A year ago, stopped at a yard sale and bought an oak ice box. Had the usual 4 coats of paint, including couple of coats of paint over the original zinc interior.

What was amazing was the paper factory tag was still intact on back, so knew it was a Seeger made in St. Paul Minn and Model #30.

My wife has wanted one for years, but either price or condition kept me from buying.

Finally got it finished, so wanted to share with the group and used several tools and items from yard sales, to get it done.

Goal now is to get/make a block of ice and see how well it works!!!

love it :rocker:

Had a great time picking tools at the flea market on Sunday. Got some neat stuff. Total spent was $64 on everything.

pic 1-2:
Craftsman 1/4-inch electric drill, cost $10. Works great! Model is 315.7730, I can't find a manual online for it, but I have a 1950 Craftsman catalog with it listed in there. I love these old metal-housing power tools....

pic 3:
Wrenches and stuff - Lectrolite DBE, pair of Controlled Steel DOEs, couple no-name DOEs, a box of NOS General Electric bulbs, and a pair of Utica pliers

pic 4:
Stanley "Handiman" 8-inch adjustable wrench, a Billings & Spencer Model 97 bicycle wrench (my first), a MAC 3/4" combo, a pair of no-name "S" wrenches, and 7 other no-name antique DOEs.

pic 5:
Pair of New Britain small ignition wrenches, pair of Proto screwdrivers, an Xcelite screwdriver with removable shaft, Wright combo wrench, Diamond crimpers of some type, oil can, JP Daniels angled pliers and a small tapered hammer marked "Bell System". First Bell System hammer of this type I've found...

pic 6:
Mixed lot of 12 Craftsman wrenches, including 1 old long-C Craftsman combo. Also a Craftsman punch.

pic 7:
Lots of sockets. About 56 of them, most are Craftsman, some Husky and Kobalt, and K-D, Klein, Penncraft, and Thorsen. All are USA made.

Love the bicycle wrench. Just got my first Frank Mossberg A-1 bicycle wrench this weekend too

Mike, that thing came out great!! My mom has one her uncle made when he first came to the US about a century ago that she restored. Her husband wanted to make an entertainment center out of it and drilled a hole for the wires in back, she said a **** ton of sawdust came out, apparently that is what he used for insulation... DO NOT drill a hole in it...

I just picked one up myself for $.90; when I did the research on it I found out it was made by the US Separator company out of VT and they made Cream Separators.

I'm kind of thinking it was part of the tool kit that came with the old cream separators they sold.

I had never heard of bicycle wrenches like that until I found this one.

nine4gmc:

Your right, these oak ice boxes were built before traditional refrigeration insulation, so they used other types of insulation such as sawdust to help insulate them.

The right side upper door on my Seeger is where ice block went, which the Seeger can accommodate an ice block that could be up to 22 inches tall, 12 inches wide and 16 inches deep.

On the Seeger, they also had an internal siphon system, that takes the melted water from the ice and ran it down an internal tube that exited at the bottom and into the drip pan put underneath it.

My goal is to get or make a block of ice around the maximum capacity for the Seeger, so can check how cool it will make the ice box and for what duration it might last.

Thanks for all the nice comments from everyone on GJ.

Great thank you. Alloy artifacts didn't show it as one of there logos. do you happen to know the era or date this logo was used?

I'm finally having a bit of luck. Today between classes I went to a pawn shop and found this old Black and Decker bench grinder and its a tank. I had them plug it in and its smooth, quiet and the spin down lasts for over a minute. They wanted $30 which is kind of high but I have been looking for one like this for a couple years so I snapped it up and am pretty happy with it.

Got this off CL the other day, it's not the best shape but it's pretty dent free and has foam drawer liners as well. Cost $10.

Picked these items up yesterday at a nearby Estate Sale. Proto 1/2 drive ratchet, Craftsman 1/4 drive because I always seem to need an extra one. Digging thru a box I found three usable Peterson Vise Grips that need a good cleaning. And the Early model Mustang gas cap and emblem just because I could not pass them up.
They had lots of tools but prices were high. Today is 50% off day so I may stop in to see what is left.

Mopar trucks, I`ve restored 2 of those B&D grinders. They're super smooth running. The 2 slotted screws on the upper section are for a small "T" handle, used to carry the grinder or to store the cord. Shouldn't be too hard to fab one.

I bought this today. It was a snap judgement but I figured I couldn't go to wrong. It is a Pratt & Whitney #1 milling/surface grinding machine. It is a table top mount with an attached original XY table. It has 4 belt speeds and runs on a leather belt. It has an original 1/2 HP GE 115V motor, single phase.

I was told it was a surface grinder. I need to put a shield on it (lexan I think for safety) other than that it is ready to go.

What do you guys think? I paid $100 for it. It works great, just needs a good clean up.

He also had a 1 to 3 phase converter for 115 V with a double electric motor setup he wanted $100 for as well but I just don't know what I would use it for. Should I have picked it up???

Good stuff at that sale. I got a few items there yesterday and went back today as well. Maybe just before you as I did not see the guy you mention. I still have to sort mine out and take pictures from todays purchases.

I don't know about the phase converter, Joe, but that surface grinder is pretty sweet. I'm diggin' the early Pratt & Whitney hardware!
