Slow day for me a HS Flea and one estate sale... a couple of drive by TOO's - almost everything came from the Flea

Almost right off I found the Sinker mold, and the guy told me to pick a movie for free, as I was his first Customer of the day. as you can see there wasn't a great selection! Got the mold for $5. then I got an SK machinist box knock off of the K 520; no door panel, needs the red paint striped and has a few dings and kinks to knock out but for $2... The plane ( no name obvious) was a buck, and the Glass insulator was $3. that guy had a heavy, possibly hand forged body hammer, but (it's forged! it's antique! I want stupid $$$...).

No Pics but from the TOO's a canvas bag with SWMBO's fav Baseball team for $3 ("great! put it in the laundry!") and ant a Chinese watercolor (Style not COO) learners kit on a free pile, that she and my oldest daughter will share in their "art studio" they are currently assembling.

Got to an estate sale 15 mins early and they were relaxed about letting early birds in. Something was familiar about the house layout and I realized this was a sale of leftovers of a overpriced sale from the beginning of the year. Figured they would be open to negotiations this time so I grabbed and stacked and ended up with this stack for $25.

Case with 3 cymbals.

So I stacked everything into a pile and lady asks $30. I offer $20. Just then a woman who was looking at cymbals several minutes earlier walked into garage and started arguing with the seller saying it wasn't fair that when she asked about them it was $25 and she is basically giving them away to me. Thanks lady. Seller decided in this situation she won't sell to either of us and other buyer walked away. Seller then called her son over and asked him for advice and in the meantime other buyer came back with her husband. Son asked the husband "are you interested in the cymbals" and he replied "not for $25". Son then gave me the go ahead to buy them in my bundle but at his point I had to go up to $25 total. Oh well. At sales I'm always advocating for buying trying to help others get good deals too. Wasn't too happy about the lady that ruined my deal Though in the end it was only$5 more.

Next sale got 5 milk crates for $1 each

Plus a Thule roof rack with ski rack and keys for $12.

Then ran an errand and saw a small sale on the way back and picked up this American spinner for asking price of $5!

Break on one edge and missing wrench. I'll clean this up and replace cord and try to patch break. Cord and switch need to be replaced.

mattblast,
You definitely got a YOU **** deal on those cymbals. If I saw this at a sale I would have gladly paid $50 and walked away with a deal and satisfaction of shutting up the other buyer. The bag alone covers your $25 and you got at least $100 in cymbals there with the Meteor probably being the cheapest one of the bunch. If you're not a drummer then put those up on CL and it should be an easy sale.

The weather still stinks here but as this is one of my two full days at home for a three week stretch, I got out and stopped at a couple of sales. Got a decent lot of USA tools for $15.

Imperial stripper
Klein stripper
Klein pliers
Williams crescent
Craftsman 3/8 ratchet and 3/8" to 7/8" sockets
Sparta 3/8 set. Not sure if it originally included a universal or extensions, but it's otherwise complete. Came with an SK extension, Snap On extension, and a no name Taiwan universal.

This 4 footed object followed me home after work yesterday. Had to pay a bit at $150 but there is nothing wrong with it besides some surface rust. Year is 1974 but what is the J stamped on the jaw? Also it is a 4" jaw.

Today's hunt was at 5 sales and 1 TOO. Most of the stops were iffy, but I still managed to find a few gems in the dross.

The first stop was a poaching run up near Bobcat's area. A sale by a picker/seller I've seen at sales. His place is in an odd spot, hidden behind a business area. Most of his stuff was from a deceased Cement/Mortar Mason he was selling for someone else, plus a few things of his thrown in. I was there at 7am and was the only one there the entire time. I was expecting the place to be packed with immigrant workers looking for deals, but the place was a cricket ranch [chirp, chirp]. We spent a little time talking about his shop. He's done an amazing job restoring some Pexto sheet metal machines.

Anyway, I came away with three old bench lamps.

Pic 1 - $20
3 unknown shoplights (the bottom one has the look of a Vimco)

Stop 2 and 3 were duds, as was the TOO. Stop 4 was a borderline disappointment, but I salvaged a few things out of a trashed toolbox.

Pics 2&3 - $2
Chapman CM-13 stainless bit ratchet
Gray #3108 (Canada) 1/4" combo wrench
Challenger/Proto (Canada) #6126 13/16" combo wrench (didn't know they made any in Canada :dunno:)

The last stop was a bit of a shock. I had blocked the address out of my memory, but remembered it as I pulled up. It was the location for a nightmare Estate Sale from a few months ago. The original ad was tools piled up for miles, but when I got in to dig, it was almost all Harbor Freight at Top Brand prices. Since it was my last stop, I decided to go in anyway to see if they had sold anything. With most of the piles thinned out, I was able to pick up a few items that had been buried before.

Pic 4 - $5
HF - Central Pneumatic #32868 Air Engraver (NIB)
magnetic parts tray
sm. plastic funnel
2 heavy glass ashtrays
134 toolbox divider spring clips (Kennedy ??)
4 toolbox dividers - 16-1/2" long (fits my 18"deep Kennedy and Craftsman/Waterloo box drawers)
Versa-Claw tool (Taiwan) (it was an oddity I couldn't leave behind)

Went to a farm auction in Northern Iowa and picked up a few things:

1. Box of miscellaneous including a torpedo level, hole-cutting drill bit set, GB wire stripper and 4 small quick clamps - $7

2. Armstrong Brothers No.70 pipe vise - $6

3. A flat of various steel tools including several tire irons, two John Deere tractor wrenches, and a somewhat bent hand crank that I will straighten on the press - $11

4. A group including two machetes. The one in the sheath is a Collins MK 2 from the USN dated 1943. I had to bid aggressively to get it - $25

So I had time before work yesterday to hit a few sales and got nothing except a $5 toro leaf blower which runs rough and a $3 garden sprayer. Sorry no pics on those.

Found this on the way to pick up my son on the side of the road. Ok, not really on the side of the road. I took a different route to pick up my son where there was an advertised sale which had nothing. But I passed a guy with a table set up on the side of the road at a gas station. I wasn't going to go back because I was cutting it close on time, but I'm glad I did. There was a Parker 823-1/2 sitting on the table staring at me. Smooth faced jaws look unused, or they were ground smooth. Either way, they look nice. Has the wrench too. $40 for the heaviest 3-1/2" vise I've ever seen weigh in at a little over 59 pounds.

Enjoy seeing all the pics from this weeks GS finds!!!

Only had 2 garage sales on the list.

Pic 1-2 Stopped at first one and they had a beat up and paint flaking oil/fluids catcher and liked the look.

Pic 3 A kerosene heater/salamander

Pic 4 Was one I bought and didn't realize it said Buffalo and Made in Taiwan clearly on the Box. Later, pulled items out of box and all pieces were marked Made in USA and made by General.

Pic 5-7 Went to 2nd yard sale and as walking in, saw a nice looking miter saw with stand being bought and was kicking myself a bit for staying so long at first sale. However, another yard sale guy I've bought from in past came up and said he bought something to sell to me and took me over to the miter saw and stand. We worked out a price that we both could live with and I thought it was a Millers Falls version. It was only later as cleaning it up, that found the miter saw said on engraving that "Made expressly for Goodell-Pratt Co Toolsmiths" and maker of saw was Disston. As cleaning up the miter stand, found it was made also and marked Goodell Mfg Co Greenfield Mass USA Pat'd Feb 9, 1904. One thing in cleaning it up was that they use what I term a sliding choke to lock the miter stand in place, which is definitely different than Stanley or Millers Falls versions that I've previously worked on.

Will continue in another post a few more items found at 2nd yard sale.

Mike

Pic 3 Ridgid No. 2 Heavy Duty Pipe cutter for 1/8" to 2"

Pic 4 It looks like it makes musket balls, but no mfg markings found

Pic 5-7 Bridgeport Hardware MFG Corp USA Tomahawk nail puller hatchet tool. On handle it has above name of company and on other side of handle stamped in it says Iroquois

Does look very similar to a Millers Falls. I have a Sears branded Millers Falls... it doesn't have stamped feet.

So I have this very nice Parker 824 I just restored (4" jaws 85 lbs) and which I have listed on CL for $310. Guy reaches out and offers to barter for this Wilton Square drive 2" x 72" sander straight up.

I'm inclined to do it. Any idea on how good these old Wiltons are?

That Parker looks great but 4" vises are almost a dime a dozen, that Wilton belt sander looks like a deal to me.

Really though, consider what you invested in the vise and what the Wilton is worth in current condition. Which is more?

Made a quick trip to Branson, Missouri a couple of days ago. On the way back to Jonesboro my wife insisted on stopping at every flea market on Highway 412. She did not buy much but I scored 5 road signs.

Road Signs 01 by Formerly JimboT, on Flickr

This is one of my favorites. A sign promoting no littering. Somewhere in it's life a couple of inches got sliced off the left side which gives it a little charm I think. My plan is to locate it close to the large trash can in my shop.

Road Signs 02 by Formerly JimboT, on Flickr

This is another favorite. A well rusted and bullit dinged stop sign that goes way back I think. In my recollection stop signs have always been red. Does anyone know when white and black signs were retired?

If the motor runs ok, and the belt tracks true on the rollers, I'd be inclined to go for it if you plan on keeping the sander. If you're going to flip it, then I'm on the fence. I suppose it would depend on how much work the sander would need to get it sellable.

Like Nine said, a 4" Parker would be easier for you to find than that sander.

Mike, I have been using that same miter box for well over 30 years. Tuned right it's great. the saw had just been sharpened and I've cut countless oak flooring boards and its still sharp!

Mine is also screwed to a piece of wood, only I have s cleat on it and "mount" it to a B&D Workmate.

Nice scores guys, not a bad day today for me. Stopped at a couple of sales, only one had tools. Picked up the following: 1/2 Craftsman RHFT ratchet, full set of DBE craftsman wrenches, Ace Tap and Die set supposedly never used, reamer, pick, and a pair of NIB Bushnell binoculars 4x30 for my son not shown. Total was 35 bucks.

Here's the pics from my earlier post.
Anyone know anything on the Grand c-clamps? What info I've come across refers to them as woodworking clamp.

Had the day off yesterday so I was able to hit the sales opening day. Everything from estate sales.

Bunch of Snap- on drivers, Channellock mini cutters, partial nut driver set $7

Snap-on pliers, Williams and Porter-Ferguson body hammers $13

Williams 1/2 drive torque wrench. Actually came with the instructions in a tube addressed to I am assuming the orginal owner. The instructions also show torque values for numerous parts of 1938-1941 heavy trucks. Paid quite a bit at $35 but had some history with it given the instructions were included

B&D Workmate 79-001 type 5 ? Found folded up in the corner of a condo basement. I surprised myself even going to a condo since from my experience they are usually terrible for tools. Pretty much mint what with the sticker still on the top. Fair price of $35

Nice Lista box cbacres

It's a little on the rough side, it must of set outside by the rust inside.
Nothing that can be fix with some sandblast and paint.
All the bearings are fine, added some oil and smooth as can be.

Outlawmws:

This will be my first Goodell Pratt, but it is so similar to my Millers Falls one, that I think I'll enjoy using it.

Only thing that threw me was that "choke" for the lock down feature.

WNYflyer, that's a nice example of a Williams Measurrench. That looks familiar, I know I saw it in the pictures for one of the sales. I was up in the Falls and Wheatfield yesterday. Some decent deals. Made a stop in Amherst too. It was a pretty good sale weekend.

If you need a belt grinder, that is fair trade, primarily because I don't think the vise is worth $310. That machine has been used hard, and while they are nice machines, one can build a better grinder by the time you rebuild one of those. Especially with only a 1hp motor and no contact wheel.
