From an estate sale. The Fluke meters look like they've never been used. (film over the LCD's hasn't even been peeled off). Silver solder was $2/roll and the MAPP gas was $3. (not sure but it might be the real MAPP gas).

The train track anvil is actually bigger then it looks.

I went to the ONLY sale in the area this morning. A last minute listing that had been picked over a few weeks ago (by BlueBomber among others). I couldn't get to it the first time. I was the first one to show up this morning, but as I was turning my truck off I noticed a familiar truck pulling up. Yup, it was BB. After giving him a friendly greeting, I hear a story about how he's supposed to be giving his son another "driving lesson". He was alone and I still haven't seen his son.
Does he really exist ????

The place was still packed, but it was mostly electrical and plumbing parts. The tools were cleaned out during the first sale. Some things I passed on were : A large stack of rusted staging (behind the shed), a 50's Cman table saw, and a PowerKraft floor model DP. The saw and DP were in good shape, but not really my thing right now.

You really had to get down and dig through the piles to find anything interesting. It was fun. There were only 4 or 5 of us that showed up, so we each had plenty of room to explore a garage and two basements.

Here's what I walked out with for only $10

a "well used" lift strap

No big scores, but it was a good morning this late in the season.

No sailing for me this weekend, Merc and I are having a sale over here this weekend, been setting up all day. Wish us luck, we'll need it!

You should do good this weekend. I dont think a week before will hurt. Damn I know a few people that wish there were sales to go on Xmas, come to think of it I am one of those people

We both killed it!! A fellow garage sailer who's also a flea marketeer called last night after seeing my ad and wanted to come by early. I told him come by an hour early for first dibs. He shows up at 6am, starts making piles before Merc even shows up. It's still dark outside, freezing freaking cold and I've not had 8hrs sleep in two days... We are shooting the **** while he makes his pile and he asks if I had any anvils for sale. I replied that I had one but it's not for sale, to which he replied that he had 5 in his van. I'm looking them over knowing Merc has been looking for one and my phone rings, It's Merc and he's running late but on his way. I mention the anvils and he kicks it in high gear. After Merc gets here another customer shows up, it's like 45 mins til sale supposed to start, we get Merc unloaded and work out deals with the customers there and people are piling in left and right.
I never got to look at the clock again until after 8am, customer after customer and the cash is rolling in. We stayed busy until about 11am and it started slacking off some, I was worried it was winding down when two guys show up. They start piling up things like crazy, one of them owned an antique store and now just buys/sells, the other guy is his helper. They keep piling things up and we are dealing with them and other customers back and forth. When it was all said and done, Merc had sold everything but a big tool box and I sold 90% of my stuff(I had a lot of stuff). Needless to say, there will not be a two day sale, the guys that bought the bulk at the end are coming by tomorrow to get what they couldn't fit in the truck today and bringing more cash to deal on what I have left.

This was my best sale EVER! I swapped Merc a couple items so he went home with a few of my things and I got a 3ph motor from him for an upcoming project.

We even changed a blown out tire for a customer with a disc back injury, Nascar style in like two minutes flat.

Awesome day, had a blast!! Sorry no pics, by the time the sun came up we had sold about 40% and was so busy we didn't get a break until right before the reseller came at lunch and wiped us out. My *** is dragging but well worth it. I want to thank Merc for twisting my arm into having the sale today, without him I would have procrastinated well into next year.

I didn't realize that Ted Kennedy's incident at Chappaquiddick occurred at the same time the moon landings were occurring. I was 3 at the time so things are a bit fuzzy in my memory.

The passenger in the vehicle was from Berkeley Heights NJ - the next town over from where I grew up (and also actually where I live now too).

You found some great stuff - I got skunked today.

Yep, up here in the nanny state of Massachusetts, it's mandatory. I may grumble about the expense, but can't argue with the results. They teach the kids to put the cell phone in the back seat so that 1) there's no question about whether they were on the phone and 2) no temptation to sneak a peek on the road.

He's pretty good, except for the occasional near-death experiences that led me to extend his driver training time through today. Pretty soon, I'll have to think up a new line of excuses to coincidentally meet Jake and Bobcat at sales.

Best. Sale. Ever. (and yes, I hate when people type like that)

I brought two truck loads, full to the brim over to Nine's. What I left with, was:

The tables / sawhorses that I brought
A small box of tools that I changed my mind on...went shopping in my own pile
The HF 44" box that I'm sure I can sell in the next week
A Craftsman block grinder, Craftsman tool box, Craftsman ratchets, Craftsman torque wrench, and a couple other smalls that I traded Nine for
A 100# Vulcan Arm & Hammer anvil (been looking for something 100+ lb for quite a while)
Most important, money in my pocket.

So, I literally sold everything that I wanted to sell. That's never happened before. And it was mostly due to a "$40 and you take everything between me and my truck deal" near the end of the day, but hell I might have taken $5 for it at that point.

The two guys at the end of the day were all stars, and Nine worked / is working some other trades with him. I consider them our Christmas miracle. I'd call them angels but that thought was killed after one guy spent ten minutes at the very end swearing up and down what a ******* the other one was.

Merc just posted his score, he got a 100# Vulcan basically delivered to him this morning from a junkyard Santa.

There was one bigger anvil in the truck but it was physically in worse condition and we could not see a makers brand on it, though it did have the mouse hole front to back in the trunk. The guy had another Vulcan, another slightly smaller unknown but old anvil and a common tiny gray HF china anvil.

I almost want to call the guy and make an offer on the largest of them but I like having some extra cash too so I'm holding back. Maybe next week if work goes good this week(I'm supposed to have a couple seat repairs early in the week).

Jake, I when I read Benny Hill, I used to stay up late watching that every week, exactly what it looked like to my neighbors I'm sure. I can't tell you how many customers we had today, it was practically non stop all day long.

BB, you gotta quit blaming the son, it pretty obvious it's your vehicles fault.

Maybe, I offer old keys first to the head Carpenter for our school district, as he always goes above and beyond for my wife's classroom. She teachers Elementary Life Skills (that's the most disabled and medically fragile students).

He is doing a lot of custom stuff for her during Christmas break, so I should see him soon. It's not uncommon to have special stuff made for a specific student in her room.

Well I haven't been to a garage sale in weeks, woke up this morning at 6 AM and said "what the hell this is probably the last decent sales of the year" and rushed to make the first sale that started at 7. Had to let the truck warm up for 5 minutes to clear the frost of the windows it was 34 degrees brrr!

First stop not much for tools but picked up a Tower made in Germany (pre WWII?) drafting kit and some Dewalt bits for $3 total.

Second good stop was a young lady who had bought a house she was remodeling that the shed was full of ham radio stuff and some tools. I picked up an old hand carry tool box and a 1970 Coca Cola crate I put al my other finds in.
In the tool box I stashed 20 military tent stakes, 2 Blackhawk chisels, Bonney refrigeration ratchet, Channelock 426 pliers, Cornwell 1/4M to 3/8F adapter, like new Douglas USA saw blade, made in Germany needle nose, Stanley Sweetheart protractor, new Red Devil USA blades, Utica pliers and Craftsman Crown coping saw blades, chainsaw file in pouch and **** hinge router templates.
In the Coke box I had large Channelocks, Fairmount hammer, fireman's fire plug wench, Mossberg "L" wrench, Klein linesman's wrench, Rigid pipe wrench, unusual "butterfly hinges" and an unmarked axe head. Anybody know what the hinges are for?
I got all this for $30.
As I was leaving I bought 2 Coke plastic crates for $2 each.

I decided to hit up one of the local flea markets.
Found a decent real "STOP" sign for $5 and a little go-kart trophy for $3.
Also picked up a 4" and 6" Stearns C-clamp for $8 total

A good day and I don't have the "itch" anymore LOL.

I can't believe you haven't heard of Mary Jo. The story is Teddy knocked her up and then drove off a bridge and let her sit 8 hours under water before he reported it to the police. That scandel cost him the opportunity to run for president in 1980.

That, sir, is a fixed value torque wrench, used for torquing hydraulic lines on military aircraft. Because it has an FSN and not a NSN it was used in the 1960's. It is only rated for 28.5 in/lbs of torque, but could be set to something less than that, thus the Allen head screw on the bottom. Very likely was used on aircraft during the Vietnam war.

That misspelling is worth a lot just like that 2 cent stamp with the upside down plane.

I scored these this week along with several fire nozzles and other brass tools.

Oh yea and way to many vintage pipe wrenches.

OK, I had NO yard sales, but did manage this off of CL, and worked picking it up on the way to visit the kids Grandmother. (My MIL)

30" wide 18" tall and 9" deep, so not small!

It had some tools and what-not in about 1/2 the drawers. If you look the drawers are well made with tongue and Rabbit joints front and rear, and the case top, sides and bottom are joined with finger joints.

The only real negatives are the back (thin ply) is coming apart and needs some TLC, and the lower sides were power planed off thinner to fit in wherever it lived before.

I initially thought this was a one off hand made chest, but I'm now not so sure about that. Lots of intricate details, on this thing! (The background story was this came out of an old building, and was to be scrapped so the guy saved it)
