Picked up this lil old SK hex socket set. I'm always a sucker for these old hex sets. Probably paid too much for it , 10 bucks but the cool factor makes up for it . It's missing the 3/4 socket and the 5/8 is cracked. Don't know for sure yet but it might be missing the socket drive piece as well. Haven't done any checking on it yet.

Updated: checked with AA, among the first made by SK from 1932-34. and the drive bit doubled as a screw driver bit.

I'm heading out to a local flea market in a few minutes and will post when I get back. Good finds so far guys.

Didn't get nothing to great, just a small set of Starrett morphodite calipers, a bunch of vintage files and a small box of old drill bits, taps and end mills.

$31 at two flea markets and one yard sale. All of the hand tools are USA. Notables include the Plumb pebble finish wrench, 1/2" drive Armstrong ratchet, 3/8" drive Fleet ratchet, Cman speeder, SK socket drivers, Allen key case, SK socket case and a bunch of various sockets. Bottle jack is Japanese. Also got the goose neck trailer hitch.

CB that is indeed a sharpening fixture remove a rest on your grinders and put that in its place the main issue is most grinders are WAY too fast and you can burn up the blade if not very careful.

RP Nice find, and great score! Is it a 4" jaw?

Some good scores out there! I picked up a Lista 5 drawer cabinet on casters last night for $65 and some other stuff a week ago, will try to get pics soon. Been battling a deluge of rain today it started coming into the house garage! I went and got sandbags but the water was dropping by the time I got back. Should be a sunny day tomorrow to get stuff dried out.

Lunchtime score!
Not sure if this qualifies for this thread, but I visited a little resale/consignment shop at lunch. Ended up with this 3/8" Craftsman ratchet repair kit. Looks to have everything in the box. $5
Anyone have a clue as to it's vintage? Simpsons-Sears LTD?

I went to a garage sale several weeks ago and saw a Wilton 6" opening bench vise rusted as heck but the guy wanted $250 for it. Same for another garage sale where this guy had a newly firehouse red painted 3-1/2" Wilton for $150 and both didn't budge on the price. I bought a 3-1/2 Wilton off Ebay for $40. The thing in Hawaii for garage sales, if you're a seller people want stuff for free. If you're a buyer, they want an arm and a leg for ****.

Ok, let's dissect this.

Not sure if this qualifies for this thread, but I visited a little resale/consignment shop at lunch. ........

Yes it does.

Ended up with this 3/8" Craftsman ratchet repair kit. Looks to have everything in the box. .........

No, it's missing the Hourglass selector, but otherwise complete and in excellent condition.

YOU **** !!!!!!!!!

Anyone have a clue as to it's vintage?

Early to mid-60's. Maybe a little later. The Butterfly selector was only available from 1960-aprox.1963. Repair kits would include if for several years after. Unsure of when it stopped.

Simpsons-Sears LTD?

Simpsons-Sears LTD was the Canadian arm of Sears at that time.

Don't think it came with the hourglass selector. The note in the contents portion of the instructions says that the butterfly selector is interchangeable with the hourglass type.

YOU **** !!!!!!!!!
This is my first 'you ****', so... thanks! :)

I don't currently have a need for this, but couldn't leave it behind. Any clue as to its value?

Value depends on how desperate the buyer is to get their ratchet working again.
They can go for anywhere between $10 and "the sky's the limit".

The most needed item in the kit is usually the clips. They tend to rust and/or break when trying to remove. AFAIK, there is no retail source for the clips, and more modern ones don't always fit on the Butterfly selectors. The size is just a tad different.

Hold on to it for dear life. You may need it (or parts) someday.

Nice scores gents, sorry it took me so long to get back to this and reply, both vises are rusted shut and the drill press needed an on/off switch, but thanks to all of you on this forum and thread, it lead me to know that these were a deal that i had to bring home for the price.

Hit one sale today.

Side handle for a Millers Falls eggbeater

I offered to buy all of those that he could find.

The item that I went for, a Fray corner bit brace, is shown below, along with a Pexto draw knife.

And I certainly couldn't turn down a boxed set of Irwins. A little cleaning on both the bits and the box, they'll be ready for a new home.

I never pass up Starrett Combo sets, especially when they are in the original box.

Several smalls for the shop - dolly block, two pieces of marine hardware, Sheffield screwdriver that will be used in a Stanley 45 set, small ball peen hammer head (I collect these), and a boxed set of chuck keys.

Finally, a couple of small Starrett machinist scales for use in my shop.

Nice finds there guys.

I went to one sale today and was about the 30th person in line. :( I figured my chances of getting what I went for were shot, but not so.

The tools weren't great but the big find for me is the S-K 1/2" drive Female ratchet # 40170 . I nearly dove in front of someone (antique tool dealer) to get it. :) Been wondering when I'd find one of these.

Also, the Ford oil can was tucked in nicely on a table full of household junk and nobody spotted it.

Pic 1: S-K RATCHET, Snap On OCTO GRIP screwdriver

Pic 2: S-K RATCHET

Pic 3: Ford Oil Can, Stanley boxwood ruler, old hammer -name not yet identified, Buhl adjustable wrench

Pic 4: Gouges, looks like Adler and Buck Brothers

Pic 5 &6: Great Neck wood plane in the box. Original Price at hardware store $3.99. I paid 3 due to inflation.:lol:

Rich, they are not the most desirable but still cool. Made from 1946 to 1960 I think, according to Collecting SO. I've picked them up here and there over the years in flat tip, Phillips and clutch head, and just recently traded off nice set in fact.

Hard handles are the best users though IMO.

Small estate sale today.
Another block grinder, 1/2 hp 397.19590, dated 1970' ,smooth as can be. Plugged in to run, unplugged, wrote sold on the ticket, went to find the sales guy and he was heading towards it with a cust and they had puzzled look on their face as it was still spinning down. The other guy was saying he was thinking of buying.......

Took some cans and some scrap steel to the recycling place.
Got $16 for the metal, they wanted $19 for the box. I paid $3 out of pocket!:rocker:
SK Professional top box. Good condition, nice and straight. All the drawers slide well... nice box. Wonder why someone would scrap it. Paid by the weight, it was ~50 lbs.
