Here's a few of things I picked up in the recent past. The DOE ignition set is Walden, with Proto pliers and marked "Bradley Tool Equipment Company". The other two pictures are from a recent trip to a local flea market. The DBE's are Westline, a war time Super Quality and a cute little Billings. There are few SKs to fill in sets I am working on, and a Cornwell 9/16 and Kobalt 1/2 because they looked really lonely at the FM. I have heard this Kobalt is Williams made, but it sure looks Cornwell to me. The DOEs are Blue Point, IGA and a couple Craftsman tappet wrenches. The Saltus look like they really got "salted". The ignition set was part of larger bundle, so I really don't know how much it was, but everything else was $18.

Waltrip: VERY NICE FIND. paint can be changed if needed, but they look in great shape from my chair. and a nice size too. i bet you can put maybe a ton (2000 pounds) of stuff in each of them. WELL DONE!!

ALL: my old Craftsman belt sander wouldn't do the job very well when i needed to take apart my Pergola this last week so i pulled out my $5 Craftsman rotary sander and made a F'n mess, but GOT R DONE. sander really worked pretty well but on/off switch needs cleaning now. i really need to buy a Festool that has an attachment to put a shop vac onto it and keep the sawdust to a minimum, but they don't come up used often and i can't remember the last time i bought a NEW TOOL. Pergola before and after with a few minor changes to the base that i made too long in the first go around.

cheers all and have a great weekend.

SWMBO's out of town this weekend, so there's no one to give me dirty looks when I took off for an estate sale at 7 AM on a Saturday. The ad for a General Contractor Estate Sale was too tempting and brought me back onto the field from "retirement".

The address was just the street and town, so I think it kept a lot of folks away--there was just one other guy and I there a half hour before the opening. The SIL running the sale let us in and we had the place to ourselves. Turns out my bargain hunting companion was a former worker at a Snap-on production plant in Natick, MA for 30 years! He had some good stories to tell about the plant, the various brands they manufactured, and the deep employee discount he got on his garage full of Snappy tools...

Anyhoo, things were priced to sell and after circling the full basement and larger backyard workshop a few times, here's what I came away with for $120. There's too much to make my usual detailed list, so I'll just hit the highlights.

Handtool brands galore! The SIL said the owner would buy a tool whenever he needed one. Or forgot one at a job site. Or just because.

Here's the Snap-on pile...

5245455abe5b595447c14a91215123a0.jpg

And the Mac and MatCo. The red socket holder is cool--it has a magnetic rail running down the middle to hold the sockets in place. The other two socket stick are good quality Craftsman.

Were there Craftsman sockets, you ask? Oh yes. Wright, too. And Cornwell, Thorsen, S-K, Indestro Super, P&C, Proto Los Angeles, Easco and a pile of foreign made junk. Also, two Craftsman 3/8"-drive ratchets, one a RHFT. The 1/2"-drive breaker bar is a Duralast

This picture shows three partial rolls of duct tape (including one Gorilla Glue brand), two small gear pullers (one a Kennedy brand!), medical forceps, a dead blow hammer, and a cool drill bit index.

Some DBEs, including Craftsman ratchets, a Blue Point and two Lone Star branded wrenches made in......India.

A nice selection of large Bonney shield combos, along with a few orphans.

Pliers, cutters and grippers of all kinds, including Craftsman, Channellock, and Crescent. Also, a complete set of Craftsman Clench Wrenches and some adjustables, including NAPA and S-K Tools.

A small pile of flat-blade, Phillips and Torx drivers.

Seven different Vice Grips, all from the Dewitt, NE era.

Here's much of the previous, bookended by two Craftsman behind-the-seat plastic tool boxes.

20 kg of snow melt for the upcoming Boston winter, two 20-foot cargo chains, 120 feet of 3/8" steel cable in three loops and a selection of hooks and pulleys.

20376dcfb5682364a46979d05c123467.jpg

Two welder masks for visiting Boy Scouts (when I finally get around to hosting a Welding merit badge day). How about that funny looking ax? No maker marks on it that I can find. Anyone have any ideas?

65879cf3fa555159fc81535e65b6d4f4.jpg

Three Jorgensen wood clamps, plus a nearly identical Hargrave, a hlaf can of Liquid Wrench and a three-foot crowbar.

5267bbfab31576e2b7ca34031ed4ead7.jpg

Two partial cans of Coleman stove fuel, to go with the stove I bought a few months ago, two vintage C-clamps, and a 20" Stanley tape measure.

18fb0f5d02473b9e4e750ca254389356.jpg

Four Milwaukee hole bits (2" - 2-1/4" sizes), four Forstner bits, and two chuck keys.

Three boxes of assorted bolts and nuts, plus a big *** chunk of threaded rod.

6b79fecac7cbd600b25ef116c741be25.jpg

A "Ding Dong" hack saw (gotta love the Brits) and an old Bridgeport Boy Scout camp ax, missing the wooden handle.

83d8f95508a4da944cafb3d14602a739.jpg

A 100-foot 14 AWG extension cord, a super-sized Master padlock, and a key hider.

816b2492266b417d4069ccf114f24ee8.jpg

Much of this I'll keep, for vehicle tool boxes and my other collections. The truck brands will go on Ebay to cover the day's expenses.

Nice haul BB !
Glad to see you hit a good one.

Went to three yard sales near me this morning. The first only had a handful of tool-like objects. The second sale lied. And the third sale had a few pieces that the seller obviously didn't want to sell. Every time he was asked a price, he'd tell you to give him a price, then he'd say he couldn't sell for that but wouldn't counteroffer. When pressed for a number he'd throw out a high price and when you refused he'd tell you that he wanted to keep it. Then he'd get upset that people were walking away and not buying anything. Another wasted morning. I should have gone to BlueBomber's sale. :lol_hitti

I hit some FM's and Garage Sales today with only I notable find.

I pair of Made in Germany WILL Slip Joint Ignition Pliers (I'm guessing that they are Ignition pliers).

They were tossed in FREE with a Sears 16" Oscillating Fan that I bought for $5.00. The fan needs a cleaning/oiling to get it back in service.

Cheers

Jim

Hit the swap and an estate sale today, followed up by one garage sale, and got the following:

At the swap I got a wood box $6, Auger box, Atlas motor mount, Stilleto socket chisel $5, New in box Pony clamp $3. At the garage sale an unused Proto Dead Blow $10. The estate sale was on its 4th day but was on my way and the pictures showed a Snap On box, so I figured what the heck. Found the lower compartment the Snappy box (long gone) that I needed for a box, a pair of USA scissors and a Fluke 75 with a dead battery $4. Got home, threw a bat in the Fluke, works perfectly:rocker:

I had to work today but there was a machine shop auction going on and I was able to get in on the tail end of it for today. It's a two day auction so I may drop back in tomorrow. Anyway I dropped $301.00 in the last 30 minutes of the sale... Good thing I wasn't there any earlier $$$$.:eyecrazy: I was able to pick up two shelf units both for one dollar. In the cabinet was a Mechanics vest pocket reference book dated 1945 Written by the Supervisor of the Ford Motor Company Apprentice School and a Professor of Physics at Wayne university. Tons of cool factor there I thought.
Well the high dollar item was $300.00 bucks!!! :scared: 1 HP Baldor buffer with a shop made stand and about 20 pounds of compound. I looked on Amazon before bidding and they sale for 975.00 plus 30 shipping ... no stand, no compound. I have been looking for one for about 2 years now. My 1/2 HP Baldor is nice but it's a 1/2 horse...
While loading out a guy I see a lot at sales came up to me and asked me if I wanted an old well hand pump. He had bought a lot of two but only wanted one of them . The other one was missing parts. I asked how much he said free! He said he bought the lot for only 6 bucks... Man I missed out on some good prices :lol_hitti

I would have bought those chisels in a heart beat. What is the width on the red handled one, if you don't mind my asking? That looks like a Stanley 720, I am putting together a set of those.

Picked up two Vidmar cabinets with a bad paint job. $200 each.

Same dimensions as my equipto cabinets.

Holy Cow!!! :beer::thumbup:

And a big You **** for that deal. They look to be in good shape. You can typically value those about $100 per drawer so you found a great deal at $200 each. I've seen beat up dirty, grimy ones go at local auction around here for three times that much.

Hit a small flea market and some yard sales this AM, did pretty well. Here's the flea market stuff, will do another post with the yard sale stuff. First is a Dewalt angle grinder loaded with accessories in a Makita metal box, paid $25. Came with that strange chain saw disc/ blade. The rest came from a second seller, some bearings, a Bonney adjustable wrench, some electrical items including a real large vintage toggle switch. Also a small caliper and a tiny old style adjustable made by King ****, as well as a pair of Starrett parallels. Also 4 chuck keys, an SK Wayne 1/4 dr extension, and a slick screwdriver with some odd tamper proof tips along with more std tips. Same seller had the vintage trailer light set complete with the instructions. The lights have steel housings, and came with the steel lic bracket. The 2 lights were wrapped in newspaper, dated Mar. 1973.

Found the 3M spray gun at a yard sale, brand new, has a regulator with a gauge as well, that's what's in the little white box next to the gun. Paid $15, got 2 cans of PB Blaster at the same sale for $1. ea. Then at another sale found the attachment to turn an angle grinder into a mini chop saw, and a Craftsman 7mm-8mm offset ratcheting box wrench that I forgot to take a pic of, $1. ea.

That's a wood carving attachment for the grinder. Be careful when using it, that's how I flayed off the tip of my finger.

Great scores guys! I can't begin to comment on all the scores, but you guys are getting it done!

I'm back from a week of hunting, so nothing to show for the purposes of this thread, but I did get a young forked horn buck (spent today processing it)...

Sockets are a mix of Snap On, SK, Blackhawk, and Mac
Wrenches are Blackhawk
Side Cutters are Channellock obviously
$25 for all, good deal but more than I wanted to pay lol
Ryan,

A great haul! Any chance you could post some more pictures of those Blackhawk wrenches over on the DBE thread? See my signature for the link.

Thanks in advance!

Great buys on all, especially on the Baldor extended arm buffer.

Like the free hand pump also. Haven't seen one with an extended arm above, so wondered if it was for securing it in place or if another reason for it.

Mike

Mike Thanks! I'm going to have to do some research on the hand pump. Like you, I haven't seen one this style before . I have no idea about the design or what parts are missing...

The rod that attaches to the leather washer extends all the way up through the extended cast arm to keep it lined up.

The poll vs pick end stood out to me too; next in line would be a turpentine axe.

EDIT: There's a similar complete pump on ebay with a lot of pictures http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tall-Antique-Cast-Iron-Well-Water-Hand-Pump-The-Oshkosh/121994935411

:lol_hitti

After six hours yesterday and four today of sorting, photographing, posting, storing, researching, prepping for eBay and posting on eBay, I'm remembering why I went into "retirement" the first time. :eyecrazy:

My $10 haul from the flea market. Bought the two DOEs with the C-Man Ratchet for $5. One Blackhawk by Armstrong & the other is a no name Made in USA. The Matco slotted screwdriver, C-Man & Easco 1/4" Spinners, and the NOS Stanley Slotted Stubby Drivers were all $1 each.

I've been mostly deal hunting new items from retail stores, this was my first trip to the flea market in quite some time.

You guys are doing great for this late in the sailing season.

It's pretty slim pickins here. Less g-sales but the same ********* sailers to compete with.

My only find was this Jet metal bandsaw for $45. Anyone have one? How well do they perform for general purpose light duty use?

Top:

Great buys on all, especially on the Baldor extended arm buffer.

Like the free hand pump also. Haven't seen one with an extended arm above, so wondered if it was for securing it in place or if another reason for it.

Mike

That style pump was used under a windmill. The top guide is for the pull rod coming down from the gear box on top of the tower.

Pick-ups from the past couple of weekends.

Armstrong 1/2 & 1/4 ratchets $5. Small world, come to find out the older gentlemen who sold me the 1/2" ratchet had known my father and actually helped his own contractor dad build my parents garage back in 1960 or so.

A final trip back to the auction today . A much larger crowd and steeper prices so I didn't stick around for the set of stake anvils I was wanting but managed to score the last two of about 40 heavy service clamps. A No. 4 And No. 6 . One Billings and one Armstrong along with a large Williams C clamp for $10 each . Also a lot of NOS drill bits and Panavise circuit board vise's for $15

Those Jet band saws are worthless. I would be willing to give you your $45 back and take it off your hands because I'm just that kind of guy!!:lol_hitti

Those 4x6 bandsaws are pretty good once fettled, I'd bet the Jet version requires a lot less fettling than the HF one. There's a 4 x 6 bandsaw mailing list on yahoo groups that has a whole heap of tips and mods for getting the most out of them.

A different kind of brag... Our church hosted a garage sale yesterday to benefit our missions program. We made approx $1500 and have left-overs for our annual spring sale at the church. The proceeds will be enough to purchase materials to construct around 22 flood cleaning buckets. They are a standard kit of cleaning materials in a 5 gallon bucket constructed by many different denominations across the USA. You can see the buckets we will make at http://www.umcor.org/UMCOR/Relief-Supplies/Relief-Supply-Kits/Cleaning

Many churches produce these and they get put into a national/international distribution system. Ours will end up at the United Methodist Church's Sager-Brown distribution center in Baldwin LA, at
. The buckets they have on hand are going to flood relief efforts in LA as well as to areas around the world that need them, and soon to Hurricane Matthew-affected areas. Our buckets will help replenish the warehouse.

To make this a legit post, we picked up a commercial-quality Kirby and a smaller Oreck vacuum.
