So, I had 4 planned stops today. The first two were a bust so I decided to go up to the estate sale from thursday to see what was left on the last day. I'll get back to that in another post.

I'll start with the last stop. The ad had no street address, just the street name. Well, it turns out that my GPS wouldn't recognize the street name. The "street" turned out to be a lakeside path winding around converted summer cottages. There was barely enough room for one car to pass or get around the corners, but it was two-way traffic. All the tools were newer Craftsman and Husky and the guy was telling people how good the quality was. If I had bit my tongue any harder, I would have bled out and expired on his lawn.

Still, I picked up a few pieces.

Pic 1 - $2
a few small Craftsman picks and drivers
3/8 socket rail (to cut down to hold a set of crowsfeet)

Just before the last sale was an estate sale. I didn't find much, but one of the customers was a guy that also has an estate sale company (when he isn't running his auction house). He needed help getting a woodworker's bench out of the cellar and into his truck. I volunteered. We'll see if that softens his prices at his next estate sale. ;)

Pic 2 - $2
1-1/2" hand vise labeled G.F. (germany)
and a 10" bottle opener made in Italy (just for the humor, I want to see the bottle of beer it opens :lol_hitti)

Between the first two stops and the last two, I went back to thursday's estate sale and found .............................
(to be continued)

Not a garage sale, but a flea market today.

$10 for the pair of Peterson Vice Grips that are fairly nice.

I think I had to give $8 or $10 for the Klein adjustable.

Everything else pictured was $10 or $12 for the rest of it, except the files, I paid $1 for the pair at a garage sale on the way there.

The big needle nose is a Snap On, the small is a Jensen.

Plomb 3/8" speed handle, Firestone is the one without the knob.

Plomb 1/2" swivel, OTC big socket, Stanley 22mm small socket (to be used on old Yamaha snowmobiles), Yamaha 22mm/29mm combo wrench.

Dunlap small wrench set (plus cheap looking extras), C-man t-handle and highly customized 5/8" combo, etc.

No names on the tap handle, 2 jaw puller, or metal hammer.

Not bad for $31.

Well I just had to get some IG today at a estate auction two hours away.
Only tool photo of the sale was of this box.
Well, not enough people show for a auction, so to get the box I had buy it as part of a lot. It had tools in it, but I was just after the box. Spent more than I wanted, but these size boxes don't come around much. No I'd on it, looks like Lista, a medical unit, as the drawer latches are stainless and I,ve found some medical stuff in the bottom.
6ab551c3b49d296435160993a1d80a25.jpg

The Mega cab came in handy to stack the drawers. I gave the auction crew a work out. They thought they was going to just lift the box with the drawers in it.

Some of the contents.

d7ecf96f83bb3622d81e000fd511648b.jpg

Part of the lot includes a bolt bin, which I'll flip, and a rack for part boxes.

A Waterloo box.

A Ridgid shop vac, complete with attachments.
44e0cea64ae42813b316bb6f41e643df.jpg

The sale guy wouldn't budge on his lot price, but would keep adding stuff, like the shop vac. There was a milwakie 3 battery charger with two batts on the table. I found the drill in the box, as the guy was treating me good, I told him I was getting the drill to put with the charger. He gave me the charger!
All in all , I'm happy with the box, as it was a $ 600 trip. All the cm wrenches are us.

OK, here it is -

I went back to thursday's estate sale to see if the Kennedy roller was still there, and see if the price had gone down. The original asking price was $180 for the box and all the tools. Not a bad price, but more than I wanted to spend since I was only interested in the box and the bodyworking tools. If it was still there, my plan was to offer $120 (knowing that I'd probably buckle and pay $150 depending on what tools were left inside the drawers). Imagine my surprise when I showed up early and was let into the garage to see a lower price on the box. The tag now read $80 ! SOLD ! I even had money left over to overpay on another item I wanted. So, here it is -

Pics 1-3 - $80
Kennedy #273 3-drawer bottom box w/key and drawer dividers ("Y" style handles) (18"d x 27"w x 35"h)
(this will be paired with my 29" 7-drawer to make a lathe bench until I find another 29" bottom to replace it)

The drawers were loaded with a lot of good stuff

Pic 4
some of the names were :
_____SnapOn, Herbrand, Kraeuter, Utica, Craftsman, Thomas-Betts, Brown & Sharpe, H.H. Sticht (switzerland), Lufkin, Starrett, Stanley, and a few lesser names.

This group includes :
SnapOn # K-4 speed wrench (1963)
Herbrand pickle fork
Starrett #530 25' tape (in box)

Pic 5
names in this batch are :
_____S-K, Herbrand, Cincinnati, Gedore (germany) King ****, Britool, Bedford, Utica, Allen, and some unknowns.

Included in this group :
a complete set of S-K metric combo wrenches, 7mm - 22mm in a yellow roll (includes 16mm & 18mm, but no 20mm)
Herbrand Body hammers and unusual dollies
the largest hex wrench is 15" long

Pic 6
what's left
_____files, wires, and misc.

The only trash I found in the drawers was a cap from a magic marker.

And now the teaser from a previous post .....................
(see my next post)

Hit a few sales yesterday and today...

Yesterday found a well beat Craftsman non-ball bearing set for $50. Had to do some work on a number of the drawer slide supports to make them work OK. But it fits under the work bench and is for stuff that does not get used often, so NBD.

Found a nicer, Craftsman ball bearing slide chest today, again $50. No casters and 4" of the side/back walls of one back corner have been chopped of at some point, no doubt to make it fit somewhere. No casters was fine as I wanted it to fit under a workbench. Cleaned it and its foam drawer liners up and loaded it up. With these two chests I hereby declare that my chest hunting days are over! No place to put any more. Only upgrades from now on...:D

Last one was a very large box of drawer slides and some other random stuff for $10:

Didn't see squat as far as tools went today. But then again, I was late to most of the "parties" I attended.

Did manage a couple of things on my want list....which is always a plus.

Eureka Mighty-mite vacuum with attachments and an old Sony portable radio/cassette player(you youngsters won't understand). 5 bucks each.

Eurekas been making basically the same vacuum since the mid 80's. I've got another older one that I've used for years. This one will be for the vehicles and work.

Got the radio for work and out in the yard. Believe it or not I've still got some cassettes.:eyecrazy:

You, sir, are incorrigible.
:headshake

No, just preoccupied (maybe :p).

And now the teaser from a previous post .....................

Alright, here's the last of it.
Since I saved so much on the Kennedy box, I decided to spend it on an item that I drooled over but couldn't afford to buy on thursday. A Craftsman tap and die set in a wooden box - complete ! :bounce:

The latches are broken, and the paint is crazed, but the set is in great shape otherwise. They didn't lower the price for the last day, so I had to pay $50. (Pics 1-3)

I also found 2 Cincinnati deep 4-1/2" clamps with the winged screw for another $10. (pic 4)

All told, I spent $140 at this stop.

This was the largest haul (by volume) that I've ever had. It turned out to be a good day. Definitely made up for yesterday.

cbacres, that waterloo is definitely medical, you can tell by the bumpers around the bottom, I would assume that Lista looking one is also if it came from the same auction.

Nine - The handles and taps are stamped "CRAFTSMAN", the small half-dies are all stamped "Little Giant". The screw-in dies are un-branded.

Here's a pic of the label on the inside of the lid.

Congrats on finding a Columbian C43-1/2

When I was looking for info on the C44, found that the box/packaging they sold it in was used also for the C43 and C43-1/2.

Here is a link to that packaging from Ebay.

It would have a round cutout in the middle for a glass and a compartment on each side for tea.

RADcustom:

I'll try and get some pics of inside of box and repost them, but no cutouts or compartments inside now.

However, it could have be modified for another purpose over the years.

Nines, thanks for that info, I was wondering what the ring frame was for.

If the large one is not a Lista, it is something very comparable to and just as heavy.

Now I just need to decide what I'm going to use for.:lol_hitti:lol_hitti
I have plenty of uses, just not sure which one. I've always wanted to use as a main hand tool rollaway, to get all the same type tool in one drawer.
I may get brave and ask for opinions :scared:in a separate thread.

Shot the attached pictures of the inside of the inlay box, but don't see any evidence where wood shows evidence of partitions for a tea caddy.

However, things can be altered, so not ruling it out.

So I'm down in Virginia today. Can any of you NoVa members confirm that the estate sale on Ebenezer Church Rd in Stafford is a totally picked over waste of my time and one a guy who's trying to quit/cut back/keep under control shouldn't bother with?
http://fredericksburg.craigslist.org/gms/5228671823.html
Nevermind. It looks like the infamous I-95 traffic will decide for me. Eager to hear if anyone else made it there this weekend.
