Picked up 4 wrenches
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1445895005.189022.jpg
Stopped at the 2nd hand store, went home with this box of USA sockets, mostly craftsman, but there were a few Bonney, 2 snap on, 1 Cornwell, a MAC and a couple of other old brands.

Went to a sale this weekend and the place was a disaster. It was a Sunday only sale and it was raining, so the guy couldn't bring everything outside like he wanted to. He was a retired electrician and I could have probably bought enough to finish rewiring my house and garage. I didn't have time to dig thru the mess for what I needed. I asked about vises and he said he would dig out the vise he has and then call me. I told him I'd buy a bunch of electrical stuff if he can dig some stuff out.

I did manage to pick up these four fire extinguishers up for $30.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1445903508.088330.jpg
Now I have 2 proper extinguishers for the garage, one for the kitchen, and 1 for the basement.

I also met a gentlemen who is selling some old tools and vises so it was a good stop.

Not mine but a family member got this last week for less than a buck - guess what it sold for? Over $400! Wicked cool, that jerk.

Wow indeed. Now 1 more thing to look for (and do some research on) when scrounging the garage sales.

Went picking in my scrap guys warehouse today and pulled a couple goodies. The clock is a General Electric, gotta wire a plug on it to see if it works, the Schlitz garbage can but the bottom is totally rusted out so it's more like a Schlitz cylinder, and my favorite...a Vimco lamp for my upcoming new(old) Craftsman band saw refurb!!

A Garage Sale Buddy hit a sale couple weeks back and owner had some additional items he forgot to bring, so he got a future invite to go back.

Since he was buying a heavy anvil, he asked that I come along to help and while there, the owner allowed me to look over his items.

Pic 1--Although owner had an appropriately priced Gerstner oak tool chest, I opted to go instead for a 5 drawer oak tool chest that was missing the flip up oak cover which covers the 5 drawers. The owner made a new oak cover but hadn't applied a finish or put back the original latches found in a couple of the drawers. Think it was made by National of Dayton, OH, but no sticker remains to be absolutely sure. Will make a nice small job this Winter to refinish it.

Pic 2--E. N. Welch of Forestville Conn Oak Regulator Clock Case Only. There is also mention of Sessions on the tag. E. N. Welch may have been sold to Sessions at time this was made. The upper glass appears original, but think the lower glass must be replacement as think it should say REGULATOR.

Pic 3 & 4--A Model 2 Lightning Flask Clamp by Federal Foundry Supply Co of Cleveland OH.

Pic 5--Hand Saw Filing Vise No Mfg Name but marked only as 95 and cast with Made in USA. Has adjustable ball movement.

Pic 6--Hand Saw Filing Vise with a weld and marked only as No. 0.

Pic 7--Didn't buy as not available for sale, but first time I'd run into a Richards Electromatic Super Diemaker Saw Trimmer. This one was a 3 combo machine (i.e. Drill, Circular Saw and Jig Saw) with a 50 inch throat.

Enjoyed the day talking to the owner and friend who took me along.

Mike

Picture No 6 looks very similar to this Woden http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331687504150

CwazyWabbit:

Saw vice/clamp in pic 6 above does indeed look like a Woden.

Always possible that Woden made them for someone in USA to sell, without use of their name or numbering system. Might also explain why no country of mfg was listed on it.

Another item I didn't picture from sale today, was the anvil my buddy bought and it was a 117 lb Hay Budden. However, what caught my eye was an even bigger anvil that was made in Sweden by Soderfors. I asked about price on the Soderfors, but owner not ready/interested in parting with it.

So, this wound up in the back of my car, and $45 was missing out of my wallet... 11 totes.

I have a Magnum r/t awd with the tow package... this made my rear end sag. I've never had it sag before. Guys a contractor getting a house ready for sale. Previous owner was addicted to auctions. There's a shed in the back, 12x22, front to back, wall to wall, ceiling to floor, of these trays filled with tools. I'll be bringing another load home Monday.

I can't beat the last poster - you ****! But here's my meager haul for Sunday, all for $12:

Heller claw hammer
Proto socket
5 wrenches, 2 Proto/Plomb, 1 Wright, 1 Hazet, and 1 marked "Made in England, Superslim"
Boker cutters
Proto 3/8-drive ratchet (by far the costliest in the bunch at $7, but I love Proto...)

Are they? They're wood on the short side, but thick cardboard makes up the rest of them.

Sorted through 3 1/2 totes... found a bunch of Williams Brooklyn items, including a Ratco-Wrench with a 1910 patent. A long handled fine tooth Blackhawk rat, a Husky rat, assorted Williams and Bonney wrenches, a ton of cool old brass hardware, 5 pieces of silverware... and filled a 5 gallon bucket of scrap.

Man, I need to meet your scrap guy. Too bad I unloaded a ton of scrap recently for free, just to get it out of the way. There'll be plenty more where that came from, though.

A "Heads Up" for my friends here on GJ - there's a Stephen Bader Knife Belt Grinder on Columbus C/L - looks to be in pretty good shape. I had one of these about a year ago and sold it to someone here on GJ - maybe others might have interest in this one.

Aside from it being direct drive (can't use step pulleys to control speed) and a bit of a high RPM motor (or at least too fast for my skill level), that sounds like a great deal. I haven't looked at prices recently but those three attachments likely sell for well more than $600.

Hang around, you'll meet him ;)

I feel everyone should know a good scrapper! Those items were basically free, of course I have given him scrap metal at various times but since I don't scrap, I feel it's nothing out my pocket cause I would've just put it on the curb for someone else to pick up. I save all my junk for him, he brings me cool stuff so it's a trade off. Win-win!

Yes good deal. I have a scrapper picking up my old broken oil boiler and hoping I can snag some stuff from him.

Now THIS is cool! I work in the industry and have never seen a flask clamp of this type - and we're a 100+ year old company!

I'll make it a point to take pictures of what this is used for later this week. In the mean time, if you decide to part with this clamp, please consider selling it to me!

Hey, Nine. Do you recall what I did with an old electric clock like that one?

I thought it turned out pretty well. I can just see your's labeled as "Nine's Tool Shop," with an old PLOMB or Snap On logo.

Yes Lump, that came out great! I may do some pin striping in it but may leave this one original, I plugged it in last night and it fired right up! :rocker:

Lump: nice looking clock.

Rick: in case you didnt already see it another member started a thread on your sellers crates in vintage section. Maybe post one crate at a time because you found some cool stuff. Also since it was $5 per crate did you get even a better deal or did your seller have issues with math?

That's an older bader 1? a bit different than the current production. I'd say it is in the good fair range depending on bearing condition.

Estate sale today had a really great messy garage. I was first in the door and planted myself in front of the roller toolbox. Managed to pull out a Snap-on flaring tool set, 1 ½ 3/8dr deep socket sets and a couple of wrenches, SK regular & bent handle flex head ratchets. Also found a nice drill index, Mitotoyo digital caliper, Fairmount ******* & body dolly. Picked up a nice auto-dark welding helmet too.

Nice haul there Rickster.

Went to an estate sale that opened this morning. No sign up sheet, no numbers, no organized line. Cold wind blowing so everybody was in a clump. A couple guys in the clump cut the rest of us when the door opened, ******* people off. They knew what they were doing too. Some guys are cutthroat. I was still about #8 or 9 but should have been higher. This couple by me, the husband was grumbling quite audibly and his wife was trying to keep him quiet. I wish he picked a fight with the cutters. Funny over the years you learn who every sneaky SOB is.

I think I did quite good anyway, most went for the garage and I went for the basement.

$15 + tax for the first pic
$18 + tax for the second

Got some nice Williams ratchets, Armstrong spinner, Blue Point Hacksaw, Williams old and modern 4" adjustables. Some nice wood working stuff, some stanley. Misc. Snap On including 9/32" t-handle. Proto ratcheting wrenches, Lufkin metal ruler.

Here we do "street Numbers"... first guy there parks in front and hands out numbers he created and everyone pretty much lines up by the number. Key is to get everyone a number as they pull up that way they're all invested. Still sometimes...... Actually saw a fight break out one time. Two guys locked in a wrestling match actually careened off the front porch and fell three feet to the driveway. The fall pretty much ended the fight. EMS and the cops arrived shortly afterwards. It was in St Clair Shores couple of years ago. I had a new phone and was scrambling to figure out hot to get my video recording but it was over before I got it to work.

I'm always looking for cool deals. A lot of people around my area just want to unload stuff for next to nothing. They have no idea what they have. Good for us!

So I went to see the guy I met on Sunday who mentioned he had 2 Vises for sale. I was only going to buy this Parker 973 for $30, but the seller was pushing me to buy both the Parker and a 3" Columbian. He was at $45 but I said no. Then he settled on $40 and I grabbed both. The seller collects and sells mainly singer sewing machines but also picks up vises. I need to find a parker no 1 vise wrench now.

Never seen anyone doing the "sold tape" thing but have heard about it multiple times. IMO that's BS. If you ask the seller to start a pile next to their checkout then fine, I would not intrude on that pile but to go around putting tape on things because you want to be that greedy would frost me. Maybe some will disagree but to each his own. If you're buying then pick it up and buy.
