I went back to the previous place and dug through a box of wrenches I had overlooked the first time around and came up with this stuff for another 10$

Challenger by Proto Canada metric combo set, from 9mm to 19mm only skipping the 18mm. Been needing a 2nd set of metric combos so this was perfect.
Heyco BMW branded DOE 12mm/13mm and 17mm/19mm
Snap-On Canada 1/2 9/16 DBE
Snap-On USA 7/16 1/2 DBE, 1995 date code
Snap-On Canada 9/16 and 11/16 Combo's
Gray 1/2 combo I needed to fill out a set (Didn't notice it was a G coded one, so I guess I'll have to buy another one :D )
Forgot the
Fiddled around a bit more with the blue cantilever box from earlier and the seller's father came up to me and told me it was his and he had bought it in Germany (Hmmm... Hazet?) It seemed flimsy a bit but I chalked that up to age and loose rivets. Decided to head back home and come back because I had seen some Gray wrenches I tought I might need to fill out a set but I wasn't sure which ones.

Came home and went back, and guess what wasn't there to greet me. Obviously in the 15 minutes it took me someone came by and scooped up the maybe-Hazet box. :shocking: Grabbed the 1/2" Gray in the last picture which is the only one I found that I needed and called it a day.

I sucked today but not for the good reasons. Haha.

Just noticed I forgot to mention the 5280 Proto LA 3/8 Speeder in my last picture.

If this is something you'd need for your Rotomat twertsy, let me know. I instantly tought of you when I saw it.

I'll throw this up there to give me hope in the face of my near-misses today. We have this bench grinder on a workbench at our rink on campus. Campus Security has been going around doing their yearly safety inspections and I swear to god they get worse and worse every year. This thing has likely been there for 30 years and now they say they want it removed because it doesn't have eye guards. Anyways, the rink maintenance manager told me that and I told him he better tell me if they end up 'throwing it away' so I may or may not end up with this for free.

Today's pile box of wrenches and screwdrivers that need a cleaning. Found a Husky ratchets No.1 in there. Couple of sets of cast iron wheels, old Bitburger keg. Plomb Los Angeles box no dents looks like army green on the inside. $30 for the lot

I purchased a kennedy 2 drawer mc28 with round corners. Some rust but im planning on restoring it later on. It has a Douglass aircraft badge on the front. It had few tools but most are rusty. I paid 25 for it. Im having trouble loading more than one pic at a time. Ill try later on my computer.

I hit 2 estates and 5 garage sales with little SuKcess . Then I went to the biggest auction in this area for 2 years or more. Running 2 rings and selling a massive collection it was a good day. Bids were high and deals were hard to come by because some real big spenders were on hand. I think at least 2 guys had to be in the 10K range...:wtf:. I on the other hand stayed well below that at 191.00 for the day.
Guys I just got way too much stuff to list each item so I'm gona keep it general and hit some high points.
Thorsen 1/2 set
S-K sae and metric 3/8 set
Broad axe
12 lb bad *** hammer
Heller file holder w/ all 5 files new in the box
A. Winterhagen bench clamp Vise that looks like a post vise but it has 2-1/4" jaws
several Stanley , Keen Kutter, Craftsman , Bernards tools. As well as Butcher bros. and Richards bros and sons from the 1800's Sheffield , England

Bagged89s10, get those aluminum filled wheels off that grinder before you use it. That is an accident waiting to happen. Wheel could easily explode when heated. Just sayin'.

Nice score though.
