Not a yard sale but my small city junk trash pickup tomorrow. Nice clean metal cabinet (and clean wire shelves not pictured) will become a basement paint storage cabinet. I needed the creepy creeper. I love this little 4" grinder, heavy for its size, old USA made. Works. Anyone have info on PET tools Chicago?

Picked up this 9 × 6 disc belt sander yesterday, 1983 model. Got it from original owner that took real good care of it, been looking for one for awhile, best deal I've run across $75

Got this Noga NF1033 mag base for $15. It has some rust, and there is a cracked plastic cap on the dovetail screw. However the locking mechanism, 360 degree swivel and fine adjust all work. It's so tiny! And $100 new on Amazon.

Also found This Keuffel + Esser Stevens Wyteface "A" 50 foot tape measure in original box. From what I can find K+E made drafting and surveying supplies.

Our local church had a yard sale fundraiser this morning. SWMBO wanted to go in, so we did. Plus, I sold both of my Power Bronze Craftsman table saws and the big laser level I'd picked months ago, so I felt okay to turn on "buying" mode a little.

I'd already scoped it out Thursday night during my son's Boy Scout meeting, and it was woefully short on tools, but we both found a few things.

Lee brand carving set - $24
2 Excelite nut drivers - $1
Vintage blacksmith tongs , $1.50
2 antique soldering irons - $1.50
Meals for Hikers book (not pictured) - 50¢
We rounded it up to $30 and called it good - it was a fundraiser after all.

SWMBO was up for more, so who was I to say no? :) We ended up going to an estate sale in Bolton, about 20 minutes away, advertising 40 years of tools and other antiques. It turned out to be a family run event, and also the second & last day, so picking were slim, but prices were reasonable.

We found this Craftsman 4-stroke mini edger/rototiller for $50, and got him to throw in the rest of our treasures with the deal.

Disston & Sons 1896-1920s two-handed swayback saw
Disston & Sons crosscut swayback saw 1920s - 1940s
Pony strap clamp, NIB
Not pictured - a few books and a bracelet for SWMBO.

Last stop was another moving/estate sale, with a few goodies for $15.

2 pieces of crockery (not pictured)
Another Excelite nut driver
Phillips screwdriver
Brass birdie spigot
Box o drill bits
Craftsman stubby DBE, -V- series, 1/2" x 9/16"
4 reamers
Vintage Weller series 800 jigsaw
Gifford - Woods ice tongs
Craftsman inside dividers

I have no need for the Weller jig saw - just thought it looked cool.

Five planned estate sales today. The first one was cleaning out a contractor's tools. Most of it was the standard Home Depot fare, but there were a few gems. I had to pass on a 1940's Craftsman 1/2hp Long-C barrel style bench grinder. I just have too many grinders not being used right now.

But I was able to find a few things to use.

pics 1&2 - $20
60" J-foot prybar
Wilde #544 cotter key extractor
Drill Master (china) 7pc Forstner Bit Set (bits still sealed in plastic)
Lg. plastic mallet
2- Stream Line Tools finish/pick body hammers
Pexto #4 raising hammer

The second stop was a bust. The "tools" were just a handful of trash lying around the floor of the garage.

Stop #3 was an estate sale for an electrician in the garage of a condo complex. It was mostly household leftovers and accumulated electrical overstock. But at least there were some tools to dig through.

pics 3&4 - $27
10' of SJOOW 12/3 cable
14" retractable tow strap
roll of black duct tape
roll of blue painter's tape
a LED battery operated magnetic/clamp work light.

Roto-Split #RS101A cable splitter
Witte (germany) insulated screwdriver
Wiha #320N (germany) insulated screwdriver
grey plug
1/2 box of #2 phillips bits
4 rolls of black electrical tape
roll of green electrical tape

That stop was on the border of BlueBomber's and Bobcat753's territory, so I decided to try and do a little poaching. :ninja: Unfortunately, by the time I got to the last two stops, there wasn't much left. Still -

Stop #4 yielded :
pic 5 - $1
2 wood splitting cones

and
Stop #5 :
pic 6 - $15
a hospital table that will be needed later for a family member

Not too bad for a cold drizzly day.

Good finds BB and Jake. I was working today, sadly, and tomorrow I'm going to an open house (detached 25-35' garage). Also I think I've quit going to sales for the season, want to focus on taking advantage of the snow blower market.

Ha! Looks like both of us are on the side lines now, Jake, so you can do another dance in your basement and resume hunting the length and breadth of north east Mass!

Headed to Philly today and routed trip to optimize estate sale stops. Managed to hit 3 of them.

8f2028aa0ce36cce2914febb12bb87e5.jpg

Foredom flex shaft. Needs chuck key and switch is broken in on position. I'll fix that and replace hand piece bearings tomorrow. Funny thing is that I had the variable speed foot switch and ended up selling it a few months ago. Cost was $7 and they threw in some school supplies that my daughter picked out.

d037fd5e2d9951c6b20c5f8fc2ee14d3.jpg

Wiss pinking shears
Bandage scissors
1" tap
Vacuum grip pliers
Master lock with combo
Felt
$5 for above. The 1" tap fills out my pipe tap collection.

b5b044c12b5fb52a3b89a768179f9444.jpg

GE variable speed reversing thermometer controlled box fan (that's a mouthful). $3. Runs strong and quiet.

Plus two massive rolls of 30# Kraft paper. Roll is 12" diameter and weighs 72lbs. I'm good with packing paper for a while...

I have been slaving away on a total house renovation for the past 4 months, which has really put a damper on my garage sale visits, but I was able to visit the local recycling yard this morning, and came home with this scale for $20!

It is a Toledo scale. Non-working, but the exterior is great, which is why it caught my eye. Most everything in the sale yard at the recycling center is trashed, but thankfully this beast survived.
image.jpg1_zpsua8dm3y2.jpg

It weighs a couple hundred pounds, and stands about 6' tall. I am either going to gift it to a neighbor, or take the scale head off and turn that into a sweet clock! Who knows, only time will tell. Unfortunately, i have about a dozen or so projects in front of it, so it will have to wait.

Those are cool jawoodworking, there is a used industrial supply guy here in town that I met and his dad has a warehouse full of those in all sizes, he collects scales.

I'm digging the middle set of pliers! Any maker marks?
Those 3 rusty pieces were only a buck tied together. I bought the group for the calipers, and would've paid way more. Puzzled by that set you've referred to myself. There were marks, but I think all I made out was "mech...." Coolest thing about that pair is they expand channellock style. The nipper type set is Germany.

All 3 rusty pieces are in electrolysis so I'll know more in a few days

My little haul for the day. CM line wrenches, pro hard handled screwdrivers, couple of Matco screwdrivers, Mac pick, a snow tire China plier, that'll come in handy here in Fl.

Also picked up a Mac 1/2" impact and a stubby CM air ratchet.

Just haven't made the time, but am likely just going to smooth it down a bit and then move forward. I'm still liking the Grey color I found under that orange paint. That would be a good looking vise to have that color.

Free from a local CL ad. I've been watching for one of these cheap or free. It's going to be the roof structure for a mini storage garage for my 4-wheeler this winter. A necessary structure to make room to park one car in the garage over winter. I'll add some short walls and it will keep the snow off nicely.

You guys are all scoring some great stuff.

It's winding down pretty quickly here.

Diamond double headed wrench ($3), Utica Dikes ($.050) and baby Anvil ($20). I'm not sure if the anvil is a jewelers anvil or a salesman sample??

Down at Buzzards Bay near Cape Cod today with SWMBO to visit our daughter at Mass Maritime. We killed some time in the antique shops on Main Street. Not a great place to find bargains (they had a nice Heritage logo 4" swivel vise, but for $75), however I rifled through the "Rusty Tools for a Dollar" box and found these four brace bits and a Mac 9/16" x 5/8" DBE. The store was having a 25% off sale, so I got them for $3.75.

Nice score. It looks like you already striped it from the picture. Did you take a picture with it's previous color?

I was only trying to expose the lettering to take a decent picture. I should have, but did not, take a picture as it appeared when I brought it home. I was pleased to find some original paint left on it.

The previous color was grease and iron oxide :D
