Relax, Dodge610, I'm only going out when other people need me to be out. If we need to build up driving time, we might as well do something productive with the road mileage.



So, I will admit to still checking the on-line ads for sales and plotting for ways to get to them on the weekends. But I am resisting the urge to depart the house at dawn for multi-stop treks that fill the back of the truck.

Really, I'm much better.

Just messin with you BB planning my next attack as we speak. Been sorta slow up this way for now.

Thanks guys, They also had a similar era belt sander, portable band saw, and a really clean table saw on the original stand as well as a big Craftsman Lathe. But I'm getting tight on space as it is, so I had to pass on those. Also passed on a bunch of well-used aluminum-cased power tools. I showed up at 1130- the guy running the sale told me "you shouldve been here at 10" I can only imagine what else I may have missed, but I was happy to see the press was still there, that was the main item I was interested in.

Kinda slow out here this past couple weeks - just haven't had the time to go to many fleas and garage sales with all the work I've had. Did get out to the local flea market today, saved a good handful of tools:

Pics 1-3 all for $15
- Proto goodies - 3 screwdrivers, 2 nutdrivers, 2 flare nut wrenches, a set of feeler gauges and 11 sockets of various sizes.
- Snap-On stuff - pair of "vacuum-grip' needle nose pliers (conveniently supplied with rubber hose handle cushions), 4 combination wrenches, and a pair of sockets
- misc. USA tools - Craftsman 7/8 combo wrench, pair of Ford-marked DOE wrenches, Reece "S" wrench, Tru-Fit DOE, clevis hook, Vaco stubby nutdriver and a long-C Craftsman socket

Pics 4-5: only $15
Kennedy 1018 cantilever tool box, finished in hammertone grey (???). I thought most of these were in wrinkle brown, this is the first in grey I have seen. Good condition inside and out, I needed a new toolbox for the work truck and this will fit the bill.

Ok, finally got a chance to take some pics of the items I picked up yesterday- I was hoping to find a press with the Vari-slow option, just didn't realize it would be so soon.. Only had to wait a week. Got everything below for $230. The band saw was too nice to pass up, the previous owner set up the multi-speed pulley for it.

I stopped at that same sale yesterday between the time you bought the drill press and picked it up. Saw it there with the SOLD tag. This is the sale where i picked up the Starrett caliper, center punch, and rule.

Heck of great deals you guys are getting, The belt sander i bought today at the local flea market for 30. Been looking for one for awhile now, and the price was right. I found the anvil at a yard sale a few months ago. 175lb Hadfield and Sanderson Sheffield England.

I stopped at a garage sale on the way home from Menards yesterday. For 1 buck I grabbed an old paper towel dispenser. I am going to paint it and add some graphics, maybe a Rat Fink or a CARtoons decal. Also bought an old Big Boy Barbecue Book for 50¢. Looking at the Equipment Check List on page 7, it looks like I may have forgotten an important item during all my years of grilling........ Asbestos Gloves. Doh!!

Well I already have them sorted into my mixed sets to complete them... Figure about 35 deep wells and 70 shallows. About 1/2 were US made. Maybe 15 snap ons and a bunch of craftsman

Dropped by my cousins for some grilling and beer earlier. These were waiting by the curb along with some furniture and about 5 other motors. Grabbed the 1\4 Century motor because of the look and base. The monster wrench was in a bucket of lamp parts. Whats the deal with the wrench? Never seen the style? Anyone still make them like that? I cant make out the name through the rust, but I will.

Local towing company was having a sale of stuff they ended up with after towing cars, so I stopped by and found a toolbox with some Craftsman tools for $10.

Three different generations of ratchets, SAE combo wrench set missing the 1/2" wrench, a few SAE sockets, a few metric combos and sockets, SAE and metric Allen wrench sets, pliers and a few screwdrivers.

Also saw a large hacksaw (blade 24" inches long?), but it was rusty and I had no idea where I might find blades for it.

And after a quick wipedown. Still more cleanup needed.

I have that exact one! I bought it new roughly 25 years ago!

I don't usually flip tools - mostly I only sell when I have to buy a larger lot to get what I want. But, this time, at a flea market I get to now and then I spotted a ratty Hunoz tool box marked $7. Figured it was empty, but a nudge with a toe proved otherwise. I opened it up and a glance revealed mostly rusty junk, but with some decent sockets. I went to the vendor and pulled my wife out of my pocket, saying she threatened mayhem if I brought home one more tool box full of junk. There were only a few things I wanted anyway, so I offered $3 (nearly half the asking price!) for my choice of up to ten items, and she keeps the box. She readily agreed, after making sure by an "item" I didn't mean a set!
I picked out a Wizard 1/2" drive ratchet and 7 1/2" drive sockets just because I figured I could resell for more than that. I added 2 3/8" drive sockets and an extension that I had lying around, and tonight sold the batch for $37. Take off $6 for shipping, and I'm still happy. Not big bucks, but sure a big percentage!

Not really from a garage sale, but I helped a neighbor clean up his basement, for helping he gave me some hammer drill equipment. I thought would be nice to have. When I took the drills out of the box of stuff, I noticed the power cords were frayed, so I haven't powered up yet. I really don't need another project now, so I will probably end up selling them anyways.

Hey ZKling: thanks for reply. I should have been more clear. I don't have a current need for the drills, but I had wanted to run them to see what all is needed. I know the larger one needs some chuck work at least. I will wire up a temporary cord to see how they spin, but I've learned that it usually isn't just one thing that needs work on these older tools. I'll look for some drawings/manuals in the meantime.

Got these two Saturday on the State Highway 237 garage sale near Round Top TX. The 30 oz $2 hammer has no visible identification, cleaning it may reveal something but I just thought the head shape was interesting. It came with the custom two-screw wedge system. I might be able to save the handle by dropping the head maybe 1/4", recutting the shoulder, and chopping ~1/2" off the bottom.

The $12 drill is a Stanley No. 610 "100 Plus". Not appreciably valuable, but it looks 'George Jetson-ish' and I'd never seen one before. It kinda growls when turned so it will need some cleaning & lubing but not restoring. Handles are good.

Wasn't real impressed with the garage sale which is along SH 237 between Round Top and Warrenton TX. Pretty country though, my German ancestors settled nearby. Next time we'll go to Canton.
