Here's the pics from my earlier post.
Anyone know anything on the Grand c-clamps? What info I've come across refers to them as woodworking clamp.

This will be my first Goodell Pratt, but it is so similar to my Millers Falls one, that I think I'll enjoy using it.

Only thing that threw me was that "choke" for the lock down feature.

Mike
If you haven't found it already, there's a fabulous Millers Falls resource online on OldToolHeaven.com. Here's the Goodell-Pratt page: http://oldtoolheaven.com/related/goodell-pratt.htm

Lots of driving today. Very few tools.

SK C18 9/16" combo wrench - $1
Williams -X-110- 1"dr 8" extension - $5

I don't need a 1"dr tool, but hey - how often do you see them at a yard sale for five bucks ?

Clean workmate, love them things!

WNYflyer, I like that Tourqe wrench. I have one of the work mates, best one I've had.

Thanks guys, the work mate should come in handy. Got some good ideas from the work mate thread floating around somewhere.

cbacres, I was trying to figure out why everyone was talking about a Lista cabinet but then I finally realized I needed to scroll horizontally to get all the pictures. Only took me a couple of looks to figure it out . Excellent score on a great quality cabinet.

WNYflyer, that's a nice example of a Williams Measurrench. That looks familiar, I know I saw it in the pictures for one of the sales. I was up in the Falls and Wheatfield yesterday. Some decent deals. Made a stop in Amherst too. It was a pretty good sale weekend.

3Bay, Yeah the Williams Torque wrench was the one pictured. It came from the sale just down from NCCC. Detached garage full of well used tools but surprisingly mostly China stuff and some Craftsman mixed in. Couldn't find the torque wrench but end up in the basement where I think it was the only tool down there. I also hit the sales in the Falls/Wheatfield and Amherst/Williamsville. As usual you did well yourself this weekend especially the cool Proto ratchet

Well I guess a toilet is also considered a tool of sorts. But I wish that compressor was not in the way so we could see the box better.

Old Hamilton flat file cabinet. Weighs at what I would guess around 200 pounds. I'd like to get the original paint uncovered. Someone painted over it and it's peeling off in spots revealing an dark olive drab color. Either that or I strip it and repaint it. I paid $40 bucks for this and I was stoked!

If that Old Hamilton flat file cabinet is metal, I'd try getting that loose paint off with a power washer. Trick would be to use enough power to get the coated paint off and still leave original paint.

Just a thought!!!

I'll say it, Kraftwerk YOU ****!! Great score on that cabinet!
Try soaking a towel in simple green and covering the file cabinet with it. Wrap it in Saran Wrap overnight and the newer paint should scrub off leaving the original intact.

I hit an Estate Sale today - a one day Sunday Sale.

We got there 30 minutes after it had opened and they had let only 2 guys into the basement. They bought up $225 worth of stuff - a bunch of it at $1.00 each pricing and some more expensive stuff.

Once they were done they let 4 people in - we were #3 and #4 in that group. I turned around and they had let in another 10 or so people.

The basement was chock full of stuff - ton's of hardware and things.

I picked up the following stuff:

A set of SAE taps in a lucite holder
An early Vice Grip - no release lever
A pair of Snap On linemans pliers (HD-59)
A generic ratcheting brace (not a mark on it)
A 25' Craftsman tape measure with a side button release
A tube of Simichrome polish

Not pictured a set of X-Acto Hobby knives in a wood box.
We paid $10.00 for everything.

In the house I bought a pair of Bushnell 7 x 50 Sportview binoculars (not pictured) for $15.00. The guy was a professional photographer so I guessed he picked binoc's with good optics and I was right!

Cheers

Jim

Dropped in on a large farm auction. Two rings running and only about 85 bidders. :rocker: That usually means low prices and today was no exception . I spent a total of $33.00 bucks. Not high quality but a couple really good deals. I think the auctioneers were getting tired and started offering choice by area . I played the waiting game and won the bid for the area for a whooping $2.00 bucks... That's when I picked up an 85 lb 6" post vise .

I grabbed up a bunch of other junk as well
ford and proto wrench's
proto cable splicer- bell system
True temper Flint edge Kelly Works 5" axe
2 bread tray's from an old rainbow bread factory - full of "farm stuff" I wanted the trays
Wizard 3/8 ratchet
3-1/2" Dunlap vise- It cost twice as much as the Post vise :eyecrazy:$4.00
Metro breast drill
Acetylene bottle-small one
several rifle bags
Lots of other odds and ends

Thanks for the advice guys. It's not completely metal, there is some wood on the drawers so I'll probably try the simple green method so I don't soak the wood. I was also considering a heat gun on a lower setting to see if it would soften the newer paint enough to scrape it off without damaging the original.

THIS ^^^ on both topics!

I'l bet that was military and that follows the OD under the paint.

I'd LOVE to find 3-6 of those! I'd be able to REALLY consolidate tool boxes!

Thats why I'm asking you guys here. I know nothing about these Sanders except that parts are RIDICULOUSLY expensive.
$310 would be a good deal... since that's what you're selling the vise for, I assume you have a lot less in it... makes it an even better deal.

Okay, a bit longer suspense than I meant to hold. However, I had to install the pictured toilet before I could get to my toys. Rather, I had to try to install it...seems there's something called "rough in distance" that I neglected to check. Oh poo.

Anywho, I was once again running my daughter back down to school, and targeted an estate sale for the return trip. It was the closing hours on the third day of a three day sale. The ad promised lots and lots of tools, full basement, shed etc. Even on the third day, it did not disappoint.

First up, 170 lbs of calcium chloride driveway melt for the upcoming winter - should last this one and next. $5

Next, a 2' x 4' garden wagon with three flat tires. A little crusty and bent from being overloaded, but the price was right. $5

A pair of Sears 3-ton jack stands. $4

A Nye Champion vise and pipe bender tripod. $6

Is that a plomb wire stripper with the ratchet? Nice score BTW. I love farm auctions usually decent old tools at good prices.

It's a cable crimper/splicer. It is driven by the proto ratchet. There were 3 of them there. 2 proto one plomb. One of my main competitors won the first bid and took the first 2.

This was not an Earth-shattering deal, but an unusual find nonetheless.

From an estate sale in Milwaukie, Oregon, about a mile from the original manufacturing plant for P&C tools comes this near complete set of P&C combination wrenches ranging from 3/8" to 1 5/16" - with a few duplicates. I am missing a few of the smaller wrenches (Not sure where the set starts or ends) like 1/4", 5/16", 7/16", and 1/2". I am also curious if this set had any 32nd fractionals as I'd like to complete it!

I waited until the last day for the 1/2 price sale - which may have been a mistake since I have no way of knowing if any wrenches in the set were previously sold (they were priced individually). Cost: $60.

Brian

Edit: I fixed the orientation of the phots :)

I think it's almost criminal when they break up a set by pricing stuff individually. I've also been to sales where I found wrenches from a set scattered in various places in the guy's shop. Even when I didn't want to buy them, I'd usually grab them up and put them together for someone else to find.

I'm guilty of this as well. Just this weekend I found the fence to a tablesaw on one side of the shop, and made sure it went back on the saw so that they wouldn't get split up. I'm always picking up pieces I don't want to place them with like items for others to find. It's an obsession, and it takes away from my digging time.

well good, I do this too. I got some dirty looks once, until I explained to the guy what I was doing. Then he just thought I was nuts.

Truth be told, I took a long look and located two more P&C wrenches to add to my haul before leaving.
