I say You ****! A new one looks to be $3000 so you did quite well. Also the Lincoln looks awesome! Makes me want another one!

Thank you :)
I decided to myself that I did good on the lift..... Now that the future owner of it is on his way with $1800.
Here's the Lincoln before and after if anyone else wanted to see it. Picked it up for $100 a few months ago

Here is a picture of an ad for a estate sale I went to today. I didn't buy anything, but I found the wood grain peg board interesting.

A mattock,

attachment.php

Campaign Button from the Reagan - Bush years,

Any markings on the cutter mattock?

Top, I just ran it though the wire wheel to see, and nothing other than a raised "0" on the underside of the digging blade. A little remnant red paint, but that's all. (seemed weird to wire wheel a pick since the "self clean" when in use...)

I may sharpen this up and stick a shorty handle on this on for camping and digging the privy pit... Being able to pop the handle off easily is a plus for packing...

I wanted to keep it but for a flip that quick I couldn't turn it down. Didn't even unload it off the trailer. Even used the picture of it installed in the shop I took it down from for my ad. Lol

No the welder is what I want! But glad you were able to flip the lift so quickly!

Kid was having the sale again this morning, this time I showed up without the wife. Was myself, and the same guy from last week in line, that's it. I guess people figured it would be picked out. Nothing left in the tool boxes, so I dug down on the floor. Certainly not the ripe pickings of last week, but still plenty to be found. The kid was getting a little more expensive this week, but still killer deals. This pile was $70 for everything. The 36" 1/2" drive extension and the 3/4" drive ratchet head are the only Snap On I found this time around. I could sell those alone for more than I paid for the lot, so still a killer deal. There was an awful lot Ridgid pipe wrenches on the floor.

At one time I had a full set of Keen Kutter and Warren Mattocks . Picking up one here one there. I'd clean and BLO them up . Picked up for peanuts but as a set they would sell for serious money. I have a few spares around but nowhere close to a set of either brand. There much harder to find any more.
You got the right idea for carrying in a ruck or what ever though.

Started organizing the Kennedy bottom roller (translation created a big mess LOL).
Here are some of the goodies I found.

Pic 1 from top left to right. More new mill bits. I will have to sort them out and keep some for my little Enco mill and sell the rest. 2 Machinist jacks, new 1/8" taps, another 123 machinist block, bunch of countersinks and several Starrett and Kenrok (?) 8" long pin punches that were in the red box below them.

The four round disks in the center of the pic anyone recognize them. Lettering on them includes L&W, Diamant, Germany and tool steel.

Edit figured out these are for a meat grinder

From bottom left are two large unbranded dividers, large drill bits, lathe bit holders and several bits below, many new. The 2 black pieces next to the bits appear to hold small taps to ensure they are tapped exactly 90 degrees from the surface. There are 3 ratchet tap holders, 2 Stanley Yankee 851 for small taps and a German one for slightly larger taps. There is some more punches and chisels by Dasco, Dayton and Mayhew.

In the second pic all the Vise-Grips are Petersen except for the drill press one. The sockets and other tools from top to bottom include Allen, Armstrong, Billings, Bonney, Craftsman, Fleet, Husky, Indestro flexible 1/4" spinner, P&C, Proto Challenger, Plomb, Proto, Snap-On including 4 universal sockets, Thorsen, Williams and Wright. The allen sockets are Proto, I already have that same set LOL.

I am finished cleaning the Kennedy tool box but have to install the drawers yet.

Travelled hither and yon today. Sold two Fisher Norris vises to the Fisher Norris museum, then visited meatsis at his shop and admired all his big iron, added to it as well as my 6"American Scale decided it wanted to stay. I'll miss it. Meat has some Mega vises. He's like Demoman light

Picked up a very nice 2.5" Reed then bought this little anvil and then the big purchase, a Boyer-Schultz 612 surface grinder for $275.

Found these cast grinder covers for $10 at a tag sale. Just cant figure what they go on.

Its been a while, but I saw this Old craftsman box on CL, well no picture,
guy was asking $20.00. Talked to him on the phone, he was 78 years old, retired post office mechanic.
told me he brought it new in 1959!! Was asking $20.00, but told me to to come up and make an offer, said it needs paint.
Asked him if he happened to have a little compressor, he said, "well now that you mention it"
he had a little one under his bench, he would drag out. asked him how much he thought for that, he said, "about $30.00"
anyways, I looked at both of them, wanted them both, told him, I had $40.00 on me, would that be OK for both, he said that would be fine.
Decent picture of the compressor, ****** picture of the box, but you can tell.
Thought I did pretty well for $40.00.

Your right, those are meat grinder plates. Hard to tell from pics if size is 22 or the larger 32 sizes. Surprised that the grinder knives weren't found with them.

Good find and all that you did get!!!

And finally, a Goodell Pratt miter box. Both this box and the MF came with appropriate saws by E. C. Atkins.

Blue

Blue:

You continue to amaze me in getting vintage items in like new condition in original boxes.

My favorite is the Goodell-Pratt miter box find with the E.C. Atkins miter saws.

Saw this nice Craftman vise the first day off the sale marked $32 which was more then i wanted to pay so i was going to get it on the half off day instead. I was working that morning and i knew it was going to be taken by the afternoon so i had my mom pick it up for $16 dollars. I did some research and it looks like it is from the 80's and made either in Japan or the usa. It is in great shape and i will use it as my regular vise till i find something better!

Btw how do you guys do with bag sales the last day? I am told by most they never know until the last hour if they will do one but if they do it is a great deal to pick up all the overpriced tools that didn't sell before! But you basically have to be there at the right time or someone else will beat you too the tool stash before you get there.

Honestly, I've never been to one in over 30 years. In my area. First hour second day and there is NOTHING left. Granted ,I may be a big part of why that is....lol . But if not me then one of the other dozen or so collectors I keep running into

Yeah I just looked up images of the knives and never saw those. These are 3 1/4 so #22 size apparently.

I need to clean these they have a bit of corrosion any suggestions?

Bluebolt:

Last year, I bought a number of the grinder plates/knives from estate of a butcher and cleaned the rust/grime off with wire wheel.

The size #32 plates/knives sold out over time, so just have size #22 left with three plates and a number of knives left in inventory.

Pic 1 is a group shot of all of them, when first got them and before clean up.

Rest of pics are group after cleaning, with pic 2 & 3 the #32 group, while pic 4 & 5 the #22 group (i.e. showing both sides of each).

Yeah there is usually not much left but scraps but if you dig deep you can definitely pull over $10 in tools. You can get a lot especially if the tools were way overpriced even after 50%off.

Last weekI went to the final clear out sale of a factory that closed and scored this great wood rack for storing parallel bars. Best of all it was free, it was in their junk pile.

The cool thing is I scored close to a full set of parallel bars at their 1st sale 8 months earlier. It was missing 6 of the 44 bars in the set but it was cheap.

It's a perfect match!

Don't you just love it when this stuff happens!

Braved the rain and went out today browsing last day estate sales looking for deals. Bought a 50lb container of R12 that weighs out at 28.9lb's for $3. I have absolutely no use whatsoever for R12, but at $3, I could not resist. I really do enjoy looking through peoples scores here. Thumbs up to Bluebolt for the score of the Kennedy box and other stuff.

My sister was out to a yard sale and texted me that they had a snap on handle for 3.00 did I want it. I told her any snap on tool was worth 3.00. This is what she brought to me
1/2 drive 18inch breaker bar. A little surface rust but in good shape over all

First pic. paid 1.00. A few saws, a Lectrolite wrench, a P&C tire iron?, a made in Austria file in a Craftsman plastic sleeve, a wood file holder.
IMG_8367.jpg
Second pic. paid $10.00. A Milwaukee circular saw from 1952 with blades, parts documentation, a metal carry box and a few other items.....Plugged in the saw before purchasing and it worked fine. The run out on the blade seems unusually long, the safety guard sticks in the open position.....maybe needs a few drops of oil. Also included: a disston product info. book, two sockets, some Rockwell jigsaw blades and a big cylindrical piece of brass.

What are those things now, like $100, $3 is a nice price, delivered even.

You guys are finding some great stuff this winter ! Keep at it.

Fortunately, there were no good sales this weekend. I say fortunately because 1) I'm broke, and 2) I had plans to go out to a large (4 buildings full) model train show on Saturday. So, no used tools for me this weekend.

(I'm going to break the no new tools rule)
While at the show, the vender who usually sells modeling tools was a no-show (word is that he hasn't been doing well lately). So I found another vender who had some tools. One of the things that I always look for are small magnetic parts trays. I found some small 3" round and rectangular parts trays for $3ea and picked up 3 of each, along with a few other things.

I'm posting them here because with all the old tools that get cleaned up and repaired around here, I thought I'd remind everyone that they need a way to keep all the small parts in one place during disassembly.

I have multiples of various size magnetic parts trays that I keep on a steel I-beam over my benches and out in my garage to have handy when pulling things apart. With so many half finished projects laying around, I never seem to have enough.
