I saw this box at a garage sale and thought, How neat - I could use it to organize some of the random hole saws that are just rattling around in a drawer - and only a buck!
Picked it up and it seemed kinda heavy. Opening it, lookie dere!
Missing the large mandrel and a couple of saws, with a duplicate, but most of the saws are new, and there are two spare pilot bits.
Naturally I had to go buy the large two-pin mandrel, but to my surprise, Lenox makes one that fits a 3/8" chuck, something I'd been wanting for years. So I put the new mandrel with my everyday set of Milwaukees, and put the Milwaukee 1/2" mandrel in the Lenox set to leave at home, where mostly it'll be used on the drill press. I even have a couple of duplicate saws to fill out the Lenox set.

Got this stuff from an estate sale. The calipers are starrett. The surface gage spindles are marked starrett but base in not marked. The protractor and square head are not marked but protractor has Pat. Aug. 7 1883 stamped on it. Also got ,but not pictured, a starrett 4" spring caliper and 3" rule. $25

The protractor and square head are not marked but protractor has Pat. Aug. 7 1883 stamped on it.

Only one patent for Starrett that day (of the 25 awarded).

Hit a few sales today, First one not much for tools but I spotted this tool box combo on the way out. Thought it might be Kennedey but nope. But for $5 for both I picked it up to fill full of off-brand tools for sale on Craigslist.

Second one had a cool old Marx train set for $15. I will post pics later when I get it partially set up.

3rd one I was waiting on had seen a 1970's Craftsman workbench in nice looking condition in the preview pics. It will match my late 60's/early 70's Craftsman boxes nicely! It even has the Crown logo keys included. Also picked up tools there.

Starting with the Craftsman yard stick to the right are Craftsman large screwdriver, =V= extension and universal, chisel, underlined Craftsman C1 wrenches and Circle H breaker bar and six sockets plus the case. Next in the pic are Crescent USA made bent nose needle nose pliers, J.P. Danielson adjustable, Diamond Calk Horseshoe adjustable, Durochrome sliding T-handle, Husky socket, Indestro socket, Proto pliers, P&C offset wrench, Rampart Tool for leather?, 3 Plomb universals, S-K spark plug socket, BluePoint offset wrench, Snap-On Ferret T handle, socket and punch, Thorsen extension, open gear ratchet WITH the metal cover and wrench and an X-Acto mini miter box and saw. In back is a Craftsman handi-cut, two body dollies, TSP for electrolysis and some WD-40. Total was $97.50

Treasures from this months industrial auction that I just picked up today.

The real prize was the Craftsman horizontal band saw. I've been hunting one this size for a very long time and this should be perfect for my small garage. Someday it may get a cart with wheels but for now it's sorta perfect that it's bench top size so I can leave it mounted to the plank and stored until needed then pulled out and secure to a bench.
Also picked up a used HF grinder which is already out to use with wire wheels. My ancient contraption motor/arbor finally gave up the ghost after 60 years plus.
I also got a group of 5 braided wire wheels and one is now mounted to the HF.
A Craftsman 3/8 drive air ratchet, A box with a couple small fluorescent task lights, a box of power strips and a 20" x 36" x 1/2 inch thick steel plate. It was a measly $10 and I could not let it pass. As it turns out a friend who is building a small welding table wants it so perfect ending as it gets put to good use.

Thanks and keep searching. I passed up a lot that were either too expensive, too large for my garage or too much of something I didn't need. Finally the right one at the right price came along.

Same here Jake, there are two local , neither a craftsman brand and both over priced. One is really large, can't remember the brand but they are asking $800 so it's not important anyway, the other is a HF and they want $200 for it... I can't get a break... I'm dying to find a craftsman like that, I dunno what I'd pay or trade for one but I imagine I would try my best to own it if I ran into one in person...

Havn't seen many bandsaws around here. I picked up my 7 x 12 for $100, works good except the lube system is inop. Trying to remember the brand name Jet?

Most prominently, a Morse cutting tools fraction/decimal equivalent chart. Made of metal. Phone # listed is GA 2-1601.

Next, a Cleveland Twist Drill cast iron fractional drill index No. 50 1/16-1/2".

Craftsman BE 1/4 drive breaker bar. Missing the t-handle. AA says this was made by New Britain.

Tiny Bonney 1/4" angle wrench. Marked E2BONCVNEY (cv inside a circle) Made in USA on front. Chrome -Vanadium on rear. 2" long

Wright 2475 1/4 universal

Lever action corkscrew made in Italy

Lufkin Rule Co. 8" round leg spring dividers. Some very light surface oxidization should clean up nicely.

Craftsman # 4116 ratcheting mini screwdriver.

Dewitt-made 5WR Vise Grips in nearly new condition.

Last but not least a nearly immaculate Goodell Pratt No. 438 fish tail. This looks brand new. Says "Goodell - Pratt Co. Greenfield Mass. USA" on reverse "60 degree Tempered and Lapped made in USA. " very good shape for being at youngest 84.

I've been having quite a bit of success selling my finds on Ebay over the past two weeks. So after a trip to the post office to mail off more sales, I allowed myself to take the long way home and swing by a few yard sales.

I found two partial bottles of liquor at one sale for $5 each. The non-alcoholic screwdriver was free.



At the second sale, they had this 8 inch Craftsman King Seely table saw, model 103.22161 in mid-50s Power Bronze. It came with a matching half horsepower Craftsman motor that plugged in and spun like a top. No fence or miter slide, but the seller thinks they may be back in the garage and will call me if he finds them. The surface is crusty, but should clean up with a little work. Asking price was $25 but I got to "Sold!" with a $20 offer. It wasn't until I got home that I noticed the box the motor was in and what else was in the box. Check out the vintage 1954 copyright handbook from Sears on how to choose an electric motor. I love the illustrations!

Unfortunately, I'm going in the wrong direction on the number of table saws in my garage. I may part this one out, as 8-inch saws don't command much resale, even fully restored.

Didn't have much time this morning. Had 4 planned stops but only managed to make it to one. Guy had a lot of cool things but his pricing was all over the place. Didn't have much time to sort through stuff and/or haggle but I picked up these three pieces for 8$
SK 1/4" thumb wheel ratchet
Craftsman =v= 1/4" breaker bar I needed to finish a set off
Cornwell USA 1/4" ratchet, first Cornwell piece I ever find.


He had a lot of Challenger by Proto sockets, a pair of Proto locking pliers and some other cool things I would have bought but I didn't really have the time to sort through his boxes of stuff.

I went to a bunch of tag sales with my son and father today. He bought a toro s120 blow blower for $10 and a bathroom in wall vanity for $5

I got some cool stuff for cheap today.
Old school Weber gas grill for $3.50. It's very clean.

A cord reel for $2. I have one ext cord that always ends up on the floor in the garage so this should help keep it in order.

The badass steelcase stool on wheels for $2.50. Originally from the Connecticut dept of labor. This thing blows away my current craftsman stools I have in the garage.

Garage sales here are crazy good in my town! There was more today than the last couple weeks. I have been bringing home a car full and spending too much the last few weeks so I decided to take a break on sales until next year. I have enough projects to last me for a while...

But I could use a new Camelbak for downhill biking, and this one sale said they had one... I'll just go to this one...


All at this one sale!
$10 for 3/4 block grinder
$10 for Oakley goggles
$5 for Cabinet
$10 for shimano hydration backpack
He had a lot more great stuff but nothing I really needed and I am trying to cut back. I saw Blue Bomber was back at it today so I don't feel bad!


Dusty but mostly complete. Relatively smooth. The tag contains only the model, serial # and sears?


And the mtb stuff.

Backpack was never used with plastic wrap and tags.

The cabinet/organizer was full of useful-ish junk

The grinder runs smooth enough and the height is right so i'll use it as a base for the grinder! The drawers I'll use to store buffing and grinding wheels, and sort all my round sandpaper by grit.

Wow 3/4 Hp! You ****. And that cabinet too!

Nice pickup on the cabinet and the $10 3/4 grinder. You ****! Went to a few today myself, I feel I'm finally starting to turn the corner- passed on a 1/2 horse 50's vintage B&D grinder, and some small vises at a couple of different sales. Also passed on an old tool chest spray bombed blue, might have been an old huot. Managed to pick up a MAC long reach screwdriver model PM114A for a buck.

Estate sale today at my old house (sold it 15 years ago). The husband died of cancer several months ago and his wife sold the house. This was more of a sentimental purchase for me since Larry was a really nice guy. Picked all five cabinets for $120 and got the consignors to throw in the vise that was marked $25.

Let me know how to adjust the chair height. I don't want to break it.

Mine has a screw in the ring under the seat, loosen the screw and spin the seat up/down to the desired height, then tighten the screw to hold it that height.

The stuff on top was separate, the 3 bags in front were in the drawers of the box. The bags are so full that I'll have to sort them outside because I don't have the room for pictures in the shop.

On Friday (9-18-15), hit some yard sales.

At first, picked up a 1979 version Craftsman 3 drawer with pop up top tool box.

At another sale, picked up a USA made Champion Model 2006 top tool box with 6 drawers.

At another sale, bought two closed end Inline shelving units made by Supreme Equipment Systems Corp.

Next sale got 7 clamps, most being Cincinnati Tool, Couple packages of Craftsman 3/8 and 1/2 drive socket racks and bundle of blank hammer handles.

Next got couple of files, Millers Falls low angle block plane #56B, Sharpening Stone, unused file handle by General, a 1/8 to 5/8 OD tubing cutter by Superior Tool Company of Cleveland OH and a Craftsman circular saw.

Last two pics are of a Van Dorn 7" Quick Saw Serial #705044 made in Towson MD.

Unfortunately, only three SK sockets 40130, 40119 and 40114 plus one SK ratchet 42470 found among all the other misc mfg sockets, ratchets and extension bar. Still bought it, but definitely reason you have to go through all contents to be sure what you are buying.
